Current price Looks like my selling prior to going ex-div might not be working out, though as I said previously the income tax currently being applied to dividend income does knock the net payment down somewhat, so it's still wait and see. Will be back in later and I still have £2k invested anyway.
Re: Sell before dividend or not? Hence my confusion. Thanks for correcting me.
Re: Sell before dividend or not? You are correct. The record date is an administrative matter that can largely be ignored in terms of div payout. 'Tis a common source of confusion.
Re: Sell before dividend or not? Management speak was a bit confusing, but my understanding is that "on the register" refers to the record date. Hence today is the ex-div date, as indicated in the ii financial section, and if you are holding shares at today's open then you will receive the divi. Selling today will not alter that.If someone knows otherwise, then I will stand corrected.Callun
Re: Sell before dividend or not? Sorry I did get my Thursday and Friday confused in my last post. However this is an extract from the Company report of Feb 10th and it clearly states that the dividends will be paid to those on the register at close of business 4th March 2016 - which is tomorrow. Therefore any ex-dividend drop will only be forthcoming from the next day's trading - which is next Monday."The Directors have declared an interim dividend of 6p per Ordinary Share and a special dividend of 31.5p per Ordinary Share for the period ended 2 January 2016. This equates to an interim dividend of £12.2m and a special dividend of £63.9m. The dividends will be paid on 24 March 2016 to shareholders on the register at the close of business on 4 March 2016."
