Re: Read across today? I am not surprised with regard to Next. I tried to order online, order amount was around £90, what a mess, my postcode was wrong etc etc. gave up in the end and ordered from M&S. What a difference, order arrived within 3 days everything beautifully packed clear invoice details and correct amount, that will teach me! I am a shareholder in M & S.
Read across today? "Citigroup today downgrades its investment rating on Next PLC (LON:NXT) to sell (from neutral)"
My thoughts on M&S' Website If you compare M&S website to say Boden's, Boden's website provides a setting that helps to provide a background to show the product off to its best, M&S in contrast no setting. I also wonder why M&S appear not to sell clothing and accessories as a package or complete look on its website and with an easy one-click buy button? Surely it would help customers to make a quick buy and to boost M&S' sales generally? I think the website needs to concentrate more on selling the complete look set against a better background rather than a sterile white background.
Re: Archie Quite right Goofie: "things you wear out on the down elevator after you have had coffee"My M&S clothes usually take longer than that to wear out but only slightly.
Archie Notice some subtle changes at Marks, things you wear out on the down elevator after you have had coffee, change of clothing looks a lot smarter. And you used to get a biscuit with your coffee standard, now you have to ask.I think our man is getting on with the job feeling very confident since he joined.I hold shares
Re: All change? Not more! About time that they sorted themselves out - musical chairs or what.
Too many staff.. Firstly, love MKS food, about 70% of my shopping there. It's hard not to notice too many staff on the food side most evenings at my local store. While I can understand extra staffing levels on non food, on the food side it maynot be warranted if my experience is anything to go by.
Re: Dipped in Bought some of these at £3 with a stop loss of £2.70 triggered last week. Now wondering whether to buy back or just take the hit and go away.
All change? [link] changes announced.
Will High Street be tarheted by internet retailers? A thought - as Amazon moves some of its sales through High Street stores - will we see M&S or other established retailers being targeted by internet retailers?
Can M&S gain from High Street fallout? The news about Carpetright and New Look cutting their store portfolio, House of Fraser either merging with Debenhams or seeking additional cash all poses the question how will M & S gain competitive advantage from the ongoing High Street shakeup?
Go for it Archie.... shake it all up m8 -- get the stock price back to 400 and I can say goodbye."""A former colleague of Archie Norman, chairman of Marks & Spencer, has been appointed as the head of the struggling retailers food business. The appointment of Stuart Machin, a 30-year retail veteran and boss of Steinhoff UK, the company behind Poundland, Harveys and Bensons for Beds, will renew speculation about the growing influence of Mr Norman at M&S. - The Times""Games
Re: More media speculation on High Street M&S was busy this morning - at Hedge End, anyway. Probably the sun bringing folk out, or maybe they heard I was going to be there...Really, retailers should do very well, cash flow should be great, but so many over-gear themselves, and don't mean strides and stuff.Look at Sainsbury's for example, don't they pay their suppliers after the stuff's sold? And they, Sainsbury's, get paid on the nail by Joe public, or maybe Jane. Is that the same for M&S?
More media speculation on High Street [link] squeeze on the High Street continues - interest rate hikes, business rates, car parking fees including congestion charge. Overall retailers have no option but to switch more of their sales to the Internet and close unprofitable stores.M&S store portfolio may be just too big or wrongly sized for the future - the futuremay be fewer stores and more showcase stores with Internet access for customers?
Re: Getting Silly "3% on internet will hurt amazon a little perhaps 25% might have done the trick, just a start though isn't it..."3% on sales is a MASSIVE deal, for pretty much any retailer. Many don't even make 3% margins, so it'll wipe out their entire profitability... did I not read elsewhere that Amazon margins are 1.2%?
