Re: Croydon Tram Disaster Perhaps all buses and cars and trucks will have to be so modified too? More sharp bends on roads than on tram tracks IMO.
Croydon Tram Disaster Seven people were killed and 51 were injured in Croydon this morning on a tram run by First Group shortly before it arrived at Sandilands on its way to Wimbledon. Apparently the tram was travelling too fast to take a bend; it is not known if the driver was negligent or merely fell asleep. The speed limit for this section of the track is 12 mph; the tram was travelling at well in excess of this when it turned over,This is a tragic accident for which the company cannot be blamed, but it seems likely that all trams now have to be modified to prevent excessive speeds when approaching tight bends.
Trump and Firstgroup 15% corporation tax. Doesn't sound so bad for firstgroup !
Nice rally in recent days In recent update National Express had a lovely boost from forex on their foreign business and so I expect the same from FGP. ( maybe the market the same hence the recent rally... or maybe there is other news coming soon?)I expect UK market conditions and US to be decent and Tim O Toole has said that the heavy investment in fleet etc load has now been done and so profiutibility should be improving now and going forward. I rate this as at least a hold right now.. and probably even a weak buy
Depressed This share is doing a good job at keeping up with its usual trick of going into reverse when the market is flying high.Come on board give shareholders something to hang on to, a tiny dividend promised at year end maybe, is it too much to ask for 4 years into the transformation plan? I'm not expecting it and clearly the market isn't either. I am expecting a dividend at the end of 17/18, but not getting ahead of myself.Unfortunately this company has historically operated on such tiny margins that any issue (bit of wind, rain, terrorism in far off place, disgruntled drivers, low oil price, roadworks, snow) will pretty much destroy the results. Let's hope that Tim's promise of a signigicantly better performance this year comes true. There is also now far too long between results, leaves a big gap between knowledge of investors and company. Leaves you feeling like a mug investor who could be buying into something that everybody in the company knows is going belly up.
Re: I rate Alistair Strang It has been a long hard road with this share. A real poor choice by me and an average of £1.50 which shows my incompetence! What I should have looked at closer was the high debt levels and the minuscule margins in the industry meaning profit is easily wiped out by weather, bid costs, lack of drivers, oil prices etc etc. However if after the investment made we finally get some positive cash flow this year and continues into next then maybe we might just reach my average.
I rate Alistair Strang ...and follow his FTSE Technical commentary updates via II closely. Him picking out FGP for a potential rally has made me pay some attention to this 'sleeper' for a change - I hold a bunch of these in my ISA at 120p average - as it has been a DOG but I think it's turning the corner and will have it's day in 2017 or before...We're close on his first 108p target and so I cut and paste here from the previous article posted by II just to reinforce what he said: FirstGroupAmongst many shares, we've chosen to treat the fake upward movement before the Brexit drop as deliberate "enhanced market control" rather than actually part of the ruling trend. As the blue line shows, FirstGroup (FGP) has once again moved above the downtrend and it appears to be through honest trade forces, giving an interesting near-term prospect. Near-term, it appears anything above 108p should prove capable of growth to an initial 118p, with secondary a surprising longer-term 138p.If any attempt is made to spoil the party, the share price needs close below 'red', currently at 91.7p.
pyueck - great post. If nothing else, you've made me feel a little better about things!
One of my worst decisions in life was probably buying these shares. Absolute misery. Commiserations to everyone who's in the same boat.
