Re: Interims To respond to my own musings, they say that they're only brushing the surface internationally (in travel), so I guess that the party goes on. Just keep an eye on the debt, please, Mr Smith.
interims As you say, another nice increase in the dividend and if they could just find some initiatives in the high street, the shares could go much higher. I think the idea of Post offices in store would help but, for example, where I live WHS has a large area which would be ideal but they are next door to a fairly new Co-Op which already has the Post Office in residence.
Interims Nice divi increase, again. Debt edging up; although very low.Wonder just how much more traction there is in Travel before they're going to either have to think of new initiatives, and not just coffee shops in hospitals, or just accept that it's a cash cow.
SP lift Guess that most have checked it out by now, but just in case, Barclays lifted SMWH to overweight with a 1990p target.
NEW ARTICLE: How WH Smith can hit record high "On a day when markets couldn't decide which way they wanted to go, newsagent chain LSE:SMWH:WH Smith stood out. It issued a well-received trading update four weeks ago, so Tuesday's 5% rally was fuelled solely by a bullish assessment of the ..."[link]
Investec Consistently good - has been a long time favourite of mine - addition of post offices can only help.
Investec Upgraded us today, which provided the nice little uplift.
NEW ARTICLE: Double celebration for surging WH Smith "We havenât heard much from LSE:SMWH:WH Smith since final results in October. Numbers then failed to ignite much interest, and the share price has traded largely between £13 and £16 since the Brexit vote. But, after crowing that it will make more ..."[link]
Re: Results "farely" = "fairly" - duh!Nothing much else new, folks, I'm checking out likely depositories for cash from my NatWest Instant Saver a/c., previously known as esavings. They've reduced the gross interest rate to 0.001%, and still have the nerve to call it a savings a/c. Now I need as safe a haven as possible. Any thoughts?
Re: Results Divi cover is just over 2x. The p/e would be slightly high for a low growth business like SMWH if it weren't for strong cash flow, lack of debt and it being a farely safe business.
Re: Results I'm a holder, as I've said before, well run. Is a P/E of 16 high in a very tough business? Must check divi cover. SL
Results Steady as she goes by the look of things. More or less in line with expectations, if ever so slightly down on expected eps.So that's (@1525p) a current P/E of 16, a yield of 2.9%, no debt and with steady growth prospects. What's not to like.
Buying in shares They seem to be buying in a lot of shares so they obviously think they are cheap. It would suggest the price could be a lot lower if they weren't buying? Funny, I think it is a well run business. SL
Trading update Although the update was positive overall, the fall in the High Street sales will be a slight disappointment after the hope engendered by the Christmas trading. I suspect the shares will fall/go sideways at best, until the next set of results.
Broker rating JP Morgan Cazenove today reaffirms its overweight investment rating on WH Smith PLC (LON:SMWH) and raised its price target to 1850p (from 1700p). Story provided by StockMarketWire.c
