Re: Placing Yes, although it was a long slow walk compared to some -- look at the Wandisco chart if you want to see a flagrant example, placing at £5.50, price now £8 - odd.And we can buy now, if we are brave enough, at just 0.2 p above the placing price, so we have a pretty fair shot. I'm holding for now.The other thing that annoys me is often the iis squeeze the company to give them a big discount, and the result is the SP falls to the placing price or below and just sits there. It's so short-sighted. On the other hand, if a company gets a decent price in the placing it gives the shares a fillip, win win.

Re: Placing Yes Chip, but the current price has been walked down from the price of the previous fund raise by approx 25%, before the new shares were issued at a discount. So, although not a giveaway it's not a bad deal for the II's - though I suppose only if Red really starts to get its order intake moving to generate a meaningful income flow!!

Re: Placing they never are -- it costs too much and they want to put the stock round their buddies in the city at a good price. the only good news is that is quite close to the current price, ie they didnt have to discount it too much to shift it

Re: Placing I understand the placing - but why were existing shareholders not given the option to participate. All shareholders should be treated equally - this placing was only open to INSTITUTIONAL investors

Re: Placing Most Aim companies will use a placing if they can as it is by far the cheapest and most reliable way of raising funds. Nearly all Aim stocks will use this method

Re: Tidal Power This is a more reasonable plot of tidal opportunity - as it it uses the 2m/s cut off - a minimum widely used by the industry[link]

Re: Tidal Power Yup. Atlantis Res are UK leaders.Areas of UK suitable for placing turbines are rel small however. Eg Wales map below. Similar small areas apply in England too ie tidal flows around headlandslle.gov.wales/apps/marineportal/#lat=52.5145&lon=-3.9111&z=8&layers=483

Re: Placing No wonder it was oversubscribed

Re: Placing I don't like the fact that as an existing shareholder I wasn't given the option to buy additional shares to prevent my holding being diluted. The offer was only open to institutional investors - this is discrimination against the "small" investor. Also the 1st we hear about it is the public announcement with the corresponding drop in the share price.Directors really shouldn't be allowed to get away with this type of behaviour!!!!

Re: Tidal Power That’s one reason why Atlantis Resources (ARL) turbines in Scotland are so successful. The turbines operate in a tidal race and do not depend on a barrage to operate effectively. ARL have just gone into full production mode following a couple of years of installation and testing. Also moving into other areas of renewable energy and waste to power projects. Worth a look.Sorry for straying O/T.TP

Placing The placing of shares (see RNS today) is not a sign of profits pouring in,indeed it is more a sign of money needed to cover expenditure/losses.IMHO,ws

Re: Tidal Power The problem is damage to the marine environment incl birds and migratory fish.Tidal lagoons will run into the same problems although not at the same scale of the Severn barrage. The Rance project is larger than most standalone turbine schemes which have an array of turbines, just like you see for wind. But current schemes are small and still in the experimental stage (c 4 turbines). The Rance turbines spin a bit faster because the array blocks the estuary so builds up a head of water , therefore runs for longer periods. Stand alone turbines depend upon laminar water flow, hence the peaks occurring mid tide 3 hrs in on every 6 hr cycle.. at high and low water slack tides the turbines do not turn. So they don,t turn on 0 & 6 hours but run in between with peak energy mid tide at 3 hours. They should be bi-directional so will generate on both flow & ebb.The Rance scheme blocks an estuary. With so many environmental designations nowadays I doubt there will be many if any more Rance type schemes. There is a very small scheme proposed for Fleetwood. So most future schemes will be collections of turbines like wind, but much smaller areas because the tidal flows required only occur in smaller areas.Hope tha helpsFWD

Re: Tidal Power If La Rance has been around since 1966, has EDF built any more tidal barages? And if not, why not?
