Re: Introduction I've been topping up OIG ever bought it for my new SIPP in the beginning of the year. I do follow John Baron loosely on selecting investment trusts (he had OIG in his portfolio) but he has too many I believe, too much finely spread risk. I noticed that OIG takes a big step up every few months without any reference to any index (as they dont follow any) so I filled up more, also in my ISA. "Overweight" but that is my fafourite method. OIG have given themselves a mandate to take an activist approach, at least an active role, OIG behaves more like a true hedge fund than an constrained investment trust and I like it! THey also use all financial instruments whenver needed, not just long postions. And today the buy/sell prices moved up again another 4-5% after the discount getting bigger and bigger, and who knows, it may go up a bit more before it stabilises on its next level. Who needs private equity funds when there is OIG?
Alixpartners Restructuring and insolvency in UK (England & Wales)Status: Law stated as at 01-Jul-2015 Jurisdiction: United KingdomAdministration Objective. The administration procedure is a way of facilitating a rescue of a company or the BETTER realisation of its assets. The main aim of administration is to rescue the company as a going concern. How the solution of selling all the assets for lets say $200m (number that appeared in the Sunday Times) is a better realisation than a hair cut and keep the company as a going concern? How can that be justified?
..... Yes no income growth but with a 6.6% yield most folk will be happy. I like the idea of buying Canadian and increasingly (28% of fund) US assets at a healthy discount.
Sterling Trust in Administration Perhaps someone with a Corporate Law background could clarify just what this latest event means for the possible future of Rurelec, if of course we still have one.To my mind, since the disgraceful Bolivian settlement, ST like the rest of shareholders witnessed the progressive destruction of their investment. They were never likely to be able to effect financial control of R despite the scale of their shareholding, so any hope of a capital restructure involving ST was never realistic. It looks more likely that either Rurelec's assets or its shares will be sold at a further discount (as part of any takeover) although it may be that ST's Administrators will be quicker to bite the bullet and accept the material losses on their shareholding (than were ST themselves).Assuming of course there is an interested party out there to effect such purchase(s); and also assuming our working capital facilities hold out long enough etc.So if there are any interested parties, they won't be in any rush as the eventual price they pay is only going down it seems.B
Whats with the continued slide? Seems a bit disproportionate!? Or have I missed something?
Unusually high volumes.... Somebody knows where that APAC sale is i would imagine

Re: o/t Unfortunately, the UK Government can't change the law because it's EU Law. It was even stated in the House today, just caught a few minutes on the News, that for our UK Government to give Government State Aid, it has to go cap in hand to get the approval of the unelected bureaucrats in Brussels. But why didn't the UK Government throw a steel contract for the thousands of tons of steel required for HS2 rail lines to Tata which could have been a possible lifeline. But no, Osborne has invited the Chines to bid for HS2 rail. So the Chinese are dumping steel, but they can only dump it if there's a buyer. Why has the UK got some of the highest energy costs globally? One factor are the subsidies that have been paid out for the countless wind turbines scattered across the country, a Labour/Liberal/Conservative legacy for the next few generations. It's ironic that the 28 turbines built just offshore from Redcar have contributed to the Redcar Steel demise. Granted the Conservative government are ceasing onshore subsidies, but no mention of offshore subsidies and the turbines yet to be built on the Dogger Bank, Up to 2000, Planning is in for the first 400. Subsidies to be paid to the Crown Estate. Wonder if Charles the 'environmentalist organic farmer' has been full y briefed.Apologies for the rant, but the unelected EU bureaucrats really get my goat. Time for a G&T. A large one.YB
