Volume ! 17m shares traded in 4 big tranches. I wonder what prompted those ? With only 340m shares in issue will we have a holding RNS soon ?Nice rise though TP

Re: Tremendous results Well it really is easy! Buy a company which is making good profits (or out of which same can immediately be made e.g. by using group resources/cpnsolidation) by paying a large amount more than the net assets. Those profits are now yours and the excess amount paid sits in your balance sheet as an intangible asset. You decide to write off that "asset" over 20 years or, worse, over a period which you review each year, so for now you have "created" great profits. In a cyclical industry such as the motor trade those profits will at some stage be hit as surely as night follows day, and at that stage the write off of goodwill will be nasty, and could be up to 100%.Actually, I agree with your original comments but only for the short to medium term. In such an industry amassing a balance sheet of which approximately one third of the nets assets are intangible (and subject to up to 100% write off) is a dangerous game longer term. That said I believe that the management of this company is strong, so the best of luck to you (and I have not sold my own holding........ yet!!)

Re: Tremendous results Mm...."let us bear in mind that it is the easiest thing in the world to build up profits ... ."I guess everyone starting up a business should give you a call in order to learn how easy it is !!VTU is not the only motor retailer having a good time, and, of course, the boom will fade sooner or later. But for the moment the company is demonstrating a sound policy which is progressing towards its goals on the back of profits not borrowing. Plenty of room for manoeuvre here.Still a buy in my book.Regards, TP

Re: Tremendous results net tangible assets only 38.3p per share, let us bear in mind that it is the easiest thing in the world to build up profits whilst at the same time also building up goodwill on the balance sheet, at this time a whopping £51 million. All great until the market downturn and then some or even the whole amount has to be written off. I have seen it many times....................................
