Re: ValuableGrowth - soi/blanketstacker NXR is very interesting. I did formerly hold some, but as usual sold way too early. While the figures there are sound, two slight markers are perhaps worth considering. First a lot of their products have now come to prominence in B and Q. I cannot help but think this could result in their margins getting squeezed. Secondly, since the takeover of Vado the fittings are getting a much wider carriage in the trade, but I am told the quality has dropped. From being top end, there are now a lot more returns. On the positive side though, the adhesives side is still very much top of the game. Ultimately I think that could be the foundation on which the company goes forward. In the long term this seems a sound place to be to me.I know what you mean about the reluctance to see spare cash laying idle. I just have to keep reminding myself these are uncertain times. I will have a scan at AMC though!
Re: ValuableGrowth - soi/blanketstacker I find it difficult to stay in cash for any length of time so I am almost fully invested. I, like many of fellow investors as well as your good self think there is a nasty correction coming. I sold some of my mainstays in the last quarter such as SSE and RDSB due to forseeable threats. The first was the possible election of the SNP which would have left SSE with no funding for all of their windmills and then the fall in the oil price for RDSB. That money went into GSK which meant I was overloaded and even after a sell off, it is still too high. It's a good divi but the sp shows no strength when the market wobbles. I have sold off a portion but could not resist re-entering RDSB and BP yesterday. I am concerned about holdings in ANTO and now VNET but the proportion of total holding is only 2.25% and 1.66% respectively so not too threatening.I like VLK and NXR. VLK has struggled to make headway but I think we may well see some improvement this year. It's earning in dollars and has just gone into partnership with GoPro announced today. NXR has also struggled but I am now in profit and I think this has further to go providing the economy and employment keeps improving. I have held CNA and SBRY quite recently but CNA is suffering from Milliband's promise to freeze energy prices and SBRY was under the cosh from Lidl and Aldi syndrome. I hold a number of mining shares which, similarly, are under threat from oversupply and reduced demand. Again, they are not a big proportion of the whole. Apart from NXR and VLK, the only one that could be worth a punt and that is what it is, is AMC. I have held this mineral/nickel explorer for four years awaiting a mining licence. The Company has found a significant amount of nickel in Amur Oblast in Russia and it only needs one further approval and the mining licence is theirs. The current sp is 11p and the approval will see a significant re-rating. It's not something I would involve myself in again as I am looking for dividends and capital growth is a bonus at this uncertain time. The approval, however, is imminent.Casa.
Re: ValuableGrowth - soi/blanketstacker Yes, I am still reading Paul each day: a wise man I think! I am trying to sell off anything I can at the moment, as there is possibly a correction coming and I need some funds to buy in then. My watch list is now massive, with loads of decent companies becoming very affordable. I must admit I am not too keen on VNET at this price. If it hits the 60s again I will be tempted, but earnings are dropping away and I can see the dividend going entirely at some point. I noticed Paul no longer holds. Have you noticed his 'fanatsy fund' on his Stockopedia home page? My guess is this is very similar to his actual investment portfolio, given what he has said about his personal purchases. It is rather more speculative than I would have thought, if that is the case.As far as TUNG is concerned, I am staying away. In the first place I simply don't understand the company, what it does, or how it is meant to make money. Secondly the price is up and down like a fiddler's elbow. Much of that has to be driven by traders, and that kind of thing can become a real trap for very small investors like me. I have put a few quid into CNA and SBRY, both of which are underwater, but I live in hope. I also still hold DSG and VLK, which are doing OK. I actually topped up on the latter last week. ESUR has also got into my portfolio (how grand that word sounds!!!). If that drops into the 190s again I will certainly add if I have the funds. Unfortuanately I still have a lot of little stinkers to keep SAL company!! GDP and NGR sit unhandsomely beside her! Ultimately these should pull good, so I will just have to wait.I am targetting dividend payers exclusively now; and as I said the list is long and most target prices not far away. HNT is potentially interesting, as is PLP, if they drop a little bit more. CCH would be nice at under a tenner. If IND slips much farther, it could be worth a go too. All the figures here suggest value, and all offer a decent dividend while you wait for the rise to come.I hope I haven't made you drop off!Anything tickling your fancy out there?B
Re: ValuableGrowth - soi/blanketstacker Thanks, Blanketstacker, you have echoed my thoughts and I will await news. I have bought a few VNET as the divi seems to be safeand I like good divis on depressed shares although I also recognise the dangers too. I hope you are well and prospering and keeping an eye on Mr Scott's briefings. I attended one day out of three days of a Mello event in Derby a couple of months ago. I was impressed with the quality of Companies attending, exhibiting and presenting. It was almost like being back at work!As an aside, what do you think of TUNG?Casa.
Re: ValuableGrowth - soi/blanketstacker Hi CasaI am sorry to say I am still here, though I have sold a small amount at a cracking loss. There has been no important news here since the last profit warning in September, which is a contrast to the continued announcements of contracts during 2013. The chartists see support at 40, but if that is breached we are looking at 18!!!!The dividend is promised, but not date has been set, so I remain sceptical on that front. In general I think we may see a general fall in the markets, and a sustained stutter in the 'recovery'. Both will impact here. Also thre delayed german lincenses will now have arrived, just in time to see the German economy grind to a shuddering halt!As I said, I hold, but am in no hurry to add at this price. To be honest i am hanging on out of sheer cussedness! The next preliminary is due in late March. It may be worth holding off until then.
Re: ValuableGrowth - soi/blanketstacker I keep a close eye on SAL but haven't taken the plunge yet. It will pay a 2p dividend from memory which is about 4% but is it over its problems? When is it due to report please? Are you still holding, blanketstacker?Casa.
Re: ValuableGrowth HiStill in, maybe wrong and bought a few more today at 44.Regardssoi
