Re: Russia-the place to invest now ? Well JPM Russia is up 4% since I bought in on Wednesday and moving ahead nicely. As stated, I consider that this could be one of the best risers this year as Russia is changing fast and has been overlooked.Check it out !
Russia-the place to invest now ? Russia could well be the place to invest this year-Trump seems friendly with Putin-Football world cup will highlight the country-oil price has risen from lows-country is recovering from setbacks. The rush to invest in Russia by Andrew Van SickleInvestors are joining the Russian party:Russia has been out of fashion among global investors for several years. The longest recession this century, caused by the collapse in oil prices in 2014 and exacerbated by US and EU sanctions, badly dented its appeal. But things are looking up. As Steve Johnson points out in the Financial Times, Russia is now the largest overweight position in the average emerging-market fund, which holds 1.46% more Russian stocks in its portfolio than the benchmark MSCI Emerging Markets index. Why the turnaround? Its partly because the previous emphasis on long-standing favourite India looks overdone. In Russia, by contrast, stocks are cheap and the economy is slowly recovering; in the second quarter, year-on-year GDP growth reached 2.5%, a three-year high. Consumers, shell-shocked by a protracted squeeze on real wages amid a slide in the rouble, have regained some confidence. In the oil sector, companies have been forced to develop their own drilling technology as sanctions thwarted access to foreign expertise. Some domestic firms such as cheesemakers have been boosted by the absence of imported competition, thanks to Russian counter-sanctions. Corporate profits have started to climb after a long decline, says Johnson.JRS currently trading at a 16% discount to assets and with a 4.5% yield to my mind presents a great opportunity to gain from any improvement in the Russian market which one can expect this year and I have just added some shares to my portfolio as I feel a rerating can occur this year.
High expectations for 2017 Even after the recent rise, discount to NAV remains around 15% - my top holding at present. The Trump factor and oil price being the the factors to watchTad
I'm holding... Running at 18% discount. Due for vote on windup/continuation during 2017. Possibility of oil price rising and positive effect from this. 33% invested in energy stocks.
Re: 14% discount opportunity or falling ... leave this(and most things)..till mid summer next year..
Re: 14% discount opportunity or falling ... I like the idea of regular savings in this sort of IT. You benefit from the volatility (pound/cost averaging) and should be happy to see the price declining, providing it rallies at some point in the future - before you decide to sell.
Re: 14% discount opportunity or falling knif... N
14% discount opportunity or falling knife I was in this fund 3 years ago sold when Putin invaded Ukraine - at a massive 20% loss. Initially was 'happy to get out' ......... then unhappy about the loss........ now happy i sold...... this is just a roller coaster fund. Can anyone suggest a reason to re-purchase??
Re: Ukraine "lowered long term target to 133..."OUCH! lost out on 30% rise since that prediction so not your best call mate! But fair enough it did dip under 3 quid for awhile. Incidentally generally I've sold out of nearly everything now and sitting on 74% cash ATM waiting for the next correction. As posted on 14/08 I have no cash here currently just a little Russian exposure remaining via VFEM but good luck all.
Re: Ukraine lowered long term target to 133...
Re: Ukraine its a SELL here..back to 220
Re: Ukraine >>>LG: Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but tell us your predictions for 2015, and you will be judged on this.<<<VOLATILE!!...stocks do reasonable till MAY..Metals poorly(inverse)...THIS... caution could hit 160 in Autumn..
