Re: Bargain if not basement? - dandi Hope it works out for you. As a last resort, I think AJB would pick up transfer charges, as you suggest. There is a procedure set out online whereby you provide evidence of costs incurred. Just to add that I read somewhere that AJB have done their platform upgrades and we shouldnt have to endure the sort of nonsense others are suffering with such as Barclays. It took Barclays some 6 months to transfer to AJB and we still have to settle the matter of compensation to deal with loss of interest, tax issues, inability to trade the restricted assets throughout that period, etc. The £200 figure I see in the press is derisory. As for NG, if any evidence is needed of the Corbyn and McDonnell effect look no further than the this sp along with those of UU and SSE. While having a rant, will there be any business left that doesnt have significant amounts of government or EU intervention/interference?
Re: Bargain if not basement? - dandi Thanks, AJ Bell were on my short list for the SIPP and trading account, "online" transfer actually a 4-page postal form, in progress.I will keep a close eye on what if any exit charges might be applied, II at fault so in theory none, and AJ Bell smallprint says they will shoulder up to £500 of transfer in costs. When I opened the II SIPP account last March they tried to charge a £96 advance fee twice, plus a £50 unadvertised transfer-in charge on an external pension which I managed to get stopped. Since then they have novated the administrator from Hartley SAS to Barnett Waddingham, and transformed the platform etc.My memory says II terms were a no-fault no-charge exit if you moved on within the first year. Fingers crossed.
Re: Share price "Surely the Labour leadership appreciates Corbyn's damage would be ruinous to their own party's re-election chances . "this is why Corbinistas will make sure no more real elections will take place... see castro see chávez see maduro...see putin.people sometimes forget that democracy can be lost.
Re: Share price Dandigirl, I admire your confidence. A week is a long time in politics, 3 years is .... a lot longer. A lot can change of course; and I hope you are right. "Corbyn did well at the last GE as he garnered the protest vote"Obviously we don't know why every person voted the way we did, but a lot of young people voted for him because he promised to pay for their college education. A lot of people too young to remember how disastrous the nationalised businesses were think nationalisation is a good thing. And many people fired by media who knock company profits believe raising corporate taxes and penalising greedy capitalists is a good thing; and of course there are a lot of people who vote for a certain party because they have always voted for the same party.
Re: Share price Aspace: "I wonder if Labour's tactic might be to allow Corbyn's populist, anti-capitalist message to win the next election then replace with a more moderate leader before he can do too much damage"Who would be controlling such a strategy & have the power to enact it?"Surely the Labour leadership appreciates Corbyn's damage would be ruinous to their own party's re-election chances "The Labour leadership is Corbyn, McConnell, Abbott and other people dependent on Corbyn for their positions. I'm more scared than you.
Re: Share price I wonder if Labour's tactic might be to allow Corbyn's populist, anti-capitalist message to win the next election then replace with a more moderate leader before he can do too much damage. Corbyn's crazy message is actually more appealing to the electorate than a moderate one. So let him win. Corbyn might get his way in a single term but the consequences would return on Labour's head. Surely the Labour leadership appreciates Corbyn's damage would be ruinous to their own party's re-election chances leading to another long spell of Tory leadership as we had under Thatcher/Major. Similarly the long spell of Labour success under Blair/Brown was NOT thanks to a Marxist ideology but something a great deal more moderate. But I fear Corbyn would be smart enough to know that and would act quickly as soon as he gets in.
Re: Share price FRTEB,"with Brexit the Tories are in a no-win situation, so much flak will be heading their way no matter what the outcome of negotiations. As much as I hate to say it, I'm increasingly thinking that Corbyn will be the next PM. "You're reiterating what I've said on various BBs since the General Election: except there has never been any doubt in my posts. I think the one hope the Tories have is if, having negotiated Brexit, May steps aside and gives a fresh face (please not Boris or Michael Gove) a grief time to introduce a new style; and failing that faint hope, the other hope we have is that Labour MPs forming a Government may not be as supportive of Corbyn's nationalisation, abolish profit, and double Corporation Tax policies as the unions who control the Labour Leadership are.I admire Corbyn in many ways & feel he should have a voice in politics, but I wouldn't want him with any direct control. I wouldn't even trust him to run our local chippie.
Re: Bargain if not basement? We are with A J Bell and very happy - dealing accounts, SIPPs and ISAs.
Bargain if not basement? Added another slice, could not resist when the price dipped below 790p.Might add again at this bargain level when my in-specie ISA transfer completes. Originally from barclays stockbrokers, frying pan to fire.I hope II will not be loading my transfer with exit fees, it was their fault. Their awful web rework and stupid maths and uncontactable service prevented a cash-covered trade instruction last week. 9 days to respond!!! I will make my point and if they don't listen I will also close my small trading account by cash withdrawl. The SIPP too, administered externally but presumably portable to another platform ... AJ Bell perhaps, any suggestions for an efficient service somewhere else?
Re: Share price Corbyn...plan to grab land at knock-down prices.Be afraid; the man is dangerous, and with Brexit the Tories are in a no-win situation, so much flak will be heading their way...increasingly thinking that Corbyn will be the next PM. ---------- ---------- FRETBAye, danger ahead, and the market for ng, cna etc is tanking accordingly on that potential outcome.Almost irrelevant that I personnaly don't think Corbyn will get in as I didn't think Trump or Brexit had a snowball's...The only slight comfort I have is that, historically, every time Labour's hard left mentions compulsorily grabbing land at less than market value, the electorate recoils.Who would've thought that govt bond proxy NG would become a high risk/return gamble.
Share price While you lot have been busy pining for a long lost story teller, National Grid's share price continues to be on the decline - 790 as I type - and heading much lower in my 'umble opinion. I see Corbyn is widening his focus on taking wealth away from companies and investors with his latest plan to grab land at knock-down prices. It seems to me that any company that dares to make a profit is potentially in the firing line. Be afraid; the man is dangerous, and with Brexit the Tories are in a no-win situation, so much flak will be heading their way no matter what the outcome of negotiations. As much as I hate to say it, I'm increasingly thinking that Corbyn will be the next PM.

Re: How low - lupo This gem via PI mentions Oldman Sacks, like they think we have hit the bottom and as if NG is holding up the entire FTSE ..."Turning to the London market, the top riser was National Grid Group (LON:NG.) after Goldman Sachs upgraded, although it remains lukewarm on shares in the owner of the UKs electricity and gas network with its neutral rating.National Grid was up 1.4% on the back of the note"I was within a penny of taking a fifth tranche yesterday afternoon, and still might when the price is right.
Re: Where is LK Hyman? Last known P of C... "...Chances are LKH is still here posting under a different name."The chances are absolutely zero. His style, his insight and wit are unique and can be spotted a mile away which is why this thread has prompted so many of us to respond.
