Goodbye from Colt... Its been long in the bottom draw for me after I sold a chunk back in 2002, before the share consolidation. Now they are delisted, has anyone still kept any...and if so..what might they hope for....?.
Offer comment.. Reading between the lines, I`m guessing that the latest `offer` has been rejected..Recent numbers published seem to suggest that Colt still has plenty to do to put a smile on investors faces. An improved offer, nearer the £3.50p mark might be a start...Any thoughts on the outlook...
Re: Results In your dreams Basil. We're all having a laugh at another share you bought (£50,000 was your last claimed purchase, though I doubt it) which has gone horribly wrong, namely Monitise. Strongly recommended by you at c.80p and now available to buy at a little over 6p in just a few short months. You do know how to pick 'em don't you? Any other strong buy tips for sensible folk to short?
Re: Results I've made a lot of money trading Colt so I'm sad to say goodbye but at least I'll get Tortured Mate of my back. The sad little creature feasts on the misfortunes of others.
Re: Results Having read the circular, there is no prospect of an increased offer, Lightning intend to delist and once they have 95% they will squeeze out the minority under Luxembourg law.We all know that to the right industry buyer Colt is worth a lot more but the 'independent' directors on the Colt board are powerless to do anything to extract a higher offer. It looks very much like a case of taking 190p saying thank you and finding another takeover stock.I am feeling optimistic that we will see a fresh wave of takeovers of UK companies. Growth is slowing, we have some leading companies in sectors such as engineering but order books are thinning out. All in all classic conditions for companies buying growth through acquisition.
Re: Results << FWIW I'd take the money and run - Colt is a dog business. >>Sadly, OG, on this occasion I have to agree with you. Even after this recent offer Im down about 25% on Colt. It has been a very boring share, having halved in value soon after my original investment. So it joins my long list of dog shares which now includes:Lloyds, Barclays, RBS, HSBC, Morrisons, Tesco, Sainsburys, Novae, Premier Foods, RSA + a quite a few more.Oh well ... you win a few you lose a few
Re: Results I`d agree...an offer nearer the £3 mark would not go amiss.
Re: Results I've nothing to say about other posters but over a period of several years I've traded Colt, buying at under 120p and selling when it peaked at 150p. This year I held on and was rewarded. I'm tempted to stick with it because it seems likely that a higher offer will be made.
Re: Results Ironically I think both Orchard Gate and Basil Loftus were right about this share. It was a serial underperformer which had an interesting strategic position in the market and which would eventually be bought by a telecoms giant. It seems that Fidelity want to buy out the minority shareholders at 190p, cut a few costs then sell it on in 2017 for 250p plus to someone like Vodafone.I'll be taking the money on the table. It would be good if the independent directors can nudge the price up to 200p for a recommendation but I'm not too optimistic. As this offer also seems to fall outside the Takeover Code there is a possibility the shares will stay quoted with maybe up to 15% still held by minority shareholders. If that is the case then I could be tempted to buy a few back if the price drifts back to 160p after selling my existing holding at 190p. Fidelity must be pretty certain they can make a profit in 18 months time to go through the hassle of making an offer now.
NEW ARTICLE: Share of the week: Buyers lasso Colt "It's been a long, hard slog for LSE:COLT:Colt's management as they tried to generate tasty profits from crucial restructuring. Their well thought-out recovery plan has only just been given the go-ahead by the board, but fund manager and Colt ..."[link]
Re: Results Haha! Can't get them all right and having called Colt down way back when it was worth a lot more than 190p I feel vindicated but there's no denying shorter term the bulls win this debate.FWIW I'd take the money and run - Colt is a dog business.
Re: Results "It's a great Share this"A tad better now! Let's hope there's some competition.
Re: Results down again
Re: Results Continuing to hold its gains. Lets see a push to 160
Re: Results "It's a great share this."Yes it looks great doesn't it. But only if you're as stupid as Basil.
