fleet clarity I very much like this new statement about the aircraft fleet, being far clearer than anything previously. It also sounds like a forensic follow through of the long held strategy which is giving me some hope, though it would be good to know that they have done the numbers and at a fleet of 70 it should be very profitable. Surely it would be good to say that clearly and maybe they will.....?Other than that, I suspect that the "maintenance hit" referred to previously came to light from recharges when handing back leased aircraft (speculation but I bet I am right), and so we have to hope that the hand back of all the 195 Embraers will not cost a bomb!
NEW ARTICLE: Can Flybe shares ride out the turbulence? "Having been stalked by Stobart Group as well as the Beast from the East over the past month, shareholders in LSE:FLYB:Flybe will be hoping that this summer finally signals an upturn in fortunes at the regional airline. The stock was trading at a ..."[link]
Re: Topped Well done, ntm, you did what I thought I should do as I also bought a stack at low 30's, but did not as I thought the bid would go ahead and that otherwise the business turnaround plan was a floor - which indeed it is but back at the previous level.A good trade on which I missed out!!
Re: Topped Thanks for the shout out Ripley and in my mind it's, conceptually, a bit of a pity Stobart haven't been able to get this over the line..but as we don't know the figure they went too towards trying to get this done it's not a discussion that's worth having imho.. I sold a third of my position for a nice profit in mid 40's here just in case but will sit on rest and will watch to see if the board are rejecting because they are genuinely turning this business around now... and there are signs that this is turning around.. the next update will be very important to that end ... if a meaningful turn around is ongoingly visible this year then this could readily enough make 70p this year imho.. but its history of underachievement is scary.. project blackbird and the rest..
the nature of the Blackbird "This plan is focused on driving sustainable profit and cash generation and will see the fleet size reduce to an optimum level for the number of identified profitable routes and make the business demand-driven rather than capacity-led"The above was always and remains key. Those remembering project Blackbird - a real crow of a policy, but only because the overhang of supply was far too great - will know that this has long been the blight on profitability. It may or may not work, but the overhang has most certainly been a huge drag on profits for several years, so without that ....................... it might???!!At least there must be a good chance now, whereas previously there was none.
Re: Topped The spread was as big as the drop at open back down to pre offer news price.Noticed some sells and little drop yesterday.
Re: Why the wait? Flybe response:"Flybe Group plcStatement Regarding Withdrawal of Stobart Group Limited The Board of Flybe Group plc ("Flybe" or the "Group" (LSE: FLYB.L) notes the announcement by Stobart Group Limited withdrawing its approach regarding a possible offer for Flybe. The Board remains highly confident in the prospects of Flybe and believes that the Group continues to have an exciting future as an independent company, delivering the Sustainable Business Improvement Plan as set out in June 2017. This plan is focused on driving sustainable profit and cash generation and will see the fleet size reduce to an optimum level for the number of identified profitable routes and make the business demand-driven rather than capacity-led. "
Re: Why the wait? "No intention to bid statementStobart Group Limited ("Stobart Group" announces that it is not intending to make an offer for Flybe Group plc ("Flybe" Further to the announcement made by Stobart Group on 22nd February 2018, Stobart Group and Flybe have been unable to reach agreement on satisfactory terms. The Board of Stobart Group has determined that it is not in its shareholders' best interests to increase its latest proposal for Flybe above the level which was rejected by the Board of Flybe. Given this, Stobart Group confirms that it does not intend to make an offer for Flybe.Stobart Group and Flybe enjoy a range of shared interests as well as a growing franchise arrangement between the two groups' airlines and it is Stobart Group's intention to continue the collaborative working relationship between both companies. This is a statement to which Rule 2.8 of the Takeover Code applies.Under Note 2 on Rule 2.8 of the Takeover Code, Stobart Group reserves the right to set the restrictions in Rule 2.8 aside in the following circumstances:a) with the agreement of the Board of Flybe; b) if a third party announces a firm intention to make an offer for Flybe; c) if Flybe announces a "whitewash" proposal (see Note 1 of the Notes on Dispensations from Rule 9) or a reverse takeover (as defined in the Takeover Code); and d) if there has been a material change of circumstances (as determined by the Takeover Panel)."
