Re: Big fall today Possibly related to this :[link] generalisation I know, but all I could find.
Big fall today Shares haven't gone ex-div today (not that that would merit a +5% drop!). Anyone any idea what's happened?
Re: Wrong for Sure The share price continues to go bananas. That discount I mentioned the other day must be fast disappearing!
Re: Wrong for Sure Not totally sure I would agree that markets have been relatively flat, but perhaps that's because the 2 Davids are excellent small cap stock pickers......eg Jarvis was a new entry in the top 10 at the end of Feb and that has just gone up significantly today (13% at 8.20am) so accounting for 0.25% rise in SDV on it's own today. Agree that if all-share falls then this will struggle but if flat or rising, especially with decent volumes then these guys will deliver, especially ver the longer term (AIF is another one that sits in the same area and delivers, but can be volatile)Short term timeframe a hold but longer term, so riding out discount volatility, a definite buy.PE
Re: Wrong for Sure One reason they might rise further is because the underlying investments rise further!SDV is still available at a 4% discount. True the gearing is punchy at 18%, but the shares still yield a very healthy 3.8% by way of compensation. In the relatively flat markets of 2017, the managers of this trust have managed to eke out impressive gains. Assuming the FTSE All Share doesn't fall off a cliff, I see no reason why SDV is predestined to suddenly start underperforming.
Wrong for Sure Only three months ago I posted that I thought these fantastic shares had just about run their course and had reached their peak. Since then they have gone ahead a further 10%. Surely now that's about the end of their fantastic run. I should start trimming my holding now as I cannot see any reason for a further increase in the share price.
Small Companies Dividend Trust I could not resist another posting. As a follower of the shares for nearly 10 years I often wonder how many of you out there followed my advice and bought them at 36p in 2009. I reiterated the advice when they reached 40p then again at 50p. Even when they reached 100p I remember saying that with an asset value of 115 and a yield of 6% was there a better share to buy? I have put my money where my mouth is and my holding is by far the largest and most profitable I possess. This has proved to be a well managed trust and my heartfelt thanks go out to the management. Question now is can the success be continued? I have no intention of selling although I feel the shares are looking fully valued now. Maybe just a hold.
Re: If its yield you want rugosaplants,Its been a year now. Small dividend aside a loss of -6% here and more in the under fund.My other stock pics have not performed well.

If its yield you want I have moved some of my portfolio around and have gone into SDV. I want yield and growth potential, and I think this is one of the best going. I have also got into Aberforth Geared Income (AGIT) for the same reasons.Remember that this is the time of year when the market goes up quite strongly, and stays up until early summer. Another reason to buy, I think.
Re: I can do better than SDV? My opinion is that you are comparing chalk to cheese. None of your supposed alternatives are investment funds so not sure how you would think anyone would have any thoughts on this. The reason for investing in fund is to gain exposure to an equity class with diversification.
