NEW ARTICLE: Dunelm profits plunge triggers fresh dive "LSENLMunelm unravelled to a four-year low Wednesday, after a half-year profits slump triggered City downgrades. Despite ramping up its online business, a drop in like-for-like revenue at the cushion to curtains chain is disappointing, and ..."[link]
Re: recent selling I agree the retail market is difficult & opportunities for expansion into new locations are limited however Dunelm does throw off surplus cash and at a modest multiple of earnings which will perhaps be 50p this year does have attractions. It is a well run business.I quite like visiting Debenhams, they certainly try hard but that huge leased expensive property portfolio seems a worry if I was investing!
Re: recent selling Tough call, it may pick up short-term. But longer-term, the "narrative" has changed, They are now of a size where future growth will come a lot harder, and, as I found out recently, online there is already a lot of competition there already with cheaper but equally good products. The weak pound doesn't help I'm sure. For these reasons I'm out....I prefer the DEBS story in retail short to medium term, though all bets are surely off in this sector!
Re: Bottom forming at 6.70?? Good comment made there. My partner has her own soft furnishings business and buys a lot of fabric and directs her clients to look in DNLM to buying fabric hence the interest in DNLM.Think if they can address the online side could be viewed differently by the market.atb
Re: Bottom forming at 6.70?? The basic problem for DNLM imho is the lack of visible competitors-and hence comparitors. They may be 'gaining share' but in a fragmented (declining?) market where their nearest competitor is unquoted John Lewis, I'm not sure that tha counts for a lot.Not a holder-but think there's been a bit of an overreaction.
Re: Bottom forming at 6.70?? Hi Musker ron,Yes, I can understand your trade and better prospects elsewhere in within that time frame. If your like the company and a longer time frame then getting more interesting.I thought most of the news was in the price about how they were addressing the softness but seemingly not but I am keeping the faith that this is a transformational year on their multi channel online presence with the recent purchase. If it keeps falling the yield will help.atb
Re: Bottom forming at 6.70?? Sold this morning at 6.32 at a loss. Just cannot see this getting back to my buy price over the next 12 months at least. Retailers are going to find it tough over at least that period. Better prospects elsewh
Re: Bottom forming at 6.70?? Base forming was doing so well around those levels..............before today's update.Quite a drop on the open to 6.14 - 6.23 range.Interesting on 5yr weekly there is support around 6.23 / 6.10 / 5.93If we trt another test of those levels may add sub 6.10

Re: recent selling Re "D'you reckon they're holding for income or capital growth?"Hard to tell, I'd guess they're a mixture of income funds, trackers and closet trackers though, with maybe the odd growth fund in there who've been holding for more than three yearsOn the whole they're sitting below the threshold they need to declare any movements so you'd have to trawl your way through all their funds to find out the exact storyFor example, in August 2016 Royal London held ( ? ) 762,000 shares in their main Income fund, which still leaves ~ 4.5 million of their shares ( as reported by the FT ) unaccounted forSee [link] comes a point in time when it's just too much effort to collect data. After just five minutes, I just reached that point !
Re: recent selling Thanks BB.Good cross-section of instis.D'you reckon they're holding for income or capital growth?
Re: recent selling Can't guarantee it's 100% accurate, but [link] lists the II's
Re: recent selling Apart from the c.52% family holding, anyone know who else owns sizeable amounts of shares? Can't see anything in the last annual report.Tia.
