Re: Bottom Fishing The problem is Lance Batchelor who is an utterly useless and incompetent CEO. They need someone there with a bit more spark and business acumen. I see good ole Lance is trying to blame the issue on Monarch Airlines. In which case why haven't other insurance companies taken a hit?
Re: Bottom Fishing Well, the decision to top up wasn`t the best. I`ll just add this share with a bunch of others in my "dogs portfolio". Thank goodness for DTG , CCC and TET
Bottom Fishing I topped up at the start of the week in the hope that this share will pick up before long. Decent record on profit, FCF and dividend growth. It has slightly underperformed against its peers in the insurance sector. I can see no reason for this at present. I also see it as a safer bet in any turmoils to come from Brexit. But hey what do I know. Good luck to all you holders for the upcoming festive season and lets hope for a Santa rally.
Profits up Profits of £110.2m for the first 6 months to July 31st up 5.5% on previous year; interim dividend up by 11% to 3p/share and two new, faster cruise ships. Spirit of Discovery to arrive June 2019 and Spirit of AdventureAugust 2020. C.E.O says on track to deliver in line with expectations for the full year. Surging demand for cruising is the driver behind the new vessels and Saga is growing steadily but surely.

Holiday This should be rising soon, just booked a cruise!!!!!!!!
advertising with saga Anyone know how to contact them? I want to advertise in the magazineI've tried the two advertising sales numbers on their website for 2 days now, but nobody answers and there's no voicemail. Also left a message on facebook but no reply. My facebook comment has received replies from other potential advertisers saying they have the same problems.
New Management Please [link] the actual 5 year plan is Lance Batchelor really doesn't seem like the sort of Leader to deliver it. The above interview appeared Pompous, Cliched and just not appealing.5000 staff in a UK call centre, 400 "Management" and 50 people in a "Top Team". Do the Old-Uns really require this much bloody nonsense. Give people a fantastic website, a loyalty programme and niche pricing and they will be soon logging-on. The economics of a Tour Operator don't like themselves to Public Companies and Shareholders and Insurance is Mega Competitive at everything but the most specialist price points. I've now concluded why Saga is Cheap........ I've put my slide-rule firmly away until the Stuffed-Shirt has gone.
Re: Dividend Increased by 18.1% Just trawling through Metrics from the Filter in my Broker AC and Saga came up! I was seeking a business with 1.5x covered Dividend >4.5% for 2 years with a >15% ROCE.Positives + It does seem as if the Debt Legacy from Private Equity ownership is under control and falling.+ The demographic must play to Sagas' favour in the UK.+ Management seem to be acquiring meaningful amounts of the stock.+ Brand Equity exists amongst chosen niche.Negatives- Disintermediation and low cost online competition are rife in almost all sectors it competes in.- The business seems very much UK only. What about Global opportunities?- No corporate or price-elastic clients. Does Saga really have any pricing power?- Southern Cross shows how precarious the economics of "care" can be.- Is Folkestone really the most cost effective place to administer this sort of business?- No good-better-best product differentiation. - If 50 is the "new-40" could the brand be a liability for the post Baby Boomers?Opinions Gratefully sought........
Re: Dividend Increased by 18.1% They were 225 mid 2016, then again they were 225 mid 2015.Plot it vs FTSE250 (or pretty much any index) since issue, or a year (or 2) and it's significant under-performed.I've been holding and hoping - I'm no great range trader, no good at getting in and out, very much a buy and hold guy - but pretty much out of patience here. These results show limited progress - pedestrian is an appropriate word here.Mr Batchelor talks a good story, very bullish, but the numbers don't really back him up although there are good points namely the amount of cash being generated which supports the dividend hike. That is good news but 5%-6% growth in profits/earning is never going to set the world alight.... nor a share price. At about £2 is probably is not too far from fair value but it is totally reliant on the SAGA brand being sold as a 'premium' brand to a limited market, needing that market to be prepared to pay a premium price for the name. Initially it was fine but the numbers suggest they are struggling to convince that many more people very quickly.Me, I'll sit tight for a little while unless it drops more than a few pennies below 200; if it goes nowhere fast I can live with it for a little while.... but if it's going to go nowhere fast I'd rather have a huge, low risk utility paying me a much higher dividend for much less risk.Good luck but your comments sound like blind faith to me.Regards,ITDYA
Re: Dividend Increased by 18.1% B@lls. The shares have been trading for neigh on 3 years. They started at 185p and reached a high of 227p that's a 21% capital gain after fees. I'd be very happy if all my portfolio was doing as well as that. This share not only offers the opportunity to get a decent capital gain but also pays a decent dividend for those looking for an income. I'm hoping the sp will drop yet again so I can top up as I have been doing. Profits are up, dividend is up and Travel Booking are up on last year. Sell if you wish, but SAGA have a good brand name and I'm happy with their performance.Questor gets it so wrong time after time. HnL
Re: Dividend Increased by 18.1% Really? The dividend hike is well overdue - the cash has been there for a while but they've been doing nothing with it so only right and proper to return a bit more of it to the shareholders. Otherwise the results distinctly underwhelm. Nothing to get excited about wherever you look - not rubbish but solid at best. Most of the juice is still coming from insurance sales and that's always going to be a competitive market. Yes, the Saga brand has value, the grey brigade find it as comforting as a pair of M&S slippers but will they be loyal should others offer the same insurance at a lower price? I doubt it.Reading the results along side Questor's comments you'd think he had a copy of the results in front of him when he wrote the article -pretty much bang on the money. Pedestrian progress (and that pedestrian is using a walking frame!); it's going nowhere fast. This drops back much below £2 and I'm out.Regards,ITDYA, disappointed... again.
