Results Not a bad set of results but I think they could have been a bit more generous with the dividend increase. Still, the yield remains attractive and it's good to see a bit of geographical diversification.Mm
Re: 4.7% fall - why? Thanks bernardhy - let's hope so!
Re: 4.7% fall - why? I,ve seen this before, with other shares. It,s often referred to as "uncrossing". The price should return to normal in the early trades on Monday.
Re: 4.7% fall - why? I was wondering this as well
divi divi not even declared yet so that is not the reason for the drop.
4.7% fall - why? Anyone have a clue as to why CSN fell so heavily on Friday. i don't think it's ex-divi day - or is it?
Re: GOING NOWHERE AGAIN... Yes; but still a very good div - may be worth balancing taking profits with waiting until nearer Ex div date (final) - early april - or after to see if there is a recovery after the date - risky though - has anyone got the exact Ex Div date?
Re: GOING NOWHERE AGAIN... Rick Mave is obviously deluded, the share price never descended to those levels when he said he bought in. I DID buy in at £1.07 in about 2008. I must admit, I have a huge holding in this share, and I have been involved from when they were first listed - mid 90's, but I sell large tracts from time-to-time as it has a overwhelming influence on my total share portfolio. I have on occasions made spectacular gains and have felt satisfied (or even smug) about that at the time. However, had I had the backbone to stay in there, I would have made HUGE GAINS. I do however think that for a pretty ordinary investor, now is not the time to have a 6 figure investment in this share.
Re: GOING NOWHERE AGAIN... Rick,Comparing CSN to the FTSE over the past 3 years (see below) gives a better perspective. I got in at about £1.70 in 2012 and am happy to hang on in.
GOING NOWHERE AGAIN... Guys,I bought into this share mid-2013 for 180p and it went like a train and behaved really well dropping big divis on the way. However the 12 month chart shows we have gone nowhere this year and it is depressing waiting around.Just a thought.Cheers
Re: Acquisition Dear Bowman, your posts are always carefully researched and well thought out. Many thanks for the latest in an excellent series.
Re: WILL CHESNARA EVER COME BACK? Just had a quick look at CSN in my SIPP. Only up 62% after reaching a high of over 70%, plus a divi of about 5%. Are you looking at the right share?
Re: WILL CHESNARA EVER COME BACK? Come back from where? I am over 40% up plus had excellent dividend return. Just close my eyes and ignore the volatility that goes with the territory here!
Re: Acquisition Bernardhy,I agree that the Directors have a reasonable track record, however, the larger the Company becomes the greater the risk that they will make a mistake. The man behind many of the previous moves has decided to move aside (and to leave the Company) hence the new management may not be as successful. In addition, the timing is worrying, since he may have decided that he did not like the increased risk inherent in the new acquisition. At the moment I am prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt. Potentially the purchase of distressed assets at a discount should give them an adequate margin should their assumptions be a little optimistic, or should the regulators find something untoward. With respect to interest rates, that is an almost impossible question to answer since there are so many variables. It depends on how good the Directors are at rebalancing income and capital gain, and which bonds they choose. Bond yields are only one of many factors; others include premium income (resulting from the strength or weakness of the underlying economies in which CSN operate), foreign exchange movements, investment and property markets performance, and regulatory impacts. I suggest you read pages 28 to 46 of the 2013 Final report for more detail on the overall financial and risk management.[link]
Re: Acquisition This is a company that knows the business it is in. The current move is right in line with the policy of replacing naturally diminishing assets. Given its track record there is no good reason for doubt. Bowman...not sure if you know the answer to a question that greatly affects this company. What net effect will there be from a future rise in interest rates? On the one hand bond prices will fall, and the other income from the bonds will rise over time.
