Brexit Wars 3 jackdawsson: I must disagree that the BBC are any longer that left-wing. Maybe they were to a significant degree in former times, that I’d concede, but not the current crop I wonder if it has anything to do with soaring salaries within the BBC?
Brexit Wars 3 Sir_Buns-Up_Knealing: nothing changes with regard to the rules governing and privileges of British citizens until at least the end of the year… Amazing! It is a trait. Like that guy who stood in the non-EU citizen queue in Amsterdam and tweeted he’d been wait 55 minutes already and this wasn’t the Brexit he voted for, when clearly it was. What made it extra funny was if he’d just gone down the EU, EEA lane he’d have been through in minutes.
Brexit Wars 3 john.a.reeves: Good idea … just did. IMF World Economic outlook, January 2020 Expected growth EURO Area 2020 1.3% (downward revision of 0.1 % ) 2021 1.4% UK 2020 1.4% 2021 1.5% JAR As @HuwJarse says, he isn’t intereted in projections as we all know they’re wrong. I’ve provided the latest world bank and the latest IMF ACTUAL figures (IMF still subject to revision) and both say it is @HuwJarse’s contention that the UK has been outgrowing the EU that is wrong.
Brexit Wars 3 JW - agree J_Westlock: Ofcom already regulates BBC content. But doesn’t monitor and report on bias - or can’t you read? JAR
Brexit Wars 3 john.a.reeves: As I said earlier: As OFCOM is the organisation responsible for the media (and is an independent body), it should be tasked with monitoring the output of the BBC and reporting quarterly on the content which would show any ACTUAL bias (either way!). This could in no way be projected as interfering with the independence of the BBC as they would continue be free to commission and broadcast anything it wants. Ofcom already regulates BBC content.
First on the board BRD… XXXX Placing on 18th February @ 85p must of been a consolidation here . Castaway bought in after posting he had been watching. Price: 88.00 Strong Buy RE: Same S#*t, different day.Tue 21:55 IMO this is a good placing - small discount with Teichman and Directors buying giving the company the ability to really boost production with great mining backers who hold nearly 30% - no brainer - I have been watching BRD for a couple of years and now I’m in.
Brexit Wars 3 Sir_Buns-Up_Knealing: Good idea. Going anywhere nice? Yes. I aim to retire to Spain in 5 years. I speak the lingo. I’ll try Cadiz - beautiful area and fewer Brits. Brexit has (I suspect) ruined the healthcare rights but we’ll see what “deal†if any gets done. If the deal is bad then I will reluctantly apply for Spanish citizenship.
Brexit Wars 3 JD - good afternoon jackdawsson: I must disagree that the BBC are any longer that left-wing. Maybe they were to a significant degree in former times, that I’d concede, but not the current crop. Not by a long stretch & not for years now, of which there are ample recent examples. Obviously, I hold a different opinion and in a wider context people disagree whether there is bias left or right - or indeed if any exists at all. As I said earlier: As OFCOM is the organisation responsible for the media (and is an independent body), it should be tasked with monitoring the output of the BBC and reporting quarterly on the content which would show any ACTUAL bias (either way!). This could in no way be projected as interfering with the independence of the BBC as they would continue be free to commission and broadcast anything it wants. In this way the debate would be based on current facts - not opinions (perhaps historic and out of date). Why is that not better? Best wishes JAR
LLOYDS is going to FLY trader_jack: I will be looking at STS reports and factsheets over the weekend to see if they fit “my crirteria.†Until now I have only considered well and long established IT’s. STS only started in 2005 as far as I can see ther are days where it appears to have not been traded. I used to work out the total return on these things with a s/sheet (I’m referring to reinvested dividends + capital appreciation just to be clear) as I didn’t trust the brokers who offer such comparison tools. Then a few months back Pref mentioned using the compare tool with HL (which is simple and easy to use if you know the trick to get it to work with funds first) but I also use AJ Bell’s which gives you a 10yr+ view too. I prefer the HL tool as the colours it distinguishes the different stocks/funds compared make it easier to see. If you are more interested in total return than yield (as you indicated for your grandchildren’s pots) then these are useful to see performance over varying periods of time… which is what I think you are doing. (PS. The tables I posted previously look at total return over 1,3 and 5 yrs (only) so they are ordered by whichever is best over those 3 points.() Diff between ATST and STS isn’t great in terms of total return but MNKS and SMT have performed better. image.png573x525 53.1 KB
Brexit Wars 3 Pete, I recently had to get my passport renewed and was determined to get the burgundy one. So I’m now on a passport valid until 2029 by which time I’m sure the UK (or what’s left of it) will wish they were back in the EU.
Brexit Wars 3 Job opportunity for Eadwig down at his local Passport factory? New 11 year contract for blue paspsorts: Made in Poland By a French company Causing 200 job losses at De La Rue Colour of passport has always been a UK choice Tories chose burgundy And is now a badge of national stupidity. So no better person to model it than the Smirky Thick Psycopath Patel. (Courtesy of THE Paul May on twitter). IMHO, SBK
LLOYDS is going to FLY PrefInvestor1: Hi @J_Westlock, I’m sorry to read that you are in an underwater position on LLOY, I hope it is not a large one. However bad it cannot compare with regardless with his 500,000+ shares at an average of over 60 - that’s just scary, but it is the course that he has deliberately chosen. It was the portion I bought 3 years back that was the mistake. Now, I’ll just hang on and wait for it to be above 60… if it ever gets there… and then I’ll be shot of this. Certainly, not putting in any more to average down for all the reasons you said. Yes, I’m waiting for the pref XD dates too… only a few weeks to go.
Rang ( W ) never in ISA ( might be idea ) June 2013 purchased with them transferd in 1500 July 2015. multiplied by 1.91 Palinghurst take over. .
Brexit Wars 3 At least the truth about matter can still be found on the BBC website, such as the one below about job losses. Right now the Welsh are up in arms about the Government’s lack of interest in the terrible floods they are enduring, compounded by a C4 interview with David Davies the arrogant and cretinous Tory MP for Monmouth who said it was all the responsibility of the Welsh Government not that of the UK one. So much for the solidarity of the union spouted by Liar Johnson. BBC News Honda axe impact for 12 Welsh firms The decision to close Honda's UK factory will have strategic impact on Welsh suppliers, the industry warns. IMHO, SBK
Brexit Wars 3 jackdawsson: So I welcome keeping the licence fee for those who can afford to pay, ie. the vast majority. Though I watch relatively little TV, it’s most BBC News, BBC 2, BBC4 & the rest is mostly movies or documentaries. For eg. Film 4 is also highly regarded by me. But basically I watch about 7 or 8 channels. The rest hardly at all. Almost half of that is BBC because I still have reasonable faith in their overall objectivity, despite some obvious below-par lapses in recent years. - Regards. I agree, all my life when something serious is happening the Beeb has been the first port of call. Alarmingly since Liar Johnson victory it has clearly been cowed by the Government’s threats and being ignored as per Cumming’s instructions. This is very dangerous. IMHO, SBK
