Update Very, very quiet.

Update Very quiet, indeed.

Hugh_Betcha 06 Aug 2019

Update " Challenging Conditions" and “The Company continues to focus on working capital management” doesn’t sound great, does it? I think biscuit barrel and chums will be waiting along time before we will see the shares at the level at which I was told it was obvious they were going up and the only thing stopping me seeing this was the case was my own stupidity. They’re strangely quiet these days.

Check share price, laugh and I don’t pretend to be able to predict is a share price will go up or down short term from a particular level. What I did feel fairly sure about when Biscuit Barrel (and others, to be fair) were yelling about what an obvious buy this share was at 140p and how only an idiot like me would disagree was that (a) he had and has no clue what he is talking about and is more likely to be wrong than right (b) WGB looked overvalued and © the management were and are unimpressive. As the shares subsequently dropped 60% I think that view has proved to be correct. I remain of the view that this is not a high quality investment and that the management team is not one I would back. Meanwhile, Biscuit Barrel has run away, lacking the cojones to admit he got it wrong.

Check share price, laugh and Hi Hugh, I’ve not read your view from last year, but with the share price now at @ 66p & a 2.55p divi due in Aug, what is your view now? thanks.

Hugh_Betcha 11 Apr 2019

Check share price, laugh and One year ago biscuit barrel took me to task for expressing negative views about this share. Apparently my views were all theoretic nonsense, not wedded to actual reality of a small cap stock which was so obviously undervalued that only an idiot like me could be capable of not seeing this as a plain fact. The shares then were around 140p and now 56p. I’ve looked in vain for biscuit barrel’s post in which he concedes that maybe I was right after all and maybe not quite as ‘theoretic’ as he claimed and that perhaps his ceaseless bullishness was misplaced. He’s gone very quiet on the subject, in fact. I wonder why?

WGB results out Banked a reasonable profit on these; invested the proceeds in a top up of RQIH…

WGB results out The shares have held up remarkably well given the terrible results (even one of our house bulls has admitted they stink). Which rather goes to show the market is fairly efficient at anticipating and pricing in events.

WGB results out Forgot to say that cash flow looks just about OK. I’m not sure if the descriptions on it are presented correctly, there may be a bracket in the wrong place. Not sure what the new purchases of intangibles are, should there be any at a time like this? More spending on plant too…but just about OK. On the business development side, the company needs to kick into a higher gear. It feels like the company has too much business in mature markets, needs more balance.

WGB results out Results out today, so we now know where we are. Stockopedia suggests that analysts are looking for £6.6m PBT and EPS 10.6p for the full year. I don’t entirely understand these; they don’t seem to tie together. I would have thought that £6.6m = about 9.2p EPS. So, the half year results: Revenue £54.7m v £55.5m; doesn’t mean that much. Sales are generally down quite heavily in the UK and Europe. PBT as I see it about £3.9m £6m. Poor, but reasonable versus analyst forecasts. EPS 4.7p v 7p. Poor. Under where analysts are forecasting, but this is where the forecasts seem wrong. My calculation of 9.2p EPS for the full year seems to tie in. Interim divi flat at .69p Net debt £3.4m. OK John Sachs leaves. A serious move. Decks clear for a bid? Year end forecast unchanged. But what are the expectations of the board? They have said £9.5m to £10m. Very clear. So the key question. Are these shares worth holding? At todays price £53m v £10m of profit is good value. I would go lower. At around £8m profit, are they still good value? I think so. In my view fair value is £64m ie 90p share price. But you make your own mind up. A strong Hold for me. Break even for me is at around 75.5p, so I am currently sitting on a modest loss. I’m just an amateur so DYOR.

Results I hate to have to point out the obvious but if they bought (and this means they think results must be good) didn’t someone else sell (suggesting the opposite)?

The_buzz 29 Sep 2018

Results Not long now to the results coming out on 10th October. It is therefore reassuring that the latest RNS shows that Platform Securities have increased their holding from 3% to 5%. I doubt that they would have increased their stake unless they considered that the share price was likely to go up when the results are announced. The Buzz

Hugh_Betcha 24 Sep 2018

Results One year ago these shares changed hands at 240p. Today they’re worth 65p. But apparently it’s not a turkey, the results were good, management knows what it is doing and it is only an ignorant market of buyers and sellers who fail to understand value which accounts for the 73% drop. As they say, LOL.

Results At around £75+ a roll for wallpaper it is probably the upper end of the middle classes closing their wallets…interestingly looking at rival Colefax which Buzz mentions the market for high end fabrics & wallpaper is just as sluggish in Europe according to their figures. The"Trump boom" in the USA is where Colefax is making their money mainly from fitting out properties;WGB is a smaller player in this market. The high end property bubble, which exceeded the bubble lower down, caused by excess & prolonged use of quantitative easing that is now deflating will mean that sales & margins are going to be under pressure for sometime. Royalty fee deals like the new H&M one are something of a life saver. The income in total is only £3m but as most of it is profit it is quite significant. I have increased my holding but am not expecting to be able to re-paper the spare room from the profits in the near future…

Greyinvestor 18 Sep 2018

Results I did look at the wallpaper market, to try to see whether it is in terminal decline. What I could find suggested that ‘in principle’ it is running about level with inflation ie a flat market, but Brexit seems to have caused the middle classes to shut their wallets…
