Re: Squid RNS .. IKEA Contract .... Market responded up over 50%.Wonder if it had a lot of shorts ?
Re: Squid So Gatemore buy a big chunk of share capital, then lend the money to company at 10% per annum when the interest rates are close to zero! How can that be fair in terms of corporate and ethical standards?nk

DX Group and Menzies call off merger talks DX Group and Menzies have announced that negotiations regarding a potential merger between DX and Menzies Distribution division have been called off.In a statement DX Group said that they had been unable to agree suitable terms and had therefore decided to continue with its plans for business transformation on a stand-alone basis. For its part, John Menzies issued a statement in which it said: the John Menzies Board does not believe it is currently possible to agree a revised set of terms with DX for the combination which would be in the interests of John Menzies shareholders.
Re: Squid InkyWhy are shares still suspended if there is a formal end to the merger talks?Presumably Gatemore, having won an improvement in terms, was not prepared to re-revise them and be seen as backing down. So, does Gatemore have a better idea than Menzies, or have we just lost out?Or does Menzies have a better idea for its logistics business? After all this time being patient it is hard not to feel let down. The new executive at DX. is?Results towards late Sep, who cares, we have had an abrupt update, shares are suspended ...
Re: Squid I know it is all seems very "fishy" here but the idiom is "a damp squib" not squid!A squib is a type of firework.......
Re: Squid Looks like the deal with menzies is off.shares still suspended . ( is there a time limit ? )
Re: Squid What a shambles! As usual, private investors have been kept in the dark for a protracted period and treated like s***. Meanwhile, "DX's major shareholder" (Gatemore) has been put in a privileged position by being kept in the loop, which doesn't seem right to me.Anyway it seems like Gatemore has finally got its way regarding board appointees, but in the process it has helped scupper a great deal for long-suffering PIs looking for some near term relief. There is still hope I suppose: the parties seem to be so unpredictable and disorganised, I wouldn't be surprised if they start talking again! If not, then at least Gatemore must have calculated that a reformed DX will be better off on its own in the medium to long term, and that the share price should be on the up when the suspension is finally lifted. I just hope they know what they're doing......PS It'll now be interesting to see what happens to Menzies' shares, which were given a fillip when the merger talks were first announced: theoretically they should now drop back by 5 to 10%.
Squid The word Squid and damp comes to mind. Lets see where we go from here then.
Sumer time and the silence is deafening, our stakes have been trapped in suspense too long.Come on Menzies / DX where is this deal propsectus we are all waiting for, Summer is running out. I get that the old board are grumpy but that's what you get for presiding over a collapse, take your gold watches and move on. At least let's have an update from either board setting out some expectations of timings, and something to confirm Menzies are going ahead rather than curt and confusing "we have noted events" blah.Or are we now slipping into the August holiday period when traditionally nothing much happens?
Re: What does that mean Yes, strange and confusing wording from both companies, but at least Gatemore (now a 21% holder in DX) has said that it is "pleased with the moves".I don't see anything negative here as regards the merger. If anything, with two DX managers out of the way, it's probably positive, because what holds things up at the end of the day with these mergers is very often wrangling over the allocation of senior management positions. So the merger can't be far off now, surely - there's not much left of the summer! (I assume "summer" means "by the end of August".
