Re: the worse day in bookmaking history so that 'fall' by Ruby has saved a lot of jobs
Re: the worse day in bookmaking history Unsubstantiated figure in The Guardian is £100M. to the industry as a whole. If it was anywhere near then LAD are exceptionally lucky to be trading tonight. Might be curtains for Ladbrokes in Ireland though.
Re: the worse day in bookmaking history got to say that was one of the most unbeleivable pieces of riding by ruby walsh on Annie Power, its as if the conspiracy theorists could have a field day with this £10mill bookie saving mistake. Could Ruby really make such a bad mistake running clear jumping 8 feet early into a fence and saving the bookies millions. you make up your own mind
Re: the worse day in bookmaking history ...and the rest. Ladbrokes may have lost £15M were it not for a favourite falling at the last. Obviously I haven't got a Scooby as to how much had been laid off but it seems certain that the major Irish bookies have still taken a massive hit on the Mullins favourites yankees. So far as I am aware the big hitters have had their big individual bets with Paddy Powers and Ladbrokes.
the worse day in bookmaking history if WALSH WINS THE NEXT TWO RACES AT THE FESTIVAL TODAY THE BOOKIES ARE SLAUGHTERED COULD TOP A MILLION QUID HIT TO LADBROOKES
Re: How strategically valuable is Betdaq... Perfect sense.
Re: How strategically valuable is Betdaq? Betdaq probably has a capital value of 0p.For it to be profitable it needs to be better capitalised than Betfair as well as have similar trading conditions. Otherwise there isn't really any point in laying or taking less advantageous odds. Clearly Ladbroke's problem is that it can not advertise Betdaq as being part of its group as it would end up skimming profits from its own business rather than others. There is no point in integrating it into the digital platform as it would just confuse everyone. As an example lets say that Ladbrokes are offering 10/1 Stalybridge Celtic beating Barrow tomorrow, and this is listed as being the odds online, as well as being printed on coupons. As a Stalybridge fan, who knows how awful we are at the moment, I could go onto Betdaq and offer 12/1 for, say £100 . If Betdaq took 4% of my winnings (90p) it will probably have won less than having people gamble at 10/1 (£10). Obviously it can not function as a pure bookmaker whilst people are offering better odds on the same platform as this could leave their fixed odds very exposed.Hope this sort of makes sense.
How strategically valuable is Betdaq? I have noticed this morning that the Betfair exchange business has been going from strength to strength over the past 18 months or so and I wonder if Ladbrokes exchange business interests, including Betdaq, might do the same in the medium to long term. Ladbrokes paid 30 million euros for Betdaq in January 2013 and since that time, Betdaq's main competitor, Betfair, has more than tripled its share price and market capitalisation owing to its remarkable growth. Disappointingly, when I read Ladbrokes most recent results announced in February, I don't really get the impression that there is much strategic focus on the exchange business, it just seems to be regarded as part of the overall digital operations even though it is growing rapidly. This is probably because it remains a tiny part of Ladbrokes business. I am aware of the enormous first mover and liquidity advantage that Betfair has, but the way the market is developing, I think the Betdaq purchase will, in the long term be seen as an excellent strategic move. I just hope that Ladbrokes recognises and exploits the growth opportunity presented by this business area.
Re: Ireland "This share will go up no matter what long term....HIll buys "Only if Gary Glitter or Prince Andrew becomes new CEO and then overcomes the objections from the monopoly commision which prevented Hills having anything to do with the sale of The Tote.LADs best chance of a takeover is from the whelk stall near Brick Lane.
Re: Ireland any timescale ?any bets ?D
Re: Ireland This share will go up no matter what long term....HIll buys or they sort cash flow/PL by trimming their sails....
Re: Ireland Isn't the population of Ireland roughly the same as the population of Birmingham? Aren't Ireland a number of years behind the rest of the UK when it comes to Internet take up? I'd say this is a smaller issue than some the company currently faces IMO and not a reason to invest or not...
Ireland Sadly for Lads, the Irish wing is in serious trouble. It has lost quite a lot of money. Many shops are small and unprofitable. Both Paddy Power and Boyles are competitors and are biting to grab the customers. Situation is so bad that Irish newspapers are speculating that the Irish division will go into administration, that is get court protection while they try to come up with a plan that will save the company.Administration, if successfully concluded, should put the company on a lower cost base going forward. With this in mind, a weak buy. coupled with the other hopes contained in the report, it probably makes it a strong buy.
Re: Divi held TS: Silly me! Thanks. d
Re: Divi held TS,You are right. But even if the new CEO cuts the divi it will be a very nice yield on Ladbrokes shares. Well, much better than my Cash ISA or savings account anyway.nk
