Google & HTC With thanks to monty1965 on the IQE board regarding Googles HTC deal. The article is equally of interest to IMG holders. Google cannot ignore IMG's IP if they want to complete with Apple.[link] there is a second reason: Apple. The iPhone has always benefited, in a way that an Android phone never has, from hardware and software working in tandem together. The rise of new technologies like augmented reality (AR) will need tighter integration between the two than ever: the new iPhone’s cameras have been specifically tweaked to support AR apps. Google might decide a similar closeness is needed to push Apple at the cutting edge and take it on directly."AND THERE IT IS... If already all of the other established market share Android manufacturers, and Google are clearly not yet one of them with Pixel, are not already planning to follow the very top end of hardware cutting edges, i.e. cameras that allow for Facial Recognition technology and Augmented Reality software/games, if at all Artificial Intelligence products such as Siri, Alexa, Bixby etc aren't now becoming mainstream, it's now obvious (TO ME AT LEAST, EVERYONE TO THEIR OWN OPINION) that Google's move to buy HTC's assets/people working on Pixel is to take the Pixel phone directly into the mass market and to compete head on with Apple, using Google's considerable marketing clout. So Google has a plan, starting with a $1.1bn investment in people, to leverage its renowned worldwide brand and role out a mass market high end product. The key phrase of course for IQE is "The rise of new technologies like augmented reality (AR) will need tighter integration between the two than ever: the new iPhone’s cameras have been specifically tweaked to support AR apps. Google might decide a similar closeness is needed to push Apple at the cutting edge and take it on directly."

Apple settle-last minute (not with IMG!) techno fox sure this time it is not us but once again this court case has exposed Apple as a serial IP abuser of other companies IP, and given their past record of using other companies IP with a licence deal in place is hardly a good starting place for the markets to believe Apple when they say they have developed their own GPU and it does not infringe any IMG IP?you do not settle out of court unless you are terrified of losing the case in court?the UK markets knocked millions off of the value of IMG based on Apple reputation which has now again had a light shone on its actions.if they can do this to yet another company they can do it to IMG with our Ray tracing technology which I still believe is at the heart of their new GPU technology, but totally designed around only the Apple chipset to fully exploit this technology lead, over other OEM's.I stress again this is just my opini

Re: TIS Despite what the Tories said before the election, they didn't get the majority to implement it, and it's therefore worth diddly. I doubt they would block a takeover, the government has not done so many times in the past. They would probably welcome the distraction from Brexit anyway.

Re: TIS Sorry but who is Sir Gerald Howarth?Retired? Not sure why he's being quoted but if that's the best the shorters and Apple can do, then crack on Canyon. There is no way the UK gov can justify blocking a chinese bid of little old IMG.Of course, if Apple are fearful that all Iphones from here on will be 'tappable' by the chinese... well, that's a matter for them to sort out and if they can't do it themselves, then they best coff up the full monty for IMG and be done with it.HUB

its all about the future of GPU & AI tech techno fox Just how important is IMG and their hardware based ray tracing chipset technology and why might others gang up on IMG to get it?NVIDIA has just announced it will use AI to see 8 times improvement over their current ray tracing technology, whilst IMG using its caustic technology improves performance by 100 times over what is available today, and so the mobile and non mobile future of GPU's graphics is ray tracing, now what happens to the old AI based technologies of these other companies if the market place moves to adopt IMG hardware which all the experts agree is the future of mobile graphics, then the future of these AI platforms is also developed in the wrong place and at some point in the future they would also need to be changed and based around hardware based Powervr Ray tracing chipset technology.the stakes are very high indeed.

Is that the starter gun I hear? I get the distinct feeling that it is not long before we hear the starter gun and opening bid.Just hunch mind you.If I'm right, then there's going to be one almighty short squeeze coming. At 133p this does not look correctly positioned to me and believe 150p would be better placed as a pivot point on risk vs reward. Can still all go to rats is all bidders walk away but looking at the semi conductor market, it looks very excitable at present with plenty of step changing action required just to keep up.HUB

Re: Mail article Techno fox Then why did Apple try to buy IMG last year, and why open a new GPU centre in the same street and why would Apple need to poach ex IMG staff, unless it was to work on IMG related IP, the lies just keep pouring from this now rotten Apple, and it is now time for IMG start the ball rolling on legal action in the UK in front of a UK jury who are not to happy about the way companies like Apple avoid paying their fair share of Tax?extract from last postPhilip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, said on Tuesday that the A11 Bionic chip contained the ‘first-ever Apple-designed GPU’. He added: ‘This is a breakthrough performance in a mobile device. There has never been anything like it.’ All of the new features in the iPhone X were also powered by the Apple-designed chip, Schiller added. Imagination declined to comment. Apple declined to comment on the new iPhone X but said: ‘We began working with Imagination in 2007 and stopped accepting new IP from them in 2015.‘After lengthy discussions we advised Imagination on February 9 that we expected to wind down our licensing agreement since we need unique and differentiating IP for our products.’

Mail article They are all picking up on this possibility now!Article from Mails "This is Money"[link] between British tech star Imagination Technologies and Apple set to intensify after unveiling of new iPhoneThe row between British tech star Imagination Technologies and Apple is set to intensify after the Silicon Valley titan unveiled the new iPhone model to millions of fans.Revealing the iPhone X on Tuesday, bosses at Apple boasted their ‘most-powerful’ new A11 Bionic chip – which acts as the phone’s brain – was their first-ever such chip designed in-house.But the A11 appears to contain some key Imagination technology – setting the stage for a further showdown between the companies after a bitter fall-out.Imagination made chips for all of Apple’s phones until it was ditched earlier this year and told royalties would be wound down, with Apple deciding to make its own chips. The loss of its main client sent Imagination’s shares into freefall, wiping £500m off its value and forcing bosses to put the company up for sale.Hertfordshire-based Imagination has threatened legal action and insisted it would be ‘extremely challenging’ for Apple to design its own chips without using Imagination’s technology somewhere along the line.Analysts at Numis speculated they do expect Apple to have to pay royalties to Imagination for technology in the new iPhone, despite Apple’s boasts about it being its own work.Numis said: ’It is noted on Apple’s developer website that the A11 GPU uses a key Imagination-patented approach called tile-based deferred rendering, which would indicate it will be a royalty-bearing chip.’ Imagination claims Apple admitted to working on its own version of key chip technology while still collaborating with its British partner. It also emerged Apple poached several staff, including engineers, managers, its chief operation officer, a head of hardware and a leading designer.Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, said on Tuesday that the A11 Bionic chip contained the ‘first-ever Apple-designed GPU’. He added: ‘This is a breakthrough performance in a mobile device. There has never been anything like it.’ All of the new features in the iPhone X were also powered by the Apple-designed chip, Schiller added.Imagination declined to comment.
