Motley Fool "Ricardo plc @ Sell: 944.00 | Buy: 950.00 20.00 (-2.04%)""Another auto-related stock on my radar is consultancy Ricardo. It provides services to a wide range of industries, but in 2017 saw 56% of its orders come from its automotive and high performance vehicles segments. And with these segments attracting a bevy of new contracts from global auto manufacturers, Ricardo is booming. Half-year results released this morning saw revenue growth accelerating by 9% to £182.6m. The group’s order book also grew 24% to £302m, which bodes well for the medium term as it includes plenty of multi-year contracts.Although Ricardo isn’t as profitable as AB Dynamics, with underlying operating margins for the period coming in at 9.5%, the group does have the benefit of being more diversified with major customers in the rail, energy and defence sectors. This trend should only continue as management uses acquisitions to expand into new sectors related to its core engineering expertise. With its shares sanely priced at 16 times forward earnings, a well-covered 2% dividend yield, sustainable net debt of only £31.5m and a bulging order book, I think now could be a great time to pick up a long-term winner at an attractive point."[link]

Trading Update I thought this was an odd but encouraging 'trading update' in that it was entirely focussed on order levels. nothing on trading/profits/earnings at all !

Re: What's going on? Year end was 30/6, maybe the results aren't going to be as good as expected. I would have thought the lower pound would have been good news for this Co.

What's going on? Almost 30% fall in the share price since just before Christmas – what is going on?

Telegraph- Questor Ricardo: Ricardo the British engineering company is enjoying steady demand for its expertise in reducing carbon emissions from a range of different engines, and with revenue up 32% and a strong order book the company is on target to hit market expectations for the full-year. The company paid £42.5 million for Lloyd’s Register Rail last year, and this was a major factor in helping revenue increase 32% during the 10 months to the end of April. Even excluding the extra sales from recent acquisitions, the revenues increased by 9% compared to a year earlier. Ricardo is an expert in engine design and uses this knowledge to reduce emissions from existing commercial car and rail engines. The company also has a major contract to build the engines for the McLaren supercars, with volumes steadily increasing during the second half of the year. The engineer said steady demand for work in Asia and the Middle East helped keep the order book total at £207 million, up from £152 million at the same stage last year. Management are confident they are on track to hit market expectations for full-year revenues of about £307 million, giving £33.6 million in pretax profits and 47.8p in earnings per share. The shares are trading on 17 times forecast earnings and offer a prospective dividend yield of 2.3%. Ricardo is well placed with its technical expertise in demand around the world and we remain supporters. Hold. Ricardo at 834p +11½p. Questor says “Hold”.

Re: Is it time to sell? I think RCDO is a good company but SP has been moving sideways for several months and decided to take profits. Overall return, including dividend due this month, was 40% net in just over 10 months. Decided not to push my my luck, though there may well be more upside.

Rhigos 28 Oct 2015

Is it time to sell? Since high on 1 Jun SP has come off 5.7%. Upward trend seems to have gone away. Went ex-div on 22 Oct. I am concerned about the near 1% fall today when FTSE 250 was +0.56%. Noticed FTSE 250 has underperformed FTSE 100 the last 6 months.Fundamentals look good apart from PE which high at 21.1 suggesting shares might be over priced. I think in the long term value will go up but it might be worth taking profits now. I bought in Jan and am showing an unrealised CG of 36.6%. Yield is modest at forecast of just under 2% so if SP not going up it does not seem worth holding.
