Decent Update! We seems to have a trend upwards in sales, as opposed to some negative sentiments that I have read in the media.I like the strong market reaction bringing me back close to my buying in price. Will hold on for further growth. Not one of my larger investments but don't like to see myself sitting on any losses.Regards
Re: Barclays Capital Hits MAB "Cutting target price from 375p to 220p!"Looks like they were right - sp now 220p.R
Canaccord From ADVFN:"Pub group Mitchells & Butlers was under pressure after Canaccord Genuity downgraded the stock to 'hold' from 'buy' and cut the price target to 285p from 350p.The brokerage said M&B's reasonable return on invested capital and balance sheet strength rankings are not enough to offset poor free cash flow conversion and earnings growth scores, which result in a bottom quartile ranking on its investment screen."Nascent recovery could get blown away by rising headwinds; it is the most food-led of the pubcos which leaves its profit before tax and ambitious capex plans vulnerable to rising costs and competition."Accordingly, we move our recommendation to hold."Canaccord pointed out that M&B is in the first year of a plan to reduce the investment cycle to 6-7 years/pub from the current 10-12 years. It will spend £200m a year refurbishing 300 sites a year."
Re: Barclays Capital Hits MAB One has to wonder at Barclays' logic. MAB is profitable with a NAV above 350p. Totally absurd unless Barclays have a reason to try to get MAB's price down for, such as, a 'PUB' like bid.
Barclays Capital Hits MAB Well Barclays gave MAB an extremely gloomy outlook yesterday..Cutting target price from 375p to 220p!
Re: WILL NEW CEO IMPROVE PERFORMANCE? Well today's announcement is better news. Whilst being slow in coming it does look like a corner has been turned, at long last - my last post was November 2015! Keep up the good work Mr Urban and your team. Happy New Year!!!
Book Value - £3.40 FT gives BV ps for MAB of around £3.40. MAB is seriously under water.
Re: PUB Just noticed this at the end of a StockMarketWire piece:It [PUB] previously considered merging with Mitchells & Butlers (MAB) but terminated talks in 2008 after saying the deal was not in the best interest of its shareholders.
PUB Note the possible bid for Punch announced this morning. A takeover of MAB would be just great too. New management is needed to achieve a much better return on MAB's assets. SP decline over the past several months has been significant and the current board seem incapable of arresting the decline. Maybe they ought to consider establishing a chain of coffee shops? Not original but there are still gaps in the market.Come on Mr Urban and Mr Jones. Step up or step aside. New ideas needed and that does not include buying anything more, at least until you have made much more of those already acquired. Please.
Very strange candle Price apparently gapped down and filld the gap back up (17-20p) within 1 minute. No print on time and price that I could see. Looking around, GENL did the same, but gap up. Ghosts in the machine.
Re: Compensation costs In a case like this, does anyone know whether MAB would be protected by insurance?
Re: Bought in! If the price closes below 243 then it looks to be 228-231 next. Even that isn't necessarily the bottom. After that the 212 area becomes what would appear to be a strong support. I still have no position.
Re: Bought in! I'm watching closely, but haven't taken a position yet. I had 243 or 231 as potential targets. I'm looking to enter around those areas or if there's decisive break up.
Bought in! Haven't held these for a few years, but bought at 259.3 as thought drop was overdone on results, Missed the bottom but good to see SP already beginning to climb back. Only a few days to ex-div will see whether to retain or sell. Will probably bomb now!Bit quiet round here! That's nice.
Compensation costs As per the BBC article:[link] with the Brexit vote.. Big lows for MAB with potential costs ahead.
