DRIP shares Does anyone know why it takes between 22 and 17 days for SL to credit accounts with DRIP shares following a dividend payment date?I have checked and last years payment date was 24th May and additional shares were only added to my account on the 15th June. Is this normal? S

Re: Endownment policy payout predictions I woke up this morning to find £45K endowment payout added to my bank account. Happy days as they wrote to say it would be in the £38K region.I make that 83% of the £54K target. Plus I still have £3K worth of shares.Though my dear father who never approved of me taking out an endowment mortgage all those years ago worked in finance (once upon a time for SL.), set it up commission free so that might have helped. (I guess he turned out to be right about the mortgages.)Now I just have to decide what to do with the cash

Re: Std. Life's Website Failings I am pretty sure the information commissioner would be very interested to hear of there failings, however he might fine them!

Re: Std. Life's Website Failings Hi there Mike,Whenever I have a problem and require a response from whichever company I feel I am having a problem with, like you, I will address my query / complaint to the Chief Exec (Skeoch) and /or to McGill in person but I do not not address the letter simply to the company itself.I normally allow about 14 days for an acknowledgement in writing and if I do not receive such then I write again but this time send it Recorded Delivery. This method has always succeeded up to now.Rather annoyingly (to me anyway) I have found that some companies try to respond by telephone or even e-mail. I discourage this and tell the compnay that if I write to them then courtesy alone demand that they respond to me in writing.I like to keep things as formal as possible and I don't appreciate the company concerned getting "pally" and addressing me by my first name. If things ever got serious enough that they needed further action then the fact that you have things in writing is important. Telephone conversations tend to get lost even when the company tells you it is being recorded or what is said may possibly be disputed.Keep on at them they will respond and I hope that they can offer you a workable solution.Kind regardsTJ

Std. Life's Website Failings Apologies to all who perhaps feel this is not the correct place to post about the S.L. website. However, I've made numerous attempts to discuss the failings with the company itself and have yet to receive any response. I wrote to both Keith Skeoch and Robert McGill (Head of Digital Delivery) recently and still await a response. The site is again "down" today so I'm unable to obtain a valuation on my pension a fortnight before my "retirement" date.If anybody has a S.L. pension or other similar investment and has regularly accessed their site for valuation purposes I'd appreciate knowing if I'm alone in my belief that the site is less than useful. For example, on the old site (now removed) I could see on screen each policy, the total value of each (including any terminal bonus) and a grand total valuation. I could use the offered PRINT function to print and file the value at the start of each month. I cannot print anything on the new site - I need to access several screens and use a calculator to add-up the terminal bonus to the displayed (and incorrect) total pension value.Other parts of the site provide incomplete and hence incorrect data - such as past contributions.I despair. But, I also worry that if they cannot manage a relatively simple website how on earth can they be trusted to manage my investments.......and YOURS.

Re: Sub-standard Life? "... However this merger seems ill-thought out. The spin in the media is shifting from 'long -time fishing friends' to one of 'very different and distinct roles for each co-chief exec'. Something close to desperation appears to be creeping into the justification argument. I would not be certain it will proceed as planned."The main difficulty they have is trying to present the positives of the merger today, whereas it is really all about where they fear they - and their industry - will be in five years time. But obviously, this is a much more difficult and downbeat message to convey. To this extent, I agree with Skeoch... it's all about scale going forward, but for largely defensive reasons. You either have to be big and low-cost, with economies of scale... or niche and low-cost. The middle ground is likely to be No Man's Land.Where there definitely is "desperation" creeping in is in the defence of the co-CEO structure... as witnessed by yesterday's fairly extraordinary RNS, detailing the respective roles and areas of responsibility. They are clearly getting a fair bit of heat on this from shareholders. No reason I can see why the merger won't proceed as planned - however disingenuous the presentation, they'll be determined to tough it out. But every reason why the co-CEO element won't proceed as planned - not for very long, anyway.

Sub-standard Life? I am an admirer of SL and long-term holder here;-And also admire Keith Skeoch; However this merger seems ill-thought out.The spin in the media is shifting from 'long -time fishingfriends' to one of 'very different and distinct roles for each co-chiefexec'.(see this evening - online Telegraph)Something close to desperation appears to be creepinginto the justification argument.I would not be certain it will proceed as planned.

Re: Execution risk Over recent years I've definitely fallen into the buy and hold category of private investor, but I have to admit that I'm ready to offload my Stan Life shares. Its quite worrying that the shine has gone off the proposed merger so quickly (I'm not sure if the sudden lift to £4 plus lasted more than a couple of days). From a personal perspective I work in the industry and I have to admit I just don't seem to be recommending any of Standard Life's products any more. Their wrap/platform product appears expensive and their funds don't seem to come up on my radar too often. Also having moved away from being active in other arears such as protection and annuities they really need to make their core platform offerings more attractive IMHO. On a selfish note I'd quite like to see a bit of a bounce from current levels before selling, but as hard as I try I just can't seem to put together a strong enough argument for holding on.

Re: Execution risk "Beginning to get a little ugly here. How low can it go?." EIHiUnsure if that is a rhetorical question but SL is on a watch list of mine, have traded it several times.A brief chart/TA view suggests that if the sp drops further, there are a couple of levels of possible support, firstly at 350/351 then on a further drop at 324.5I`m not predicting a drop, that`s just what charts/TA suggest as possibilities, might be totally wrong. No exposure here currently, if the sp should happen to visit 330 ish, would consider either a small buy or more likely a SB derivative long ( buy side )Very difficult to say at this stage whether the merger will work. Was in ADN with shares but sold out at the speed of light when it spiked up ( 303 + ), no interest in getting back in.The chatter about a better offer coming along convinced me to get out.Markets generally are very strong for now, might help SL ?GLsoi
