Re: AGM Update Almost anything is better than STAN But I have decided to stick with them - and my MABs are doing all right, thank goodness.
Re: AGM Update Hi Dandigirl, we're having better luck here than STAN! But you're so right! Especially as the shift from drink to food on each quarterly update has been prominent! Coffee is a great market for the UK; albeit quite competitive. I also think Hungry Horse do many concessions within their pubs for Costa Coffee; not sure if M&B do something similar.
Re: AGM Update Interesting observations Oxtrader. IMV it is now the job of management to extract value from what they have. No more acquisitions for the time being. Concentrate on existing assets and move towards a dividend. I would make one exception - coffee! Costa has done brilliantly for Whitbread. I happen to think it sells great coffee too - it is my preferred coffee house. There is still room for another - provided it concentrates on having top-end coffee.
AGM Update That's a really good start to the new year! Good organic growth reported there. I would probably think the relatively mild winter for most parts of the UK we've had so far, positively contributed to this. I think that it will continue to do so, especially with consumer spending on the rise.Secondly, the thinner margins. Well, despite an over 1% rise in like for like sales so far, I suppose that translates to a smaller figure in real terms.I have to say, I've been to one of their restaurants recently, I almost find it hard to believe they could get the prices any lower at their family pub food outlets as it is! So expanding their higher margin businesses (e.g All-bar-one) will be paramount to stronger share price growth. I think their bold strategy in continued expansion holds off the dividend even longer. I'm sure for some investors that might be off-putting to capitalise in M&B.
