Re: Bobbing around Thanks.....But it seems always to be on an extended PE certainly for as long as I can remember Mrs Pie having it in her accounts......and she did a bed'n'isa back in 2014? when AIM could go into ISAs.Have to admit, did say that if bid sp went to around 330p i would have to look at top slicing as it would be just too big a component of the ISA %wise.Obviously someone thought similarly and price plummeted on Thursday or Friday (can't recall) but up similarly today so someone wants it!GLAPE

Re: Bobbing around Hello Pie Eater,Thorpe share price is on quite extended PE ratio. IHMO nextresults need to be remarkable to justify current share price. I've exited most of mine for the moment. May regret my decision as Thorpe is a fine Company. If share price dips I will probably add to my now limited holding.

Bobbing around Been a volatile 2-3 days for SP.........Anyone got any thoughts? Don't often see 6-8% swings one way the the other when overall market is muted.PE

Liontrust Latest RNS says Liontrust has established a 5% holding in Thorpe (must be from below 3%).Maybe reason for recent upward move in share price?

Rising share price Thorpe's share price has been on the move upwards in recent weeks. In their Trading Updates The Board are not in the habit of being overoptimistic re projections of its business, so the information is the link might be viewed as being very positive! Nevertheless the Company is trading on quite a high PE ratio already![link]

Re: Results A very pleasing set of results.Whilst the % increase in EPS may be not quite as high in previous years, Thorpe has generated significantly more cash than in the previous year, some of which has been invested in securities which makes sense given the current very low interest rates on cash deposits. The strategic move towards generating business in the EU has been rewarded with a significant growth in sales revenue, accompanied by a more modest increase in the UK. From comments in the text of the report, sales in Spain (via the new associate Company) have yet to take off but may be poised to in the coming years. It seems that the Dutch subsidiary products are quite popular in the UK (more aesthetically pleasing but higher priced than those made in the UK.) Maybe robbing Peter to pay Paul but product diversification is no bad thing. and one of Thorpe's great strengths in its chosen lighting markets. So a nice increase in the divi, well covered and great level of diversification in its chosen fields. One gets the impression that Thorpe management are not exactly overjoyed by Brexit referring the the difficulties of generating sales in the the likes of India, China and Brazil said to be highly protected compared with the great successes just across the Channel.SM

Results According to the web site, see the results are due on 22nd Sept

smilingmickey1 25 Aug 2016

Results soon Not much to discuss in the past several months on this board. Full yera results due in September?Share price now in all time high territory after a while of treading water, whihc is a positive sign for chartists. Will the results comments be that there is a downturn in UK demand? One would expect margins and maybe also sales volumes to have increased in overseas business following equity purchases of 2 Companies operating in Europe. IN retrospect these moves maybe a better move than they might have expected.SM

Street lights As darkness descends and the street lights brighten the gloom, I was wondering how many street lights we have in the country, how many have been changed to LED, of these how many have Thorpe supplied, and what is the size of the market? It is obviously growing but what impact will this have on the company?Another thought was that if all the street lights are converted to LED, how much electricity would this save, and would it negate the need for a nuclear power station or two. From a cost effectiveness point I would imagine that street lights are way in front of nuclear power and will not saddle us with large bills in the future or leave us at the mercy of state owned concerns, from which ever part of the globe they come from.Any thoughts?

Re: Re: Agree completely Pharma. If I find a share I want to invest in based on my assessment of the fundamentals I sometimes "bleed in" my funds over a period of time. In the case of Thorpe, good results have propelled the price upwards in the short term but we are now seeing some downward movement. Who knows how much lower it might go before consolidating, RSI before 30 might be a buy sign if the share price continues to fall but an unexpected positive announcement could nullify the current short term drop.I'm in for the long term here like Pharma, but I might be tempted to top up if the price goes below £2.00.The Directors own a lot of this Company and have a good track record.

Re: The share price is up by about 15% since mid-September and is only a few pence from the all time high and, as far as I am aware, there are no official analyst estimates of earnings so if your holdings tend to be short term in nature you may well find a cheaper point of entry. However if, like me, you have a time horizon of five years or more for your investments, then you are unlikely to be disappointed as Thorpe has a fairly good long term record, helped by healthy profit margins and a conservative management. It is family controlled which means that it is not likely to take too many risks and retains a sizeable cash balance, so don't expect too much excitement.
