Annual Results Well, that's another set of good results from Cranswick, which were better than I ( and the city judging by the 6% price rise to ~3350p ) expected.Growth of ~20% may be hard to replicate in the current FY, but I don't think we look particularly overvalued at the moment, so will stick with what I've got.If only I hadn't sold a quarter of my holding a couple of years ago, since when the sp is up ~50% ... ho hum.
New chicken factory gets green light The planning application was approved as expected - decision was out on 19th April: link to minutes of April planning committee below[link] full application log of all the documents is here[link] Q3 update''Plans for the new primary poultry facility in Eye, Suffolk continue to be developed, with construction, subject to receiving planning approval in the coming weeks, expected to begin in quarter one of the next financial year. This class-leading facility, which is scheduled for completion in late 2019, will double existing capacity with further room for expansion. The facility will incorporate the highest animal welfare standards and latest generation production techniques and equipment to drive operational efficiency gains.''The SP has moved up from a low of 2750 ish in April. (My limit order was 2800 so bought at that price)Im not sure what impact the Sainsda merger will have on big suppliers like CWK but presumably more pressure on margins. This new factory when fully open can process 1M chickens per week - as part of their poultry strategy. Im reading up on chicken recipes!Prelims out 22nd May.SG
Trading Update Another fine update from Cranswick today. Judging by the tone of the update they havn't been able to pass on all the rising input costs, so a LFL revenue increase of 21% will probably give a slightly smaller profit % increase, but that looks likely to be in the high teens.Add in the extra revenue ( and profit ) from the acquisitions and it's looking pretty good.Did I really reduce my holding here last April ? That'll teach me to be more patient !
Re: Ripper You cannot get them all correct Bernie.Yes, Cranswick are a good and well run company.Reg
Re: Ripper Cracking set of results, which make my decision to reduce my holding just over 12 months ago look pretty average !
Ripper Nice to see our favourite pig & chicken-monger doing the business again.

Re: Trading Update / CCL acquisition Just to say that yesterday for me was the day when Cranswick became overvalued, and I sold my stock. It has an enviable track record. Maybe the diversification into poultry will prove successful. Good luck to all who have kept the faith. I would gladly become a buyer again but at a lower priced entry point!
Re: Trading Update / CCL acquisition WSI sold ~25% late yesterday anyway on the basis that the rise didn't make much sense, and we were looking fully valued even before that. If they can make money on poultry then I have no problem with a bit of diversification though, and the acquisition will be earnings enhancing straight away, so it was decent, but not earth shattering news. It's certainly one of the weirdest short term sp movements I've seen in the last few years on such a dull, but well run company !
Re: Trading Update / CCL acquisition Benrie - At £25+, I would not hesitate to sell half my holding at least. I do not see a good reason for the hefty rise in the share price. Buying a poultry business is not necessarily a good move. Make sausages yes, make plenty sausagesyes, and let the farmers produce the cheap meat, currently at a loss.IMHO,ws
Re: Trading Update / CCL acquisition Oh aye, absolutely.I've tweaked my holding here two or three times over the last few years, but when I read the RNS this morning I just thought "Sound, but not spectacular news", and then the sp rises by ~ 16%.If that happened every time a reasonable RNS was issued on one of my holdings I doubt I'd be bothering typing this !
Re: Trading Update / CCL acquisition Well the market certainly likes the CCL acquisition. As a certain Mr JP Morgan said "I got rich by selling too early".But on the other hand, run your winners and cut your losers.Tricky business this investing lark!
Re: Trading Update / CCL acquisition Bloody phone*present = pleasant... and now the sp is up nearly 4 quid today to £25.60. All a bit strange really
