Brexit Wars 3 Uncle_Doug: Yes. I aim to retire to Spain in 5 years. I speak the lingo. I’ll try Cadiz - beautiful area and fewer Brits. Brexit has (I suspect) ruined the healthcare rights but we’ll see what “deal” if any gets done. If the deal is bad then I will reluctantly apply for Spanish citizenship. Hi Hope that goes well for you, fair bit of time to go before the move for you so hopefully will be reasonable clarity by then. Spain certainly a popular choice. I read this piece from the New York Times on Cadiz, fairly interesting nytimes.com Cádiz, an Underrated Corner of Spain In the province of Cádiz, the 52 Places Traveler finds ancient history, heart-wrenching music and some of the best meals of his trip. LLOYDS is going to FLY PrefInvestor1: I wonder whats going to happen with the markets this week ?. Lots of new virus cases in South Korea I’m reading today, guessing that wont be good for Asian markets or indeed markets in general… First restrictions placed in Europe also, in Italy. It will spread pretty quickly now its out, I think.

LLOYDS is going to FLY PrefInvestor1: Why take the risk ? I’m afraid that using Win 10 or keeping up to date with MS updates does not remove that risk in any way so I’m taking no undue risk. The op system itself is at risk if you download (by accident or not) something malicious. In fact, the more recent releases of Windows 10 have proven to have more vulnerabilities that they’ve had to issue fixes for… so you have a balance between new versions having issues and vulnerabilities because they are new versus tried and tested, stable versions. Either way, they can still be exposed if you do something stupid. I use a firewall and also separately use Norton 360, don’t use the cloud for anything (which to me is a good way to expose your data to anyone), always have a VPN switched on so comms are encrypted and my wife is off on the PC if I’m not using it (not that one helps much).

If it came to the worst then it would only hasten my move to a Linux distro. How good is your firewall ?. And don’t just rely on your router or the windows firewall. I would see the worst case scenario being that a malicious actor uses an operating system vulnerability to install a keylogger on your PC without your knowledge. That this operates on your PC for some eluding your virus checkers while sending data back “home” (again a firewall issue). You continue trading thinking everything is fine and the keylogger captures your brokers login credentials. The malicious actor then uses these to access your bank account details held on your brokers accounts and then starts to attempt withdrawing money… You will likely know nothing until your bank balance starts falling… Why take the risk ? Hi @J_Westlock, Well upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 would have been free. Maybe you don’t like Windows 10 though, many people. don’t. But by not upgrading your PC it will become increasingly vulnerable to any new security issues, for which there will be no Microsoft patches. Same goes for Office 2010 when that goes out of support, in October 2020 I think. Your choice obviously, I wouldn’t do it. Well unsurprisingly US Futures have taken a 1-1.5% dive with the new virus numbers and the FTSE and STOXX 50 are down about the same. Suspect the Far East will be at least as bad when they open later. Could be a rough day tomorrow. ATB Pref

LLOYDS is going to FLY swamp_rat: 2016 Home and Office version is £25. It works perfectly for me. Has done for years, however I appreciate I am a non-professional light user. I’m still using MS Word and Excel 2010 at home… I‘ve used later and recent at versions at different workplaces but never missed any functionality or noticed any notable difference/fixes other than cosmetic things like menu functions/ribbons being moved around. I’m already using LibreOffice which really is just as good as Word and Excel and can read/edit interchangeably. I have no intention of upgrading to Win 10 and will remain on Win 7 until apps stop working over coming years. When that happens I will install a free Linux distro (maybe Mint) and carry on using same free LibreOffice. It’s not that I’m trying to save a few quid… I just don’t see the point in paying.

Hi @swamp_cat, Yes you can buy 2016 for about £20-£25 I think, but the figure I quoted was the list price for Office 2019 Home And Student which is £120. And that’s very expensive I think, and I’m sure you can get it cheaper by shopping around.
