JM at 200 I have mentioned many times below the need for reform. However, this looks more a case of papering over the cracks as most Divisional Directors are in charge, the only major change is the merger of PT and PM. I am heartened by the fact they recognise they've not been as science driven as they should have been.

Re: Over exuberance by market re electri... I was strolling through what I thought was a wide pavement in Jersey a couple of years ago and ended up on the front of a Prius which were, I found out were allowed to use this area. Just did not hear it but luckily I bounced well, another surprise to me.
Ad Blu Following an earlier discussion on here. Ad Blu is only for HGV's ..[link]
Re: Over exuberance by market re electri... "Games - They are extremely dangerous though - cos you can't hear em coming up on you." I agree, while walking on a narrow country lane near where I live, a Prius crept up behind me. I did not notice it until it was about 6 feet away when I heard tyre noise, fortunately driver aware of problem and going very slowly. There was talk about adding a noise maker to electric and hybrid vehicles.I am considering an all electric car for my next car as I now do so few long car journeys and have 'free' electricity from 3.7KW of solar PV panels. If I need to do a long journey would hire a petrol driven car. My current 3 litre V6 petrol car is nearly 18 years old but still in good nick and engine does not need topping up with oil between services (every 2 years).Goody just got email from broker company, limit order met, selling 20% of my PMO shares at a loss to cancel out CGT. Collapse in oil price had dire effect on North Sea oil profits
Re: Over exuberance by market re electric ca... ""I have yet to see one Tesla car on the road in the UK apart from on TV""R -- The chap 3 doors from me has a nice blue one, had it for almost 2 years now. Looks like an Audi A8, but better.Must have cost him a mint mind, and I can't imagine early aopters would find it worth the ROI.Being a late adopter, I'd probably be persuaded in about 10 years.Games - They are extremely dangerous though - cos you can't hear em coming up on you.
Re: Major Concern Games,"you are taking the pxss now, surely!!!"I kid you not! When urea and water combine with diesel exhaust emissions it produces Nitrogen and Oxygen if my Physics with Chemistry O Level is to be believed. The process reduces the amount of harmful NOx emissions which would be produced in the absence of AdBlueYou might find that you can achieve the same effect by pxssing into the AdBlue tank, though you might get a few strange looks if you did it at your local Shell station.LKH on the flybridge
Over exuberance by market re electric cars From Broker CSS:"Tesla's market value has overtaken that of Ford after shares in the electric car maker added more than 7%. At market close yesterday Tesla had a market value of $49bn, compared with Ford's value of $46bn. Tesla's shares rose after the company announced record vehicle deliveries in the first three months of the year."Methinks market overvaluing Tesla.I have yet to see one Tesla car on the road in the UK apart from on TV. I suppose it indicates what a basket case Ford has become.
Re: Major Concern "It's a solution of water and urea"you are taking the pxss now, surely!!!AdBlue is actually a high purity chemically produced carbamide solution dissolved in a high purity de-ionised water.Games - dum dum dum esso blue -- [link]

Re: Major Concern Is Diesel Exhaust Fluid the same thing as 'ad blue' ?
Re: Major Concern LKH,I have some sympathy with VW but not a lot. They knew they were cheating. Senior management must have know what was going on and should have put a stop to it. You cannot blame engineers too much when their objectives are to meet performance, economy and lab emission standards. I agree the regulation badly implemented. I also heard today that HGVs testing is done on the road and as a consequence the emissions are much lower than would be expected from the results of testing cars on the road.
Re: Major Concern Rhigos,"I believe VW cheated instead of using Diesel Exhaust Fluid."I feel slightly sorry for VW. The authorities chose to measure emissions on a lab test rig rather than in "real life" conditions. It is therefore entirely unsurprising that some enterprising VW test monkey thought to hisself: "Why don't we get the car to recognise that it's on a test rig? ... because the steering wheel never turns and the throttle setting remains the same for longer than it would do on the road... then we can game the engine settings to minimise NOx emissions".I understand that testing of emissions from the engines of heavy diesel vehicles IS done on the road rather than in the lab, so there was no opportunity for anyone to game the system. The pencilnecks who designed the testing method are as much to blame as VW itself and yet no-one ever seems to say that they should have been fired for sheer cockamamy incompetence in not foreseeing what would happen when cars were tested solely in the lab.Mind you, VW was also pretty incompetent for not foreseeing that that the real life NOx emissions would soon be seen to be totally at variance from the lab-condition emissions and that they would immediately get their titz caught in the wringer the moment some petrolhead spotted the variation.LKH on the flybridge
Re: Major Concern Sad but nice to there is a consensus of opinion, on this board, that JMAT is not really a buy at the moment despite broker consensus to the contrary. I would say reduce rather than a complete sell out but that is probably influenced by sentiment as have held for 14.5 years.Technical question; are diesel cars fitted with catalytic converters? My friend tells me no because soot would clog up a catalytic converter. Thought I had better Google and my friend was wrong, at least as far as modern diesel cars concerned:" The older ones dont, but it appears they are installed on newer vehicles. Also, with the newer converters, a new liquid, Diesel Exhaust Fluid, is required to be purchased regularly to keep the system operating properly. This helps reduce NOx emissions."I believe VW cheated instead of using Diesel Exhaust Fluid.
