Re: Guardian Article Guardian and Daily Mail hate each other. Why would former put link to latter other than to try to make them look stupid? The Paddy Power to take over Ladbrokes story is almost as old, and as frequently repeated in The Mail, as Jews taking over the universe. And probably as accurate.

Re: Announcement coming! Does anyone know if Ladbrooke's exec done any city breifings recently. I'd be surprised if they went and shocked institutional shareholders with information straight from a strategic review RNS, although I agree with the "kitchen sink" and good news band news story coming.I was surprised to get text meaasage saying Labbrooke's had clawed their way back to my breakeven this morning, so I guess there is a buyer, hopefully after one of those exec briefings, (which obviously cannot give any proce sensitive information).A

Re: Announcement coming! Although past experience may not always predict what will happen it is likely that 30th June will be a "kitchen sink" job. New management will want to put the blame for the previous disasters on the old CEO by getting out as much bad news as possible. Thus we can expect significant write-downs (Betdaq/ Retail estate etc.) which may even extend to being a profit warning. On the plus side, we might get news of a credible chairman. As for "strategic direction" , I would imagine that legislation and/or results and/or margins are going to be greater factors in LAD's profitability than any option presently available to the board.

Announcement coming! Ok, so it looks like we'll get a strategic direction on the 30th June from the new management team. GOOD! The city like it and we could be at say 150p. They don't and we could be at say 90p. Perhaps if we get some further upward momentum, I may check out at 130p and see how the news is digested. Thoughts anyone??? It'll be easy to scoff or not after the event...

Re: LAD valuation "This is THE Standard and Poors? Sands Casinos are good value? HAHAHAHHA! Forgotten about Macau have they? Ladbrokes are going to increase profits this year? HAHAHAHAHAHA! And Pay 7.13% ? HAHAHAHAHAHA! And have a share price backed up by assets? HAHAHAHAHA! At least they got the bit about Greek Football League being a slightly better bet. "Sands were such good value that they dropped circa 20% since S&P's tip less than two months ago. Are they the financial equivalent of The Daily Mail?

Re: Opportunity Should be "I wouldn't buy any more now".Following on from the last line, I was in a Ladbrokes shop near Heathrow airport last Sunday to watch the 2000 Guineas. It was closed at about 2.30 by the manager because he wasn't being sent any staff and would have to "do" a classic on his own.

Re: Opportunity I wouldn't any more buy now, but there are several glimmers of hope:1) The present government are less likely to impose additional taxes on the FOTs that LAD rely on.2) There is a strong possibility that LAD made a very large sum as a result of election betting following a half decent marketing campaign.3) Following the reaction to the new CEO, it is more likely that a decent external candidate will become chairman.4) There were grumblings at the WMH AGM about their ex head of digital taking sensitive information to a rival when he was made CEO of LAD.5) The fact that the unofficial head of racing is ex-Ladbrokes and won't want to be seen as killing the goose which lays golden eggs on behalf of his new interest.6) There have been no shouty many adverts (that I have seen) for months. On the other hand I was told a story about how the Hills board visited a Ladbrokes shop in Leeds which may be libellous. It is reasonable to assume that many LAD staff are very very fed up

Re: Opportunity I tend to agree OJ. I'm slightly ahead when adding the recent dividend. I'm holding for now but with no news on a clear strategy, store closure costs eating into profits short term, board changes and the prospect of a dividend cut, it's tempting to sit on the side lines for now isn't it!

NEW ARTICLE: Election day surge for FTSE 100 "In the end, it wasn't even close. Re: Another Loss "Only the current management of Ladbrokes can lose seven figures on the naming of the royal princess, A spokesperson for Ladbrokes say they are paying out with a smile on their faces !! Certainly not a lot of smiling from us battered shareholders "Anything good at the AGM ? At the WMH there was a complaint to the company secretary that investors couldn't go to the annual Ladbrokes circus because both companies had scheduled their AGMs simultaneously . Investors were advised that WMH would try to negotiate with LAD to avoid this happening again.

Re: Another Loss Where did you see anything referring to a loss,? All I could find was a comment from someone saying they had made a loss but not from any official source! Is the amount referred to a loss or just the amount that was paid out? Clearly there is a big difference between the 2Dene

Another Loss LSE website say that Ladbrokes lost a seven figure sum when the latest royal baby was identified. Does anyone know if they are offering odds on the most popular names that investors will call the board tomorrow?
