Andy Hornby Oh dear! I'm going to miss the EGM.In view of the HBOS horror show review today perhaps Mr Hornby will be able to borrow enough money to employ actors to recreate events live for people who can not attend. Based solely on reports on The Report, how can a company with the largest property asset base in the UK be "worth less than nothing"? The agent of this miracle is our new Chief Operating Officer who , at best, made some utterly bizarre decisions regarding borrowings. So far as I understand it, if I started kiting my debts (borrowing more money on a short term basis to cover my immediate repayments) I would have my credit card withdrawn. Which does beg the obvious question of what someone running a bank was doing the same.

Deal or no deal? [link] """""Nick Batram, an analyst at Peel Hunt, said Mr Desmond’s intervention could encourage a bidder for Ladbrokes."""""“It is contradictory in places and doesn’t really put forward much of an alternative plan, other than putting the group up for sale,” the analyst said of the letter. “However, it could just act as a catalyst to encourage others to join the fray, and a competitive situation should be good news for shareholders.” Games

Re: Ladbrokes, Trading In Line............. Three questions about Q3.1) Last years results were a shambles. The only bright spot was that ALL bookies got lucky with The World Cup. If LAD are now showing results compared with their previous numbers less the World Cup then you are looking at Q3 2014 being a complete disaster area. Am I to assume that as these figures are mostly unchanged in many areas there has been little improvement?2) If I have an bet on four teams, in a bookies, I believe that to cash out after three results I have to use the digital platform. Can this bet be represented twice on the Q3 figures as being the original (say) £1 stake to retail plus £27 running on (if I have had three 2/1 winners) to digital?3) Are Corals likely to be publishing their comparative figures?Unless WMH plan to have an EGM on the same day, see you all at the "merger" vote.

Re: corner turned I know little about rugby, and that is the way it will stay following the endless banning, bitching and unbanning. Off the top of my head I can not think of anyone on telly that I am more likely to change channels as result of as Matt Dawson. He is even worse than Nicky Campbell and Anthea Turner. One thing does spring to mind. With over a thousand outlets down under, won't an Australia VS NZ final be a bit of a disaster for LAD?

LAD, Bets UP......... Ladbrokes makes progress on recovery plan 087 22 Oct 2015There was a 17.5% rise in the number of bets staked so far this seasonLadbrokes makes progress on recovery planThe digital business grew, with revenue up 6.4% overallLadbrokes’ (LON:LAD) profits more than halved in its latest quarter but the bookmaker claimed progress was made on its recovery plan. (world cup last year)Several high-profile football results went in Ladbrokes’ favour, chief executive Jim Mullen said, offsetting unfavourable horse racing outcomes. There was a 17.5% rise in the number of bets staked so far this season compared to last year.Even so, a poor quarter had been flagged by the bookie with its interims in August and underlying profits [EBITDA] for the three months to September dropped 57% to £14.3mln.Increased machine gaming duty and point of consumption tax as well as an increase in marketing costs were blamed for the drop.An unusually strong third quarter in 2014, due to favourable results in the Fifa World Cup, also skewed comparisons.Revenues were down 0.7% in the quarter but, with the benefit of the tournament removed, rose 2%.The digital business grew, with revenue up 6.4% overall and 10.5% excluding the World Cup anomaly. An 11.5% rise in gaming growth and a 26.3% hike in the Australian business drove the gain in digital revenue.Mullen said: “It is early in our journey, but today's results reflect positive initial progress and customer traction with continued increases in staking and actives across digital and improved staking trends in UK Retail driven by football and racing.”Ladbrokes is merging with Gala Coral but there was no further news the tie-up with both companies engaged with the Competition and Markets Authority.Share Jonathan Jones

corner turned All in all there seem to be several little factors to help Ladbrokes. The National lottery re-vamp seems to be a disaster,in the eys of players, and could there been a better outcome in the rugby world cup. I can see this stock back up to the 135/140 level by ChristmasI cant recommend it a strong buy for like all other things in life its a gamble, but one that bears thinking about

Re: Citi It is hard for me to understand (as opposed to anyone else!) how the Coral Ladbrokes merger can not take place in view of the Betty Power deal being almost certain to be green lighted in Dublin. If anything, a rubbish update next week could seal the deal. On the other hand I can see the BWin link-up stalling for a number of reasons.

Citi From ADVFN:"Citigroup upgraded Ladbrokes to 'neutral' from 'sell' and raised its price target to 110p from 100p, saying the shares have now fallen far enough. It said the new target represents the mid-point between the upside potential it sees under a deal scenario and the downside risk under a no-deal scenario.Citi estimated the share price upside potential from a merger with Gala Coral at around 30% and the downside risk if no deal emerged also at around 30%."The competition authority investigation will rumble on for several more months, dampening any need to take a strong view in the shorter term," the analysts said.Citi added that the two key catalysts that could drive a more positive view were trading updates citing an online pick-up, with a rise in active customers and net gaming revenues, and CMA deal clearance arriving earlier than the bank's mid-2016 expectation."

Re: New Marketing Man "Fahy joins from Telegraph Media Group where he is chief marketing officer responsible for marketing and digital acquisition."How did that go, success wise? Are you sure that you should be using the present tense or should it read "was a chief marketing officer" ? Perhaps his first job will be to convince the markets that the enlarged company will realise enough profits to cover £1.6 Bn. debt which is surely going to rule out acquiring any other significant businesses. Using a completely unreliable back of an envelope this could be costing about £100 M per year. Any idea when the first payment funded by earnings is likely to be?
