share price is suggesting bad news next week
Re: Good Times ahead Valid Points Claude. The EZY IOM to Bristol is an interesting one. I'm not sure of their target market there other than connectors from Bristol out abroad. It's not near enough to London to get London business traffic. But EZY rarely get it wrong so we shall see. From an airline perspective IAG have been worth looking at. I've been in and out with some success. But, as you say, Flybe can remain on the watch list
Re: Good Times ahead They had the big turnround in SP as a result of clever management last year - 13/14They have so much scope to improve because they do not have a very good niche Im afraid. Easyjet and Ryanair are eating up all the good spots and are expanding into what would have been their territory eg EZY Isle of Man to Bristol this year. In terms of service, they are poor. If you talk about the Isle of Man service, if you ever want to go to Manchester, they are frequently delayed in the morning service. How can business people rely on that for meetings etc?Their London City operation may do well. It will have to because they will be depending on it.As for their pricing, they may be starting to get keener but that also means that their margins may be under pressure.I have held them in the past, I may hold them in the future, but IMHO there are better places to put your money - our money - in the meantime. So hold or even a week sell.
Re: Good Times ahead This one has come on to my radar and watch list.I fly with Flybe quite a lot and i've noticed a couple of things. The pricing is keener and that is reflecting better load factors on the flights i go on.They appear to be embarking (or have embarked) and a bit of a PR drive and I notice little things like Chocolates as you leave the plane. They are opening a new route from our airport to Stanstead in March.Given the huge cutbacks made last year on their regional hubs and everything else going on i've a feeling results are going to improve substantially. So, at this price i'm seriously tempted.
Good Times ahead This has to be a very good start to 2015 for Flyb, as i would imagine there will be many flying to Scotland for the New Year Celebrations, and their MRO contract will be very rewarding. The company has gone though a period of change, so the poor results had to be expected, but saying that, they have a few tie ups now, better control over finances and a good team, that could pay real dividends in the futu

Re: FLYB Update Very Solid..... Scotland could slash air travel taxes under new UK deal27 Nov 2014 - 13:25LONDON, Nov 27 (Reuters) Scotland is likely to slash taxes on passengers flying out of the country from next year following a new tax deal with Britain, giving Scottish airports an advantage over rivals south of the border in England. The Scottish Parliament was on Thursday promised new powers by the UK government, including control over air passenger duty (APD). That would allow the majority Scottish National Party (SNP) to fulfil its pledge to cut or even scrap the tax in Scotland. ...Britain's APD is a tax of between 13 pounds ($20.5) and 194 pounds depending on flight distance and class of travel, which is charged on each passenger leaving the country.A change to the tax on flying could make travelling out of Scotland, as opposed to England, cheaper for passengers, encouraging English people to travel north of the border to fly.The tax has been widely criticised by airlines and holiday companies, which argue the charge has a negative impact on the economy. They welcomed the prospect of a change to charges in Scotland."Removing Scottish APD would see passengers rushing across the border to avoid paying the punitive tax at Newcastle, Manchester or any other English airport," said Willie Walsh, the chief executive of British Airways-owner IAG ."Who could blame them a family of four flying to the U.S. would save 276 pounds in APD by heading north." Scrapping APD could boost tourism in Scotland by 200 million pounds annually, according to the airline group.Regional airline Flybe agreed that Scotland could benefit from more flights if the tax was reduced."The move would not only encourage airlines to provide new routes and enhance travel for Scotland's passengers, but it would also significantly boost economic activity and connectivity for Scotland," Flybe chief executive Saad Hammad said.Scotland's new powers will not be implemented until after a UK parliamentary election in May next year, in a move which amounts to the biggest transfer of powers to Scotland from the United Kingdom since 1999 when a Scottish parliament was set up.The changes come after Scottish separatists lost an independence vote two months ago.(1 US dollar = 0.6344 British pound)
Re: FLYB Update Very Solid..... I'm surprised that they haven't had enough of own label dealings with Scandinavian businesses though SAS may be a bit ,more interesting than the Finnair disaster. At least it gets some planes off the ground.I am still depressed about the Flybe business model in the face of the Easyjet and Ryanair operations, not to mention others like Monarch, Buzz etc. I just don't see the room for Flybe to fit in AND to operate much more effectively than they do now by achieving the necessary increases in seat utilization, value per seat sold etc. I would like to think they can, but I don't really. As such, I wouldn't even think they are a Hold and there are ,many other places which offer better value and growth opportunities, even in the air sector. As for house broker estimates, we know how valid they can be.

Re: I C Downbeat assessment For FLYB claude,A good summation of the pros and cons of FLYB. Airlines are noted for their fluctuations in their performance and consequently their share prices reflect this. The management are new at FLYB atlthough quite experienced and should be given a decent chance to turn the business around. I think they have made a good start and maybe there was more wrong with this Company than they realised. I still have a holding here and will be monitoring performance against other opportunities that arise. If there is something more appealing, I may well sell and hope to return before any significant improvements have had time to show a positive result. It's something of a gamble but I believe there is some time before the changes made by management will show on the bottom line. Casa.
Re: how can anyone fancy these Buy both and get the best of both worlds?
Re: I C Downbeat assessment For FLYB Good news - top management cleared much of the bad news in the recent report. Bad news - still got lots of unsuitable planes.Good news - Flybe has plenty of room for improvement - % seats used, cash per seat sold.Bad news - I dont see why they will improve that much in these areas. The experience of flying Flybe is not a pleasant one. Easyjet - no matter how crowded sometimes - is much more efficient, cost effective for the user, gets you there faster and gets you there with a lot of confidewnce. Flybe service is modest at best.Good news - the opening up of the London City routes. This is their big hope. We will see how well they do there.I think that much of the growth in the SP is in the past new. I think the price will drift lower for some time. Cant see a reason to buy, in fact probably sell and get back in later. Weak sell definitely, possibly strong sell.
