berenberg still positive..... .....says buy and targets £14.5

Damp Seaweed 30 Nov 2017

Re: Big Drop Well the drop seems to have continued all day and nothing at the AGM seems to have calmed nerves.I added to my stake earlier today, so obviously very much in the red currently..I think I will have to sit on my hands a little while and await a confirmed reversal before adding any more.Tough day IMHO

Re: Big Drop Thankfully pet owners can't get their animals treated on line, so I don't see vets being hit with the shift from physical shops to internet, although they are subject to the business rate and minimum wage pressures. I note the price has already recovered 25p.

Re: Big Drop a common theme across retail in all its formats is increasing cost pressures going into the business and difficulty passing on these costs to the consumer (which CVS intends to do ) .the boss is pointing out that the goldilocks scenario is coming to an end .nevertheless this is a good business which is a hold for now

dazurtrader 30 Nov 2017

Re: Big Drop The report states that there is a little uncertainty (a rare and to be valued quality amongst company statements) over future rate of profit growth due to increased cost of employing vets. The fundamental driver of growth over inflation is the desire for urban pet owners to lavish whatever it takes to keep their animals in top condition. This will only continue and will be pretty recession proof. There have been 20 more surgeries purchased for £1M a pop bodes well.I've used this drop to add more shares. This is not a falling knife but a golden opportunity for a strong long term investment.BUY

Re: after a run like this.... I agree Valeite. I bought in early January and it has delivered a 32% growth since then. Happy days, which should continue for some while. As you say people are spending more and more on their pets, whatever the economic fortunes of the general society.

valeite 29 Sep 2017

after a run like this.... ....up from £8.3 (nov '16) you get a bit nervous but yet again CVS has delivered .clearly the welfare of our animals is recessionary proof (for now) /and we've found plenty of opportunity to grow the business profitably/brexit not too big of a worry if we're still allowed to bring in euro vets .'outlook very promising' so I remain a big fan and it's a solid hold for me..

Re: Bounce Back - Role of broker? May just been due to another practice purchase?

valeite 02 Aug 2017

Re: Bounce Back - Role of broker? well some investors got whacked for sure in the sell off ..that was a helluva sharp 'v' shaped recovery

dazurtrader 02 Aug 2017

Bounce Back - Role of broker? Only a few days ago the broker caused a sudden SP drop and now the price is above their revised SP target and the sudden low point. I wonder if they facilitated some unlucky private investors to sell at the low price and then some lucky ('very well informed') people to buy and see a good profit a few days later? More like SP manipulation for insiders than good advice for us private investors????Cynical moi? Surely not!

dazurtrader 31 Jul 2017

In For The Long Term CVS is more recession proof than many businesses and is steadily building turnover and margins. Not a share to 'get you rich quick' but over a 5 to 7 year period will see your money at least double and, more likely, triple. A core long term investment for me.No need for any investor 'wobbles' on this regrading.

valeite 31 Jul 2017

doing ok trading update is good and the business model is trundling along at a fair old pace....promising outlook....but after a period of outperformance Peel Hunt has reduced CVS to hold (from buy) and set a £13.5 target so it's a solid hold for me .

Re: cvs Perhaps they should hook up with Dignitas too? Crematoria combined with euthenasia...... plus the strength of the Swiss franc.

Re: cvs ''When it all ends they have 3 animal crematoria as well. Several of their directors are directly or indirectly linked to the (human) funeral business and so this should also be lucrative avenue to build on. '' --- My post March 2015!To elaborate further:CVS now up to 7 animal crematoria (only represents 2.4% of turnover but gross margin 82.4%!)Mike McCollum (NED on CVS board)'' is chief executive officer of Dignity plc, a FTSE 250-listed provider of funeral services. Like CVS, this is a multi-site, acquisitive service business. As finance director he was a prime mover in the 2002 leveraged buyout, the whole-business securitisation in 2003 and the IPO in 2004. He became chief executive in 2009'' - from p29 of 2016 AR.Richard Connell (Chairman) formerly chairman of Dignity plcNick Perrin (Finance Director)''Nick had been Finance Director of the Co-operative Group Specialist Retail Division (which included responsibility for the pharmacy, travel and funerals businesses) '' CVS website. As well as CVS crems via MiVetClub they also use PCS via Vetshare. (slides 13,19,20 of 17H1 presentation)PCS have more coverage www.pcsonline.org.uk/pcs-locationsI doubt it can ever be more than a minor component of the overall business but all cross-selling helps.I am still holding and there is still momentum but perhaps too pricey to add more atm.SG
