Re: Started selling Yes, most unexpected. And very pleasing to boot.I don't really pay much attention to trades - I'd be surprised through if small trades of 100 or less would produce such a robust performance. But what do i know. Not a lot normally. The good thing with Renishaw is that you do know it will soon be back down again. You just don't know when!cheersIlliswilgig - sitting on his hands and about to go out and ignore the market. Time to chop some firewood.
Re: Started selling The rise this morning has to be based on something more than the results unless we've all missed something in the small print. The trades going though look - by enlarge very much small investors - usually less than 100 shares. I remember noticing mine and thinking it looked out of place. So I don't think it's a potential buyer building a stake. Could it just be momentum traders who don't know what they're doing?
Re: Started selling LKH,If there's a bid then I will have walked completely blindly, straight into it. On the other hand it was only 254 out of the 1254 I shares I had so not all doom and gloom. Trouble is, if there is a bid then what do I do with the proceeds? Can't exactly remember what the trigger for buying RSW was in the 1st place, 995 shares at 728p on 7th Feb 2007 is what my notes say but there's nothing obvious being sold to finance it. I know I had some Druck which got taken out but I'm sure that was years earlier...... unless I got really lucky by investing the Druck proceeds in something that got taken over for even more juice to dump into RSW.Now that's a habit I'd like to acquire.Regards,ITDYA thinking I might have pulled the trigger a tad early today. Oh well........
Re: Started selling ITDYA,"unless there's a bid lurking behind the corner"It's always possible. Sir David is no spring chicken and the tractor guy is even older. Not Charlie Munger-style older, but still fairly vintage. They must want to pass on the baton at some stage.I SO regret having sold all my RSW! Why didn't I keep a small proportion, eh?Ah well, never mind ... It's only money.[link] in mourning for his shrunken wad at the LK Wash & Valet
Re: Started selling LK "The strange thing with RSW is that I have kept ... and not thought of selling ... my (admittedly small) stake in Halma, which sells on rather more demanding ratios than RSW."A confirmed chartist at my investment group always says fundamental analysis is rubbish because you're always looking at out of date figures. I counter that it's not just about the figures but about the words - explaining where the business is heading and about understanding the business; and that charts can only tell you where you've been. The point its Halma & Renishaw are very different businesses even if they are in the same sector. There is far more repeat business in Halma, so income trends are more predictable whereas Renishaw's income is far more likely to fluctuate.
Re: Mr Market knows best? Sorry - fat thumb. Market cap is more like £1.8bn.Gus.
Mr Market knows best? Rhetorical question: When a company issues a set of results that are OK but not significantly better than the range expected by the market and then rises by more than 7% in half a day having already surged by more than 15% over the past few weeks, does this indicate that someone, somewhere knows something the rest of us do not? With a market cap of just over £1.2bn, the £ down by >7% since the Brexit referendum and borrowing as cheap as chips, might there be a possible predator lurking around in the background driving this share price upwards? Then again, we might be back at £22 per share by tea time ....Best,Gus.
Re: Started selling Classic 11am rise - looks like some Insititutional investors looked over the results at their meeting and decides its a buy. Just as well (today) that I didn't press the sell button - but tomorrow will be a different day, cheers
Re: Started selling Over 90% of sales in foreign currency and sterling forecast to fall by another 10%, looks good to me. Can any accountant out there tell me when the sales in these accounts were translated into sterling as I suspect this decision would have a big impact on how one views the numbers and the forecasts.
Re: Started selling Me too. Not massively impressed by the results albeit somewhat expected due to the 'warning'.... and yet it's right back where it was before the 'bad news' was telegraphed.11:27:10 just let them have a few (254) back at £25.795. My notes had £25 as the target and I had been holding fire but they were bought 3rd July 2013 at £15 even so can't have too many complaints. A target is a target and profits aren't real until realised.Don't worry, only a top slice, still quite a few left.Who knows? Too mysterious for my brain; can't explain it at all unless there's a bid lurking behind the corner in which case this sell will look foolish.Regards,ITDYA thinking cash in pocket is cash in pocket regardless.
Re: Started selling "one should just tuck the share certificate away in the drawer and leave well alone."Well I've sold a third and tucked the cash in the drawer for now while I scratch my head and think. Always a difficult thing I know for a chap with limited scope.Still -- I'm still in for 2.36% of my wad with RSWGames -- still thinking -- maybe go for a walk and stop thinking. I went on holiday last week and probably made more money by not thinking.
Re: Started selling Hardboy,"I decided to take my profits & sell up, joining the illustrious Mr H as a long time fan, but ex-holder."I doff my nautical cap to your ability to become an ex holder at a price some 22% higher than that at which I mesen bailed out!Sonnamabeeatch! This is like ABF all over again ... I sold that puppy at £20 odd and it promptly rose to £30 odd, though it has tracked back a bit recently. The strange thing with RSW is that I have kept ... and not thought of selling ... my (admittedly small) stake in Halma, which sells on rather more demanding ratios than RSW.It goes to show that, when one finds a really good company (such as RSW or Halma), one should just tuck the share certificate away in the drawer and leave well alone.LKH at the LK Wash & Valet must try to be more consistent in future
Re: Started selling I was very tempted to sell on the run up to these results. The strong market did not seem to reflect what was expected in the results. The results came & like games & LK, I thought they were more or less as expected without any real positives to underline the recent rise, so very surprised with this morning's reaction. So very pleasantly surprised that I decided to take my profits & sell up, joining the illustrious Mr H as a long time fan, but ex-holder.
Re: Worse than a Parson's egg ... not in... "Can you expand on the way that underlying profit has been dressed up please?"mnamna -- I read your note after posting. The explanation in that clause is plausible, but even so the drop in profits, revenue and cash is quite dramatic here. It's also true that whilst healthcare and robotics are exciting areas they are non contributors at this time. The stock seems eerily to be climbing so I have started to top slice here. I don't want to be too exposed to this level of uncertainty even though RSW is a high quality product company with good technology. One also has to remember that the vast majority of RSW's business comes from new product sales and in the event of an industry slow down there is very little to buffer the fall. It's still 3.12% of my portfolio, but I think it's going to be less by the end of the day.Games
Re: Started selling Oooh Errr,it's gone mad - just tried a sale of 750 shares and got 2516 for it. Didn't take it - but very tempting!
