Time for an update Given that the board is so committed to delivering shareholder value, I think it is incumbent upon them now to give a trading update to reverse the continuing falls.I think this is about a failure to communicate rather than any material change in the company's prospects.Still, one man who I suspect finds this especially concerning is Stephen Byfield: he must be wondering if, having allowed his company to be gobbled up by Porta, his five per cent stake in Porta will end up having any value at all!
Re: Update I am inclined to agree: when is the next scheduled announcement?I'd reiterate that if there were any problems it would be incumbent upon them to put out a profits warning which they have not.
Re: Update I'm sorry if I have contributed to the confusion here and to get back to Porta I do feel the market has it wrong. Everything that has been announced over the past few months has been positive. Trading updates and the new acquisitions have been very upbeat and the consolidation of the new buys will add further momentum and cross trading benefits. Yes there will be dilution but this will be offset by the profits derived. There has been no profit warning or indication that there are problems save that the usual January update did not arrive which did concern me a bit. That apart its 15p for me.
Re: Update Apologies I was talking to Bowood about Optare, the bus company (OPE). Quite right, no Hindujahs here, thank the Lord! (I am pretty positive here, especially at this price!). I would expect to see another possible acquisition prior to the announcement in April, perhaps.
Re: Update For the avoidance of doubt, the Hindujahs have nothing whatever to do with Porta.I think you are getting your shares mixed up.
Re: Update I don't thnink they really care. Ashok want technical expertise out of Optare, especially the green technology. On the side they draw in a little cash through these persistent small loans, the interest rates on which are rather higher than might be expected. The whole show is run by the Hindujas. Remember, these people are so dodgy even Mandelson wouldn't give them passports!
Re: Update Yes but does the major shareholder want to see the share price fall?
Re: Update You may need to be careful there. I sold out of OPE a while back. The problems are that the major shareholder makes money by lending to the firm, and at the same time can exploit their research and development without needing to pay for it. This is a good firm with an excellent product, and even a decent workforce. I just cannot see it being allowed to prosper. (I originally bought in because I was a user of their products, and was pretty impressed). Please do be careful.
Re: Update OPE, yes. Here I can see potential, possibly to grow by developing a market for OPE and other AL products in Europe and the Middle East but I also feel there is a possibility that the listing will be removed until a profitable business has been developed.
Re: Update I actually topped up here yesterday. At under 8 I think this has value. All you just said is true, and there is an experienced and trustworthy management in place. I think we just have to wait. Growth will be by acquisition, and therefore there will be constant dilution, but value is being built at the same time. I can see no news leading this to fall further, perhaps even below 7 again. If that happens I will buy a few more. Paul Scott on Stockopedia is quite keen here, and by and large he is a decent judge of a company. Are you still in OPE?
Re: Update Thanks Blanketstacker. Do you have a view? Updates since the Interims have been positive and the more recent acquitions were trading profitably.
Re: Update According to Morningstar there is nothing due until April. The last two years we had January reports, but I think these were just made out of courtesy because there were developments to report. I should not worry too much yet!
Re: Update No January Update this year then from this Communications company. Lacks consistency.
Re: Update Getting a bit nervous about this one and more so if they don't announce by the end of January.
Re: Update It all seems very vague. Normal companies tend to have a calendar of events to which they keep.
