shares mag buy Courtesy of alliance trustHealthy outlook for EvgenBiotech is looking to use vegetable compound to treat cancerMark DunneAIM newcomer Evgen Pharma (EVG:AIM) could reward patient investors prepared to look ahead to a potentially transformative milestone 12 months in the future. The company plans to extract the health properties of broccoli, cabbage and other green leaf vegetables in the ‘cruciferous’ family. Drugs to fight cancer and repair the damage caused by subarachnoid haemorrhage, a type of stroke, are set to enter phase II clinical trials. An update on the progress of these trials is expected in late 2016. Management are confident because academic trials have produced encouraging data on the properties of the ‘sulfuraphane’ compound found within cruciferous veg. Because of its unstable nature this compound has historically been difficult for drugs companies to use. Evgen believes its Sulforadex technology fixes the problem, thus unlocking the commercial benefits provided by the compound. If it is right then success could translate into a licensing deal with significant milestone payments and eventually royalties if the drugs successfully pass phase III trials. If it is wrong the share price will likely crash. There is also the possibility that successful phase II trials could prompt a takeover bid from a larger player looking to own the Sulforadex technology and generate a pipeline of similar treatments. The phase II trials will run for 18 months from March 2016 and Evgen has enough cash to last until the summer of 2018, by which time a deal should be signed unless the treatments do not work. The Liverpool-based company raised £7 million at 37p per share from its initial public offering on 21 October – more than the £6.3 million it had initially planned to raise. The proceeds are funding the clinical trials as well as pre-clinical studies for a multiple sclerosis treatment. Northland Capital puts the firm’s fair value at a minimum of £60 million against a current market cap of £19.7 million. Evgen was established in 2007 by chief executive Stephen Franklin, who has two decades worth of experience on the commercial side of the life sciences industry. He helped float Provexis (PXS:AIM) on AIM in 2005. Shares says: BUY "At 27p this is a buy and hold share. Drug trial success could lead to lucrative partnership agreements or a takeover offer but investors need to understand the risks."

Re: Sell Off I am trying to find out what percentage of Fairpoint's legal work might be related to road accidents, any ideas? There isn't much indication of this on Simpson Millar and it is simply listed as one of a number of areas of legal work. My instinct so far is that the 11% fall might be overdone, especially when this share was only trading on a P/E of around 10 anyway with good growth prospects.

Re: Should we be getting out? Grech (S&G CEO) gave a cautious address at the AGM a few days ago, but I believe said he still expected to make 2016 forecasts. Reading between the lines (on top of what he said) it has been more difficult than S&G thought to convert QPP people's and systems' standards to S&G's. The difficulties of integrating two or more different large businesses is often under-rated by the acquiring company and can sometimes take a lot longer than anticipated. This is at least partly what seems to have happened here, but I didn't read it as being a disaster by any means. Maybe Grech was understating the position - we simply can't judge. It would be odd to think he wouldn't keep something up his sleeve to deliver later in the year if he needs to because he must realise his job and career are on the line. He must be under considerable pressure and I think made a mistake responding to the accusations of the hostile bits of the press that basically accused him of fiddling the books. He should have kept his silence, because E&Y have already reported on the accounting errors and accepted appointment as auditors (which they wouldn't have done if they had significant doubts about the integrity of either the people or the systems). As usual, any indifferent news (and the market had two bits to present as a lot more than they were) gave the shorters the sort of opportunity they love, as destroyers of other people's wealth for their own greedy gain, using shares borrowed from investors without their knowledge or consent that is allowed by a system that is far more corrupt than anything these leeches claim to be targeting, as the means to do so. S&G's present market cap is now a lot too low - unless of course there is fraud on a huge scale, right under the noses of a Big 4 firm which has already looked hard to see if there's any there and hasn't found any. My guess is that the SP will recover and I have put my money where my mouth is. Do the opposite to me and you've got a chance!!S&G doesn't affect QPP now, as far as I can tell, Doggedly. Hope you'll have a great knees-up at Christmas as a result. GL

Re: Slater and Gordon "Add in QPP can kiss goodbye to the Escrow money now".Can you justify that comment please, Owen? To put it another way: "Why"?If you don't respond with something vaguely cerebral, we'll take that as a:"I really don't know why I made such a silly comment and I do apologise - I'll just go and fetch Nurse"Are you saying QPP should have warranted the contents of George Osborne's Autumn Statement?

Re: Quiet Isn't that the point? You think they will go up; I don't. This forum is for us to exchange those views. For the little guy in the leather jacket and boots to suggest your view is legitimate because you're bullish and own share and mine is not and therefore don't hold is indeed intolerant on a share discussion board. And you can't escape the fact that my view is - so far - more correct than your own, which should count for something.
