Not such bad decisions.... Its looking more and more like the sale of Fogl and the decision to concentrate on infrastructure is not so absurb as we thought....Nobles new direction confirms that it see's the Falklands as a future low cost addition to its future supply.....Good news for the North Falklands Basin...and the future decision to go ahead with production. 2016 loks more and more like the kick off for Fkl. the way what a great price to get into Fkl!!! GLA.
Re: Crazy thought...... If preparing for big expenditure (e.g. FI construction work), then shareholders would probably have moaned if the divi was continued and then FKL asked for funding through a rights issue.A rights issue is still possible, but presumably correspondingly reduced.I do feel, however, that the announcement to suspend the divi might have been accompanied by a comment that would have given us reason to believe we're in good hands.I still say that if I had wanted to invest in works of art and ferries, I wouldn't have chosen FKL.
Re: Crazy thought...... Agree basically Ovets47,In my opinion absolutely no possibility of FKL making any direct investment in an oil exploration company either in Falklands or elsewhere. In fact I expect the company will sell its remaining stake in FOGL at what it feels is the best time which may be in the present exploration cycle,I doubt if it has been decided. This is not an oil exploration share.Presently only 40% of its profits come from its Falklands business and none is presently derived from oil prospecting. If the present exploration round brings success that I think it will look to see what on shore oil service development projects exists especially based on its existing businesses and development land holdings.Failing that I think it may look to find another add on business perhaps to extend the offer of its MOMART business. While I do not agree that cutting the divi is the right policy to attract investors;I do agree that the problem the company has is that with its small size it below the radar screen of most investors, and especially for small cap investment funds to invest in and perhaps with an annual profit of £4m and increasing year on year it might attract more investor interest.
Re: Crazy thought...... I doubt that the BoD will use the money to gamble.Much more likely they're starting to prepare for serious construction work on the FI
Re: Crazy thought...... I see your point, but it only takes a bit of hype to go from 8p to 16p, then you have 100% profit. And and these prices, why risk money in FOGL, when you can pick up RKH for such a bargain price.....they're a possible investment opportunity too!
Re: Crazy thought...... Hi Simond83.I just can't see any sense in selling a chunks of Fogl, who to my mind is the best play of all the FI explorers, to buy a chunk of either BOR or ARG.
Crazy thought...... They've owned a lot of FOGL shares in the past and have gradually sold down, but made a tidy profit on their investment. What if they've stopped their dividend to make sure they have enough funds to make a sizeable investment in either BOR or ARG? With both of those shares under 8p, it wouldn't be too hard to make a big investment and ride the Falklands wave as the NFB basin begins to get more active.Just a thought
Re: Bit of a bummer.... Maybe he intends to take over PMO and form a JV with Noble. That would speed things up for the FI Oil province development.I am all in favour º, but then again pi gs may learn to fly. ¼.the way I hold FKL, RKH, FOGL and PMOKR dif
Re: Bit of a bummer.... 2 of the main things I used to say were:1. FKL has an interest in the FI exploration activities, so if that comes good, FKL would benefit directly.2. FKL pays a reasonable and regular dividend. There isn't much else left to say now, so I hope they've got a real show stopper of a plan to announce, or else it looks like FKL is a complete write-off. If I'd wanted to invest in antiques and a ferry company, I wouldn't have chosen to invest in FKL.
Bit of a bummer.... Gobsmacked like everybody else......the only positive i can take out of this is that.......there must be some spectacular buisness opportunities opening up in a new oil province we have a private equity banker as a Chairman...and the statement below looks like he is going to borrow on future earnings to reinvest in new opportunities in FIC and here in the UK. We can only hope!!!........I will give it 2 years to see the future direction of the company.Following my recent appointment as Chairman I am now keen to develop secure foundations for the Group's long term success with a focus on growth through investment and selective acquisitions, leveraging the Group's strong cash flow and robust balance sheet.
Re: Is this fogl or fkl?? I don't understand it too. Paying ( increasing ) dividends is the ultimate goal for a LT holder. Dividends make, LT seen, most of the value of the total return. It is money we can freely spend on what we want. Investing further or spending it.We can only hope they have a VERY good reason to suspend div payments.greets,
Re: Is this fogl or fkl?? The onus is now on the management to deliver in terms of improved return on its assets to compensate for the fact that this share will not be bought by dividend income investors. ---------- -------TX - I don't really understand your point.Fkl is a business that has been around for a long time and makes money. It is not some wildcat exploration co or dodgy start-up.It makes money, a portion of which should be returned to investors via dividends. If it does not intend to pay dividends, then it's a pure punt, like fogl, and should not be regarded as an investment. Merely another AIM casino outfit. If it is in such excellent financial shape, why cease with divs?At the very least, there should be a detailed reason as to why this decision has been taken.Very poor investor relations.A huge black mark against the bod.
Re: Is this fogl or fkl?? There is no reason to assume that the trading & financial position is other than that indicated in the update. So we need have no concern regarding this aspect of the business,it is in excellent financial shape and likely to remain so.The trading results at MOMART were expected to be down due to exceptional performance the previous year due to a large number of exhibitions,Falklands improving in part due to investment and Ferry business flat. The onus is now on the management to deliver in terms of improved return on its assets to compensate for the fact that this share will not be bought by dividend income investors.
Possible new direction for FKL With the new Chairman now in place could it be an opportunity to pick up an oil company for mere pocket money. With his contacts in the financial World I am sure he has bigger fish to fry than a small island domestic supply company.
Re: Is this fogl or fkl?? getting rid of the dividend completely is shocking for a company that was a consistent and reliable payer. if they had slashed the yield from 4% to 1% that would at least have given shareholders something to hold on to and freed up much cash for investment. i wonder if there is more to this drastic action than meets the eye.
