Trading Update Marshalls group seems to be doing quite well so far. I bought them off the back of their results 2 weeks ago and its been a steady riser ever since. Up 3 percent overall. Whats thoughts on this steady grower?
Trading Update Well if the severe weather during this period had a "Significant Impact" adversely on business, then an increase in sales of 10% is pretty good. Keep it going guys!
JIM MELLON Saw a clip....... one of his picks.
Finals Were very good & it seems strange when a business announces business is so good they're throwing extra money at shareholders that the share price should fall (albeit very slightly.)This seems a very well run business; doing well out of a relatively simple product.
Pre Close Trading Statement Full year turnover figures seem OK. Sales up 8%. Acquisition doing well. Outperforming market. Domestic Market has done well, the commercial & Public Sector, whilst still positive not quite so well. No real statements about what is expected in 2018 - not even the date of the Full Year Results. They've had a good record in recent years of improving margins and paying special dividends, so the Full year out turn as far as Profit is concerned may be very good.
News Trading update - no change in outlook so that's OK.Acquisition - looks good - sounds like a good niche business which fits well with Marshalls' overall business; and with profits of £4.6m they are buying it on a PE of 8.3, while Marshalls is currently over 22, so it sounds like a good price and good use of money. Hopefully there will be synergies to enable some cost savings, so the profit potential within Marshalls will be greater.
NEW ARTICLE: A FTSE 250 winner that keeps delivering "LSE:MSLH:Marshalls continues to be one of the star performers of the London stockmarket in 2017, with half-year results triggering a fresh flurry of buying interest. The landscaping and paving products company surged another 5% to match the record ..."[link]
Re: More business for Marshalls Thanks. It appears you're correct Raddish. My mistake. They're both based in the same place though. Presumably the PLC is the materials company and the building side is private. Many thanks for pointing out my mistake though.
Re: More business for Marshalls techno, I think you will find this article refers to the other Marshalls a private company, not the PLC
More business for Marshalls [link] the link works. A local firm to where I live. Their own quarries very nearby, (free stone). They bought quarries off ex neighbours of mine that I knew as a kid.Talking to some of the employees in my nearest pub, the very posh Woodman Inn, Thunderbridge, near Hudds. This company is awash with cash and have tried the nicely nicely approach to bolt ons. They've been told to get lost so are now going to try the nasty approach, whatever that means.Don't know how this will affect share price but just sharing what I've talked about with folk in the know.
Trading Update Steady progress rather than spectacular; but everything seems to be moving in the right direction.
Update tomorrow A big rise today indicates good news is expected with tomorrow's 1st Quarter update. I hope it is well founded.
NEW ARTICLE: Marshalls could spring further upside surprise "Readers who followed the example of LSE:MSLH:Marshalls chief executive Martyn Coffey, and bought Brexit-decimated shares in the landscaping and paving slabs firm last summer, will be sitting pretty today. The stock plunged 39% to a 20-month low ..."[link]
Finals Just had a quick look through them & they look good -Operating profit up 27%; EPS up 32%, dividend up 30% with a special dividend too. Strong sales & order book to start the current year. Net Cash, even have a pension surplus. At 320 PE is around 17, & yield about 2.75% (excluding the special dividend.) For a business growing at 25-30% pa I think that's good value. I guess with political uncertainty the building market reverse quite quickly; but for the time being with all the known knowns I think this is a good place for one's money.
Ex-Div Today The interim div is only 2.9p per share, so this morning's drop of approx. 9p seems a bit OTT.Any thoughts, anybody?
