Re: sector problem? LKH,"Blimey, m8, Ivan has a lot invested in GLEN. Do you have faith in him?"Unfair comparison IMO. Ivan was forced into buying shares in a placing to maintain his percentage share of company and pay down debt. Anil and his family have been steadily buying shares in VED in the open market because they have confidence in future of their company thus increasing share of company they own. They are also majority shareholders unlike Ivan and his management team. VED has been around a lot longer than Glencore and grew organically not by conning investors into buying IPO.Not so much red around this morning but VED lost most of its gain yesterday and down about 0.5% this morning. Copper hit new low. I'm fed up with oversupply in commodities markets. Perhaps if Europeans go back to petrol cars instead of dirty diesels oil price might rise with demand. I'm doing my bit with a 3L petrol engined car, though nowadays it spends practically all it's time in my garage while I use Shank's pony. You could stick a petrol outboard on your boat instead of a diesel engine

Re: sector problem? sporty investo,It is almost as if the market read and agreed with my humble opinion. While I typed my earlier comment, posted at 10:51, SP went up from about +1% to +2%. Now it is +4.6% which is, considering rise in mining sector toady and interest rate cut in India, around the appropriate amount IMO I think sell off in mining sector is overdone generally. Some smaller high cost miners will go to the wall particularly in America, I think, as they have the head wind of a strong dollar pushing up their labour costs. In India, South America and Africa, generally speaking, their currencies have weakened compared with US dollar.India currently imports most of its oil, other energy and raw industrial materials. It is my belief that will change and be a great opportunity for VED. I have faith in Anil Agarwal management who has a lot invested in Vedanta.

Re: sector problem? Rhigos, the interest rate cut in India might not have been noticed by the market here. Probably, you are the first person to have released the info . Well spotted. Glencore has not fallen any further today. Vedanta being an India oriented company, how far does the Chinese down turn, going to effect Vedanta? There is an article in today's Times about Indian prime minister's proposed visit to Wembley with nice comments about India and its economy. I think your opinion about Vedanta being under valued is correct.

Re: sector problem? Rhigos,"IMO VED is undervalued."Well, possibly, m8. Personally I wouldn't even THINK of investing in a company that had Cynthia and Albanese anywhere near the top of the tree. Them two jokers did more than enough damage at Anglo American and Rio Tinto respectively for me ever to put a red cent in a company that employed either of 'em ... let alone both of 'em fercryingoutloud.LKH on the flybridge

Re: sector problem? sporty investor, "...mood in the whole sector?" YESI am surprised that VED is not up more this morning. India announced a 0.5% cut in interest rates a 0.25% cut was forecast.IMO VED is undervalued. Yield of 9.4%, P/E 0.3, ROCE growth 256%.

sector problem? Ved sp dropping this morning. Is it a reflection of the depressive mood in the whole sector?

LK Hyman 20 Sep 2015

Blimey! So, VED brings Cynthia Corbyn on board. That's .... surprising. First Albanese, the Alcan and Mozambique coal wunderkind, and now Cynthia of Anglo American Brazilian iron ore cost overrun fame. What was Anil thinking?I'm very happy not to be on board this VED puppy.LKH on the flybridge hasn't done that well with BLT and RIO, to be fair

Oversold? Over 12% fall today seems too much to me. I was wondering if it had anything to do with Dilip Golani, Director of Management Assurance and Information Technology, selling 3,000 shares. He had 27,500 so about 10% of his holding sold. Probably not too significant.More interesting times ahead on Monday when Chinese markets open again following 2 days of being closed because of anniversary of the end of World War II, commemorative national holiday.Buying opportunity IMO but probably not for widows and children.I heard ECB may increase level of QE.

Vedanta to start iron ore mining ops in Goa next week [link]

LK Hyman 08 Aug 2015

Re: VED up 8% any reason? U1"VED plans to recommence mining for iron ore in Goa."Albanese and Agarwal must have manure for their brains. That is as likely to be successful as a new tourism venture in the Pilbara in Oz.LKH on the flybridge

Re: VED up 8% any reason? LK, close but no cigar, old chap. Though I do regularly find your posts entertaining. The movement is because of positive sentiment around VED plans to recommence mining for iron ore in Goa. Not entirely sure why it's triggered 8% given the state of the iron market, but ho hum, I had been thinking VED was looking cheap earlier in the week when I bought in at 395p. Now if they could only sustain the divi yield...~U1~

Re: VED up 8% any reason? Loadsa,Perhaps VED has sacked that plonka Albanese?LKH on the flybridge hasn't forgiven him for Alc

VED up 8% any reason? I don't see that oil is up at all though some other miners are up but not by nearly as much
