Re: given up Yes, I sold most of mine a while ago and I think this is sensible. I would agree that dealmaking at $90 per barrel now look foolish but most oil/gas/mining company CEOs seem to like taking risks with their companies for reasons that escape me - I think it must be in their DNA. However one silver lining from the crash in oil prices is that it shows which companies are being run in a conservative and sensible manner. The answer is hardly any in the small oil company sector but you may want to have a look at Amerisur Resources as they seem to be a very careful not to overstretch themselves and produce oil very cheaply. I think you are more likely to get your money back with them than by leaving it with IGAS.

LEAF thirty fifty twenty 08 Sep 2015

CASH will be 'significantly in excess' of 38p Crystal Amber's trading update today was interesting reading.they confirm: less than 2 year timetable (by Mar 17) to convert LEAF assets to CASH,Invenergy transaction valuing each GW at > USD 2bn.Thus Invenergy might be c.14bn, LEAF (at 1%) might be 140m USD less discount.Stake original bgt for 40m USD.They also confirm Leigh will have significant value. There is no mention of the significant CASH balances which are now c.9p a share. They confirm that NAV at 54p is understated, and that CASH returns will be 'significantly in excess' of share price 38p.good progress on realisation discussions so although it might be Mar 17 before ALL assets are disposed of, I think it likely there will be transactional news prior to then.So what price???Well true NAV must surely be > 60p'significant' must surely be 50% above 38p - again getting to 57p,and these valuation reconcile to public available information(assuming LEAF own 1% of Invenergy (seems now it is a convertible instrument) )Paying 42p now to get 60p in 18months (MAX) equates to c.28% p.a.At 48p that reduces to c.18% p.a.So would seem worth closer to 48p now with 1p per month growth as the discount unwinds.MUST emphasise that analysis based on convertible being 1% which roughly ties into the valuations CRA imply, however the potential returns have less 'safety margin' as the price rises if I am slightly out on this assumption.Ironically a bit surprised at the volume this morning. No surprise to see the price marked up based on the CRA trading update, but why would there be significant selling at these levels. Hopefully all well - CRA seem to have good track record. All IMHO, DYOR + BoLLEAF is in my top5 hldgs

Re: More consolidation Me too - Catlin and now Amlin. Both solid dividend payers. Nice capital gains but finding an equivalent home for the proceeds isn't easy.

Re: takeover I think the non life insurers are now sunk as an investment for the future. I'm searching pastures new for value, while holding onto my remaining BEZ, LRE and NVA........

Re: Mining I agree, though did the market know the announcement was coming today? One of my beefs about almost all companies is that they don't announce the schedule for IMS or trading statements.Yes - nor further bad news in the last 6 weeks, so the market interprets this as good, which is pleasing to see.

PEG gretel 08 Sep 2015

Broker to increase forecasts? WH Ireland this morning have an 18p price target and note that their forecasts could be raised..."Petards*# (PEG) - Buy – Interims – solid results; forecasts unchangedMarket Cap £4m Price 12p Target 18pInterims demonstrated a very creditable performance. H1 2015A revenue decreased by 15.3%, reflecting the mix of work undertaken in the period. However, the gross margin moved 900bps higher to 36.4%. PBT of £0.4m showed an increase of 30.4%, with diluted EPS moving 22.6% higher to 0.8p. The Group ended the period with a net cash position of £0.4m, an inflow of £0.5m since the beginning of the year. Solid outlook for the remainder of the year. The order book at £19m is marginally lower than the previously reported £20m position in March but shows good order coverage for H2 and beyond. Management note that order intake across the Group has been slower than anticipated in part, but with a good number of opportunities in the current pipeline. Looking further out, last week’s formal opening of the new Hitachi rail vehicle manufacturing facility in Newton Aycliffe is clearly positive. At this stage, we make no changes to our estimates but should current trends continue, see scope for these to be raised in due course. Our valuation is undemanding. Based on our forecasts, the shares currently trade on a FY 2015E fully diluted PER of 7.6x and EV/EBITDA of 3.5x. Given the level of secured work, in addition to the pipeline of opportunities ahead, we believe that these multiples significantly undervalue the business. We maintain our Buy recommendation and 18p share price target, a 20% discount to the wider Support Services sector."

Re: Mining It could be that the market was being cautious ahead of this morning's announcement which I read as being steady. The price has responded positively today.
