Re: Brokers Positive I can't understand why this is languishing at such a discount. I would understand it if the entire market had been tanking and there was a realistic prospect of making 25% gains just by buying the index, but the market doesn't offer fantastic prospective returns, so a 10% gain with a bond-level risk seems crazy to me.

HAYT thirty fifty twenty 19 Nov 2015

placing at NIL discounts = good sign at 90p a placing was always on the cards after the PH acquisition,it is quite rare to see a placing be above the recent share price trading of the past few weeks.it does confirm that the fall from the recent highs was not a reaction to 'disappointing results',but more likely some leakage of a placing price at 90p so why hold in the market at 100p.thus ironically, its puts the recent results in a better light and gives more confidence in mgt very positive forward looking views.I also think it confirms what a great deal the PH acquisition was..to tie into the vendors reporting timetable they had to act quickly...thus it was some quick bank finance set up, with the placing to come in time...1 - to me this means that vendor was a 'forced seller' thus good price achieved2 - HAYT very highly regarded by banks for them to provide such a level of finance at a cheap rateso regardless of what the RNS say these to me confirm that this is a growth business on a modest rating....All IMHO, DYOR + BoLHAYT is in my portfolio

What is with these 100 share sells and buys? is this a way to manipulate share price?

LMS thirty fifty twenty 19 Nov 2015

Re: Another IC / ST update hi r21442I know that ST have his critics but I do think he has made some good points in this article...namely that there are marginal factors which make LMS more attractive now:1 - the last update a few months ago said completion on 2 sales was expected shortly2 - The FX rate has gone slightly in out favour - its only small but 1 or 2p in the right direction tips the risk reward significantly3 - the strategy is clearly to return money to shareholders and after the failed attempt this is likely to be accelerated.although ST doesn't say so the bit that I like is that 'time is our favour',the downside remains the same (i.e. something unexpected but surely an exit price is still > 70p so at this price risking only 2p of capital in worst downside (10% probability),but the upside is likely within a few weeks so although the upside has not changed from a couple of months ago - our capital only has to be tied up for a few weeks not 2-3 months...one thing he didn't mention (frequently seems to ignore some downsides!) is that the aborted revised strategy will have cost 1-2m in fees. as above it is not material but given the 'limited upside' such small amounts are relevant IMHO. So I see it that likely to get 30p through a buy back within 6 weeks, leaving 65p of NAV which I put on a 15-20% discount i.e. 52p to 55p.I've been a holder and increased my weighting recentlyAll IMHO, DYOR + BoLLMS is in my portfolio

Re: Edison Research In case you didnt read it - an extractGLI’s shares yield 10%, a premium over the listed alternative finance loan funds, which may reflect concerns over the sustainability of its dividend. If management'splans to cover the dividend are realised, these concerns could dissipate and itsdividend yield move towards that of the loan funds. In addition, there is the prospectof capital gains from its platform investments to boost investor returns.

TERN Bazil_Brush 19 Nov 2015

Drop of share price this article I've copied from the news tab, II front page, which partially explains why the sustained drop in sp. ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- -(TERN) has a number of technology sector investments, but the core one is Cryptosoft, which has an encryption product that uses the Java standard and can work with any hardware and systems. The Cryptosoft platform uses installed technology - the sender of the data and the receiver can be using different technology. The data itself is secured, rather than the hardware that transmits it, so it remains secure at every stage. The focus is the Internet of Things and machine-to-machine devices. The Tern share price has been particularly volatile and Hargreave Hale (HHV) took advantage of a sharp rise in order to reduce its stake during the summer. ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- -----Now recouped all my Silvermere Energy losses through buying on dip and selling at highs. Tern still a player in my book but you need to keep an eye on it.B_B

Investors Chronicle Simon ThompsonAim-traded GLI Finance (GLIF: 45.25p), a speciality finance company that invests in peer-to-peer and small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) lending platforms in the UK, Europe and the US, has issued a trading update ahead of a revaluation of its investments in mid-December.So although GLI Finance's shares have drifted back this year, I still believe the odds favour a positive outcome. Trading 12 per cent below net asset value of 51.5p, I remain a buyer at 45.25p as the upside potential of the portfolio of P2P investments is being attributed no value whatsoever in the current share price. That's very harsh.Obviously even harsher today.

Re: What The.. A good question.Reuters has this to offer:Virgin Money Holdings UK Plc and Aldermore Group Plc may require more capital if British regulators impose tougher rules to curb the buy-to-let housing market, Bank of America Corp. said. The shares slumped.Billionaire Richard Branson’s Virgin Money would be hardest hit if the Bank of England introduces tougher capital requirements on lending to landlords, analysts led by Michael Helsby wrote in a note to clients on Thursday. They cut the lender’s rating to neutral from buy, while downgrading Aldermore to under-perform from buy.Virgin and Aldermore are among a group of small British lenders seeking to challenge the dominance of the nation’s largest banks, which together control as much as 80 percent of the market. While increasing demand and surging prices in the British housing market are helping spur their expansion, a tighter focus from regulators seeking to avert a bubble in property prices could undermine earnings growth.“Some sort of underwriting controls is inevitable,” the analysts wrote. “With the BOE’s new focus on buy-to-let and consumer credit, we are increasingly worried about the ability of Virgin Money to deliver.”The BOE has signaled that it’s concerned about the rate of growth in demand for buy-to-let mortgages, which have made up most of the expansion in mortgage lending since 2008 as banks compete for borrowers, often by requiring that only the interest is paid each month. BOE Governor Mark Carney said on Nov. 5 that the central bank is watching the developments of the buy-to-let housing market “closely.”Virgin Money slumped 6.3 percent to 350.5 pence at 12:18 p.m. in London, the biggest intraday drop since July, while Aldermore fell 6.8 percent to 258.20 pence. Both have gained more than 20 percent this year.
