JR - I believe they could, and I have suggested on a number of occasions that this will not be lost on Shell. To take your example to the next level, Shell could pay €125m and basically get PVR for free. This would equate to 3 times current SP value, and while I know it would leave most people on this board seriously out of pocket (me included), it would not be unattractive to our most recent investors who now control these decisions.
Tax credits: (Caveat - Not sure if this is possible or not) Providence are supposed to have spent €500m on exploration over the years. If Shell were to acquire Providence, would they be able to avail of this cost on their tax bill? If they can, with an effective tax rate of 25%, they could buy Providence for €250m and the net cost to them would be €125m. How's that for a discount?
The fact that SP has held up is positive - there might be more to this rally than today's event.
i think it is overall good news because cairn have named a date to drill. which i believe they hadn't before. but then i think providence needs to put up the funds for their percentage of the drilling. which i think is bad news.. unless they can farmout..
Last two weeks as the share goes up over 10% a day these lads slate the rise as pathetic. It goes down 10% this morning and its a 'massive drop'. I wonder who is paying them to post. Or is it that they are selling short?
Nice to see rise in SP underpinned by some volume. Keeping fingers crossed for tomorrow - I for one could do with this not being a false dawn!
by the way current rally starts just few days after Pageant loaded more of PVR,,,, coinciding?
Jimmys favorite color is red, but when he see green for second week, he confused
