Finals It's hard to make a lot of sense out of the finals, because it has been such a transitional period. However the company is profitable, growing, paying a dividend, and (what is most important) optimistic about the future.
Re: Not impressed Interesting !! Stockopedia are entitled to their opinion. However, house broker 2016 forecast divi is well covered by forecast EPS, assertions that Far East (mainly China) fall in growth will materially adversely affect SGI is very over cautious-just look at the CSI300 continual rise despite much negative comment by some quarters and China GDP still expected to rise 7% in 2015 !!, SGI is very much in a consolidation phase and, per reference to doubled labour costs, was unlikely to immediately layoff all newly acquired employees, who are 'experts' in their respective businesses, until others could acquire their skills - not rocket science and I'm sure on the radar of SGI Accountants to rationalise and make leaner the workforce in the near future when newly acquired businesses have being merged more within the group, etc.. As far as stamps having no intrinsic value, neither do currency notes, share certiicates nor a ticket to the world cup final except for use in a fire if one is trapped somewhere at -30 degrees centigrade !!
Not impressed Being a shareholder since 2007, I do share the sentiment highlighted in the article below. Over the past couple of years, the financial metrics have deteriorated and do not backup the positive stance of the management. With things slowing down in the Far East, I do have concern the impact it will have on the firm's balance sheet, considering so much of its value is tied up in its inventory. Not particularly impressed with the new marketplace website. Tried loading it on my iPhone and iPad, it's horrendous. Unless there is an App for mobile devices, it is unlikely to capture a wide audience. [link]
The Marketplace Now that the Marketplace has been launched has anyone been online to use the site ?
Re: Avarae (avr) share activity probably good to get out and extract some value. Technically though the shares of avarae are at a 30-40% discount to net assets. Are Avarae's shareholders paying people a lot of money in pursuing a hobby at shareholders expense? They keep buying coins when they should be buying their own shares. I wish I had enough cash to become a activist shareholder.
Avarae (avr) share activity Check out the SGI related news on Avarae issued today. Interesting!!
Re: NEW ARTICLE: Stanley Gibbons talks a... After today it does not look like the market makers are that impressed.
Re: NEW ARTICLE: Stanley Gibbons talks a... The idea of running an Investment Trust which invests in collectables is an excellent idea. When ETFs arrived one of the things they introduced was the possibility to invest in assets like commodities, simply, in a regulated, liquid market; but it was impractical to have an ETF investing in collectables as each collectable item is unique; but a managed fund makes it possible. I think it's excellent. That doesn't mean I'm confident that it will be a success.
Re: NEW ARTICLE: Stanley Gibbons talks alter... For me, the attraction of SG is that it is diversifying away from stamps (and coins) to provide resilience when the market for stamps is weak. As a regular buyer at auctions, I am sure that a major opportunity for growth at SG is the high value collectibles & artistic objects market in areas where there is strong interest from overseas investors/collectors, such as antique Chinese ceramics. In my experience, there is always a group of Asian buyers for such items, even at some local auction houses in the UK.
NEW ARTICLE: Stanley Gibbons talks alternative investments "In the heart of Midtown, New York , Christies' gavel dropped, signalling that the most expensive piece of art had just been sold at auction. After a tense 11 and a half minute bidding war, Picasso's Women of Algiers was chased up to a phenomenal ..."[link]

Sold Sold at 268.75 having bought at 251 on 2nd April.I guess I can't really fathom this one out at the moment and will lighten my load before the election. Nothing against Stanley, but it's not going to be a core holding and £585 profit seems reasonable for 25 days work (work, that's a laugh).Games -- Good luck all holders

Re: Final Dividend Every indication is that they want to have a progressive dividend, and that a final dividend similar to the last will be adequately covered; so I suspect they will maintain or marginally increase the dividend. They may have had quite a bit of outlay of late, but most of it should be cash generative, and their debt situation is hardly onerous, so, like you, I would tend to be cautious, but I think it will be around 4p
Re: Final Dividend HB - Cheers I thought it was just me going crazy. So, so far no indication that the divi will be frozen or cut?Last time they upped it by 8% -- given the big outlays of late I'd be surprised if that was repeated.Nice rise again today.Games
