Re: News from Somero re hurricane Thats good news and as good as could be expected.IIncidentally, in my search for information on their website on Hurricane Irma effects, I noticed that they have introduced an Hispanic versuon of the website as they seek to drive further into Latin America. PS From the number of Spanish speakers in the US, officaor illegal, it will probably be useful for their business there too!I still think that they have sunk a bit too far and maybe that this is a buying opportunity or will be soon if there are any more pessimists out there about the Irma effects on this year's profits.
News from Somero re hurricane I've copied this from Stockopaedia (a web service I use)"I had an email passed on to me by an investor friend from John Yuncza, CFO at Somero. John was happy for it to be circulated as Somero has already updated its broker Finn Cap."I can confirm all Somero employees and the families are safe, and there was no damage to the Somero headquarters. This storm will not impact our business as we are managing the business remotely and through our Houghton, Michigan infrastructure. The main issue were dealing with is the lack of power in the Fort Myers area and inconsistent cell service which has delayed our ability to officially re-open the headquarters building. To put it in perspective, 65% of Florida is currently without power, so this is an issue that will take time to get fully back to normal. Thankfully, no meaningful incremental costs are expected as a result of this historic storm."
Re: Excellent results this morning I agree SM,However, being a leader in their field I reckon the growth prospects globally must be reasonable.I'm happy to hold and more importantly, the stock has little UK exposure - I'm avoiding just about anything UK centric.J
Re: Finncap have 350p price target Hi Claude,Yes, I meant the commercial sector and with an eye on the US economy. After saying that the US is becoming less important to Somero as they expand their global operations.I note that US retail is under pressure due to Amazon et al and as a result of that US retail REITS are struggling. This could be a reason why the results from the US and quite up to scratch.I'm keeping a watching brief.J
Re: Excellent results this morning HI Gretel et al,Just to say that having trawled through the figures it seems to me that the "cash generated" figure in the interims is maybe understated. Som may have accrued in the accounts the value of the special divi payment (paid post results) and maybe also the ordinary divi payment announced with the results. If USA sales do better in H2 than H1 as Som suggests, I think there could be a bumper amount of cash stated in the results at full year.I think Som is becoming a "cash cow" stock where the cash pay outs will be attractive to stockholders with capital appreciation being not so fast as the last couple of years. New tip on Motley Fool [link] small-cap dividend stocks could be millionaire makersRoland Head06 September 2017Some companies are just a pleasure to write about. Not just because their financial results are usually good. But also because you can rely on their management to provide a balanced and clear view of trading and market conditions. One company which ticks these boxes for me is Somero Enterprises (LSE: SOM). This £156m firm is a market-leader in the field of concrete-levelling equipment. This is widely used in the non-residential construction market. For example, in a modern warehouse, a perfectly flat and horizontal floor is essential.Somero's selling point is not only the quality of its equipment, but the fact that it provides training and 24/7 global support for all customers. After all, when you've just poured a concrete floor, waiting until tomorrow for help isn't much use.Promising growth outlookTurning to the numbers, market conditions appear to be strong. Revenue rose by 7% to $42.4m during the first half, while pre-tax profit was 15% higher at $12m. Net cash remained strong at $18.3m, allowing management to increase the interim dividend by 10%.Somero's main market is North America, which accounts for around two-thirds of sales. This region was hit by wet weather during H1 and sales fell slightly, from $29.8m to $28.4m. But the group expects a stronger second half and says its customers are reporting project backlogs "well into 2018".The group's H1 sales outside North America logged an impressive 41% gain, rising from $9.9m to $14m. Sales rose in markets including Europe, Latin America and Asia. This growing geographic diversity suggests to me that profits could be more robust than they have been in the past, if the US market slows.Management remains confident of hitting full-year expectations. Broker forecasts indicate that earnings per share are expected to rise by 10% this year, putting the stock on a forecast P/E of 13 with an ordinary dividend yield of about 3.1%. In my view, Somero remains worth buying at current levels."
Re: Finncap have 350p price target There might be quite a bit of work for them in Florida after Irma has been to visit
Re: Finncap have 350p price target Why the US property market rather than commercial property or perhaps that is what you meant? Or even the US economy, because demand for big boxes is driven by major retailers and manufacturers, and that is what drives Somero?
Re: Finncap have 350p price target Hi Gretel,I sold 1/2 on the previous spike (something over 300p) earlier in the year and held the rest, even tho a number of commentators (ie IC) had moved to "sell".However, I really like this company which strikes me as a no-nonsense straight forward business operating in global markets.I think we have seen the best of the growth, but what's not to like about a 4.0% yield and steady (if unspectacular) growth.I'd be quick to sell if the US property market weakens though.Jim
Finncap have 350p price target as reiterated this morning.
Re: SOM top AIM company quality list Why not top up whilst the stock price is depressed?
Tipped by Jupiter fund manager Good to see SOM recommended so highly by Jupiter's fund manager as follows:[link] "Fund manager focus: James Zimmerman25 Aug 2017Jupiter smaller companies fund manager James Zimmerman explains how investments in enterprises that generate non-sterling revenues and profits have boosted his fund""The second stock Zimmerman mentioned is Somero Enterprises. He remarked, Somero Enterprises, which is up 128 per cent in the past 12 months, is a US-focused manufacturer of concrete-levelling machinery and was also among the strongest-performing positions over the past two years.Somero has a 99 per cent market share globally in the leading concrete-laying technology, and after recently meeting with the company in Florida, I was impressed by the strength of its ongoing new product development, as well as the strength and longevity of its customer relationships with contractors that buy its equipment both in the US and the rest of the world."
Re: SOM top AIM company quality list "special dividend per share of $0.133 (the "Special Dividend". ........ The Special Dividend will be paid on 14 August 2017 to shareholders on the register as at 28 July 2017."
Re: SOM top AIM company quality list ...also the special dividend date just passed
Re: SOM top AIM company quality list nearly 16% off the 52 week high and was at 311p only 27th July! Reasons? Trump/Trump/Trump?
