Slight surprise that no comments on price collapse here? @J_Westlock, no they don’t get on with it. I’ve been with them for a few years so know their reports structure well. Corporate actions appear in the Corp Action menu and in the Transactions report but a lot of the information is inadequate . I have direct contact with the Customer Services Manager and ‘know’ the dealing team and customer services team leaders. They acknowledge all the issues I’ve raised but are unable to fix them as they have to wait for the other teams which can take forever. All messages are dealt with by the dealing team/customer services what they can do is limited. I don’t think you’ve been with them for too long or perhaps have several accounts to deal with like I do. Prefer to stick with ii for now but only been with them 6 months so far they’ve been better . Might think of Share Centre next time at least they say its possible to speak to corporate actions directly which is more than half my battle. Slightly higher costs perhaps but I’m happy to pay if its a good service. How have you found Saxo for corporate actions and accurate reporting?
Slight surprise that no comments on price collapse here? @J_Westlock, @jackdawsson, someone mentioned how dissatisfied they were with AJBell corporate actions. Was it either of you? Impossible to make any sense of most corporate actions, links/downloads don’t work I have to search the web for info to make a decision. Other teams similarly poor. Incorrect data which I’ve queried and no resolution a week later!! I used to think they were one of my better brokers but since they’ve moved (probably different staff) and changed platform I cannot recommend them - I’d like to transfer away but unfortunately they still have high exit charges - come on FCA make no exit charges mandatory. I’d be very careful about changing provider.
Another Hit On the Investing Dart Board… Swamp_Cat: Perhaps the Wheel of Fortune? Hi @Swamp_Cat, Well that certainly conveys the randomness element, but is completely missing any sense of peril !!! . No on balance I prefer minefield I think, but too late now… ATB Pref
Another Hit On the Investing Dart Board… PrefInvestor1: Yes “Investment Minefield†would have been a better analogy probably, though of course with stocks you dont have to move to get hit !. And I somehow I wanted to emphasis that element of getting hit at random without you actually doing anything… Perhaps the Wheel of Fortune?
Another Hit On the Investing Dart Board… Hi @valueseeker8, Yes “Investment Minefield†would have been a better analogy probably, though of course with stocks you dont have to move to get hit !. Investing in single stocks might be OK if you put your money in, set a stop loss and aim to get out with a certain profit. Or just get out sometime if you’ve made a worthwhile sum. I dont tend to do that though, I am really investing for the dividends (and re-investing them) so I really want something that is stable and pays a reliable divi that I can just sit and watch. ITs and ETFs are much better for this I have found. ATB Pref
Another Hit On the Investing Dart Board… PrefInvestor1: If you can avoid treading on a mine IMO “The investing Minefield†is far more a appropriate a term than the “The Investing Dartboardâ€! For the stock market is indeed a minefield and not a dart board. There are some hidden little gems in the stock market. It is up to the investor’s wit and luck whether to become a dart board or the finder of those little gems! I personally been hit by several of those stock market mines! CNA, VOD and FOXT are few examples! But I also found many little gems! AAZ, TSG , HGM and GKP are some examples.I also made descent profit on the likes of AZN, IMB, BAE, RR, GLEN, MRW and even RMG, I took the profit and moved on! But I kept them in a VP I created for memory! I can understand your single stocks avoidance strategy and investing into ITs and ETFs instead. I used to do that before, but I couldn’t help feeling that my money is working (mostly!) for someone else! And I felt that I’d rather carry the can myself (and possibly take a loss) rather than let someone else make a fool of me! I know that there is no place for such emotions in the stock market
Another Hit On the Investing Dart Board… Hi All, Well a couple of more hits on the investing dartboard yesterday. Carnival down 12% (guess people aren’t booking cruises ?) and Dixon’s Carphone - was down over 10% but end the day only 5.x- down. The likes of Kier, Saga, Intu and Centrica continue their declines, to levels I wouldn’t have thought possible only a few months ago. Tobacco stocks (BATS and IMB) are WAY down over the last year, both sort of 40% down by the look of it, long term holders there won’t be happy. Overall though the FTSE 100 doing very nicely. If you can avoid treading on a mine !. Still avoiding single stocks myself. All the best with your investments, whatever they might be. Pref
Trumped Again! Hi @eadwig, Yes there are some big name companies in his funds BDEV, TW, NRR, CRST & IMB plus yes Burford Capital as you say. Plus many others too doubtless, not easy to collate a complete list now as they are limiting access to the top 10 holdings. They also have a shedload of RAV, RAVC & RAVP as well - not sure in which fund exactly. There will be many seeing woodford fallout that didnt know that their investments were affected is my guess. And yes there might well be bargains on offer if they have to do forced sales due to redemptions. I had a punt on NRR which Ive now sold (just in case) and I also had a larger amount of RAVP which I sold before the price started dropping. Cant immediately think of anything else Im holding that might be affected. Only got the 6 single stocks (BP, RDSB, AV, LGEN, GSK & HSBA) pretty well everything else is in ITs and ETFs plus a few prefs for old times sake. ATB Pref
Trumped Again! PrefInvestor1: Anyway I am not sorry to be out of these Woodford blighted investments There are other blighted investment due to Woodford in funds which he managed like St James Place had 3.5Bn with him until they removed him June 6th (this may have been covered above somewhere). It would be strange if he hadn’t many of the same picks for them in their fund as he had picked for his own fund … so equally, as a new manager takes over that cash, they are likely to disagree with at least some of his picks and will thus withdraw from them. So yes, well out for now, although some are good companies that will be dragged down by selling and may well be picked up for bargain prices. BURford Capital is one I have kept and traded through this period.
Trumped Again! Thanks. I’ll keep an eye out for the capital raise… I have a couple of those renewables flagged to alert me when the price dips. Looks like NRR has flattened out close to 194. Wonder if Friday will see this starting to tank down after XD and with the Woodford effect. Will be watching closely over coming weeks when to get back in.
Trumped Again! Hi Again @J_Westlock, I have AAIF & IAPD both good I think. I also have HFEL & JEMI, HFEL vg yield. In renewables I have most of them BSIF, FSFL, JLEN, NESF, TRIG & UKW. All yield 5.x% mostly RPI linked but all trade at close to a 10% premium. A good strategy on these might be to be wait for the next one to do a capital raise which will likely bring the price down. They all seem to do this pretty regularly. ATB Pref
Trumped Again! Any ideas on some ETFs (or ITs) with a decent yield for Asia region? I already hold: INVESCO FD MNGRS INVESCO HK & CHINA UK Y ACC ABERDEEN ASIAN INC ORD NPV ISHARES ASIA PACIFIC DIV UCITS ETF USD DIST … but was looking for another. Also need to get more exposure to Renewables but the ITs I look at all seem well over priced (to me).
Trumped Again! HI @J_Westlock, Yes going like a train today, still into the buffers IMHO but we’ll see. People are buying the divi I reckon ?. Anyway I am not sorry to be out of these Woodford blighted investments. Things could change a lot for the things that his funds hold over the next few weeks I reckon. And REITs of all flavours are generally to be avoided ATM I think, see my post on the NRR board. ATB Pref
Trumped Again! I see that NRR is doing OK… suspect it will fall maybe big time on Friday after XD though.
Trumped Again! Well the SP is only going to rise before XD if people are buying, and will they do so ATM ?. I think that the SP may stay pretty much where it is ie 180s and then drop on Thursday when it goes XD. Can’t be sure of that obviously just a personal theory… ATB Pref
