Beer Crisis I see the supposed beer crisis was just a storm in a tankard
Results Old - It’s a tough one - who’s driverless cars or battery technology do you invest in to win? It may be a classic example of technology benefiting the user but hard for commercial enterprises to profit from once it scales and competition is so strong. JMAT’s battery division is nowhere today and Umicore has won most of the Chinese business (biggest users of electric vehicles). JMAT claims they have new groundbreaking technology - but they have been saying this for 10 years now. Games – I’ll stick with the concept of higher pub attendances when it’s cheap to get to and from your house in a driverless car, called up on your mobile.
Results Whenever people discuss driverless cars, the automatic comment is “will I be able to get one to drive me home after the pub!†Maybe invest in driverless cars
Results Wetherspoons as usual posting great results and stock up over 6% !
Results I shall be sticking with Greene King and Fullers as my twin exposure to this industry. If they keep shutting pubs at the rate (albeit at half the rate of 5 years ago), it’ll be a privilege to go to one. When we have driver less cars in some numbers, the pubs will be packed. Games – ever the wishful thinker of course - cheers!
Results Hi Bill, Good to hear from you again. The drop in the sp over the last two years is a pity. I am not too despondent. As much as anything I don’t judge a holding on a minute by minute sp reading, more on the quality of the product and whether it looks capable of delivering decent dividends over the longer term. Greene King looks a solid hold for me. I will have patience and enjoy another couple of pints of Abbot while watching the next World Cup matches. Frog in a tree
Results Gamesinvestor1: They don’t appear to be too terrible, yet the stocks down 8.36% – so much for the world cup. Results were indeed fine - no better, but not really any worse. The market reaction merely reflects the extreme technical backdrop that is dominating day-to-day trading currently (positioning, very thin real volumes, true conviction low, etc). For any “value†play at the moment you have to be prepared to identify the price (ie. PE rating / divi yield) you are happy buying into, or at least holding onto, and tuck them away for the duration (however long that is) - and let the market do its worst in the meantime. There will be value traps out there, of course, and always hard to spot all of these before it’s too late - but many more perfectly decent investments which will show very reasonable returns, or better, over the longer term from these levels.
Results Well I did my bit - everyone came to our house to watch the match and quite a lot of Old Speckled Hen was consumed, alongside some of those mixed IPAs. Come on England – errr I mean Greene King. Games
Results The sun continues to shine, England are playing at 3pm on a Saturday and hopefully Greene King pubs will be packed to the rafters with thirsty, nervous punters. And then celebrating long into the evening.
Results Hi Games. Agree the figures deserved better response, perhaps a balance to the OK figures and rising price last time! This is a long term hold for me as many competitors will fail before this company. May I also thank you for your enquiry 21 days ago about how to post a new topic - I couldn’t have solved that without the answer! You gained a one, I lost a hyphen, let us hope these sacrifices will be rewarded by greatly improved website soon. PB.
Results Gamesinvestor1: – so much for the world cup. I would have thought Germany getting knocked out was a bonus for the share price but no such luck. Next set of results, surely??
Results on a positive note, the dividend yield is now at 5.7%
Results Well the results have gone down like a lead balloon, or a pint of IPA. They don’t appear to be too terrible, yet the stocks down 8.36% – so much for the world cup. I would have thought Germany getting knocked out was a bonus for the share price but no such luck. [link] Dividend stayed the same, cash flow cover OK for now. Let’s hope there isn’t a fall off in sales after the competition has ended and England stay in for a couple more matches. Games
