Re: Monks or SMT? as a long term holder of both monks and scottish mortgage i start to worry when shares trade at a premium ,as they do now, because you leave yourself open to a double whammy when markets are weak .as well as falling share prices they could revert to trading at a discount .have lightened my holdings recently in favour of uk smaller co's funds ,such hendersons uk sm co's .still ,what a year monks have had (helped by brexit and the change of us president )
Re: Monks or SMT? Hi jsan22, Hold this because it's more diversified as you say than SMT. Heard a podcast Charles Plowden did on the trust and felt the strategy they have for the Trust is a good one for the long term.Did hold SMT and may well do again, if the Tech stocks pull back. Also hold Scottish American (BG run) for income and diversified global exposure.
Monks or SMT? Had a plan to buy into Scottish Mortgage, but wondering now if its stablemate MONKS is a better option? They have some overlap, but Monks is less concentrated, has a team with a strong record, and has actually out-performed SMT since they took over.On the other hand, I like SMT's conviction. Now that SMT is a FTSE 100 company, I realise that forces some buyers in, but might it force some selling too?Not decided yet, just appreciate any opinions either way.j
Re: what a 12 months Sssshhhhh .................. ! They continue to do stunningly well, perhaps partly due to sterling drop.. But just sit back and enjoy the ride, And well done, Baillie Gifford.
what a 12 months since the portfolio was changed we have moved to 4/24 in our sector up nearly 30% since brexit and 47% over 12 months .alas ,brexit has messed up other parts of my portfolio ,mainly uk midcaps i should add .shows the value of spreading risk i suppose
Re: Discount getting bigger Yes, just spotted the discount, 17% according to [link] global IT discounts also up so its not just Monks.I view Monks as a hold - & hope the discount narrows to sub 10%; there may also be a case for adding to your holding.
Discount getting bigger There is a lot of value in this as there is now close on a 20 percent discount it must be can't understand why it's not getting noticed m
promising new portfoloio and a very respected management......£4.7 for £4.13 .....what's not to like
