Re: Just a thought Is there a deliberate ramp up in volume of shares purchased by the company recently? Can they see good news on the horizon and are quickly buying shares at these low prices?

Just a thought With the company continuing to sell around 400k to 500 k shares a day, Mike Ashley's percentage holding continues to increase.With all the agro the City is giving him what are the chances,that he may surprise them all and take the Company privatea again?

Sports Direct 'modern slavery' Two brothers who conned and threatened Sport Direct agency workers have been jailed.Erwin and Krystian Markowski recruited 18 vulnerable men in Poland and sent them to the retailer's warehouse in Shirebrook, Derbyshire.The brothers from Poland controlled their victim's bank accounts and kept most of their wages, Nottingham Crown Court heard.They have both been sentenced to six years in prison for "modern slavery".The prosecution accepted it wasn't "forced labour" but said the workers had "very little choice". Re: info please I don't think the company releases Christmas Trading numbers!I assume current trading is in line with the update given with the interim report in December.If it is not a trading update will need to be given as was done last year.Otherwise there is no requirement to issue figures (even if we would be interested to have them!).

Re: Share buy back. There are strict regulatory rules re share buy backs;companies cannot use share buy backs in such a way that it influences the share price of the company.If it appears for example that the share price is increasing as a result of the buy back then a company has to cease its buy backs in the trading period.It is highly unlikely that SPD will buy anywhere near 37m shares in the present period for which it has authority.If it did it would frankly be rather bad news for shareholders because it would indicate that many of its existing shareholders were keen to dump their shares at a historically low price.Lower in fact presently than the price at which SPD originally floated on the market.The only factor that will cause SPD share price to out perform the market is for its trading results to exceed market expectations.

Share buy back. SPD will keep taking them whilst they are offered.However, the very second the supply dries up then the stock motors northwards.There will be but one winner, and it wont be the city spivs.MA has shown that he will not be controlled and made to become the puppet.As for journos who go to press slating him and his business acumen.Have these journos created an empire providing work for 17,000 people?Easy to slate someone from the sideline.Sports Direct announces that on 13 January 2017 it purchased 512,900 of its ordinary shares from Citigroup Global Markets Limited (acting as the Company's broker) on the London Stock Exchange at a price of 285.2 pence per share. The purchased shares will all be held as treasury shares.Following the above purchase, the Company holds 50,380,454 ordinary shares as treasury shares. The total number of ordinary shares in issue (excluding shares held as treasury shares) is 590,221,915.Only approx another 37,000,000 shares that SPD has authority to buy back.

[link] must be lossing his touch selling out, when they are out perfoming his own company.Although, its clear SD are selling his two bit brands and looking to trade upmarket to the Big two nike and adidas, buthe has a big job on his hands to make the public belive that he is a fashion retailer against JD...although I do rate him as a good judge, lets see what happens in the next 12 months...the sale of football replica jerseys are down, which will hit him hard too, so these need to pick up, maybe a good run of winning games for England might help

I think if there was any opportunity missed, then it was an opportunity to buy lower.With a raft of sector peers all reporting good trading, it would be amazing if spd doesnt report similar.With the BB in full swing, there is a guaranteed ready buyer.There is NO maximum amount spd can buy stock at, and once the selling overhang is cleared it will provide the sp an opportunity to really gain some traction is my opinion.MA is shrewd.His tones have not been liked by many city spivs, but he is sucesful and knows the business.I would actually much prefer to hand him my money for him to invest than myself, as he has certainly been more sucesful in life (in terms of wealth) than i have.buying spd stock, i believe i am doing just that.Will it close above £3 today?My opinion = Strong Buy

OdeyContinued BB... no sold stock hitting market to create downward pressure.Fantastic trading statement today from JD (spd are large shareholder in JD)Industry sector reporting great trading all round.Certainly stars are aligning themselves, and i forsee only blue skies ahead.My Opinion = Strong Buy

Buyer With a confirmed buyer and support from Odey, and with the increased volume, fair to say that the seller is likely to be clear soon.At this point clear blue sky?????Worth noting MA and Odey underlying tones...I read it as they are wringing their hands in disbelief that others are not seeing the wood for the trees.My Opinion = Strong Buy
