Re: Choo reports surge in sales Games,"It looks like Bart wil[l] be fully occupied"Looks as if Anna-Lena and Meribeth aren't impressing Mr Market as replacements for Bart. LKH on the flybridge women,eh?

Re: Choo reports surge in sales LK - It looks like Bart wil be fully occupied trying to pick his way through all the 40 odd brands COTY is buying off Procter & Gamble.Games -- divis will probably be a waiting game at Choo, but if they can double profits again next year by another £16M then I can hang on to this one I guess. If it does me as proud as Supergroup, that'll be OK

Re: Choo reports surge in sales Games,I forgot to mention that there's a second bird who is also filling Bart Becht's size 10 Jimmy Choos .... Meribeth Parker. She looks like another wild party animal but, again, I can't see her spending too much time worrying about the only thing that matters to LKH on the flybridge ... you guessed it - my divis

Re: Choo reports surge in sales Games,Nah, I'll sit this one out, thank'ee very much, m8. Bart Becht has been replaced by some bird called Anna-Lena Kamenetzky. She is quite decorative but looks a bit of a socialite, so not someone with a laser-like focus on the only thing that matters toLKH on the flybridge namely my divis

Choo reports surge in sales [link] to buy back in LK -- they even increases their margins and jumped well into profit. Not bad with all the doom and gloom about.Games-- Time to slip back into those shoes, although I doubt they would be much good on the flybridge.

Re: I'm out! Games,"RB's mob must surely want to see it grow profits and do well in it's stock price appreciation, therefore should be mindful of costs."Yes, but it must surely be better for RB's mob to make 100% of the profit from reaming Jimmy Choo on services, plus their share of a slightly less profitable JC, rather than let someone else provide those services, leaving the RB mob with only their share of a slightly more profitable JC.Whatever, I'm relieved to be out.LKH on the flybridge

Re: I'm out! "Choo for stuff that, normally, would be done by Choo employees. Payroll, treasury, compliance, that sort of boring but important stuff. "Yes, considering the small size of Choo, these services can be bought really cheaply, and shouldn't have agreed to onerous terms from RB.I suppose the other way to look at it, is that as a major shareholder in Choo, RB's mob must surely want to see it grow profits and do well in it's stock price appreciation, therefore should be mindful of costs.Games - If there is such a thing as logic, of course, and does it mask short term greed?

Re: I'm out! Valeite,"what you're looking for is a multi cap unit trust (or investment trust) with a top quartile position over 1/3/5 years"I've got one of those for part of my wad ... Neptune UK Mid Cap (NEMCA). It's done extremely well over all three periods. Not much chit chat on its ii board, mind.LKH on the flybridge

Re: I'm out! Games,""I was also a bit bothered that Choo shareholders might be reamed on central charges by the Benckiser mob whom Bart fronts up for."I hadn't considered this statement - can you elaborate on this"I recall that, in the blurb when Choo floated, there was some guff about the charges that Bart's lads could levy on Choo for stuff that, normally, would be done by Choo employees. Payroll, treasury, compliance, that sort of boring but important stuff. It struck me that, if I owned a private company that owned a chunk of Choo, and that company had a contract that enabled it to charge Choo a lot or a little for whatever services it supplied to Choo, as sure as God made little green apples I would charge a LOT.I expect Bart's lads' attitude was: let Sandra and her lasses focus on sewing the shoes together and we'll handle the boring admin services ... for a handsome fee. That's about the size of it. I could be talking total rowlocks.LKH on the flybridge but you know it makes sense

Re: I'm out! v - I appreciate your suggestion and the idea behind simplifying everything with a trust. However, I made the complete reverse decision and sold all of my trusts and only hold 38 stocks and probably 20 sectors (as some stocks play in the same/similar markets or disciplines). Since doing so I have eliminated all the charges, all the churn costs and all the hidden tracking guys who claim to be active. So far this year I sold 5 stocks which I held for 5 years and bought a few more that I will hold for at least another 5 and a few that I will trade (a very few). Apart from that it's been a case of adding to my existing holdings when the opportunity looks favourable. When I get 25-30 stocks I'll be happier.Games

Re: I'm out! what you're looking for is a multi cap unit trust (or investment trust) with a top quartile position over 1/3/5 years .....but I don't always take my own advice because I confuse good luck with stock picking skills which brings you up short sometimes

Re: I'm out! LK - I can understand wanting to shrink the shrinking wad so to speak, in terms of fewer things to monitor and worry about. I did start to do a good job on that front but have added back quite a few with Choo, RSW, PYPT, NGT and RIO+BLT+RDSB+BG - Fortunately RIO and BLT, BG and RDSB are at the current levels.I'm about 38 holdings right now, having dumped BT,BAE, WMH, MNZS.the way you were well out of Weir - good timing as it happens."I was also a bit bothered that Choo shareholders might be reamed on central charges by the Benckiser mob whom Bart fronts up for."I hadn't considered this statement - can you elaborate on this, as it might colour my judgement if it looks severe. The China thing won't be helping the likes of high value fashion like Choo and others for sure.Still the brokers (ahhhh the brokers!) have it down for 210 target.Still holding -- for now at least.Games

Re: I'm out! Games,I'm sticking with SSE, mainly for sentimental reasons (my granddad built much of the Hydro assets) but also because I feel that the company is genuinely committed to real divi increases and it has got a stonking great yield (yes, I know all about total shareholder return).I've recently bigged up a bit on Smiths. It was only 1% of my wad and now it's 2%. Look at the history of the company on its website. I like investing in iconic companies like that and, with the American jerks on the share register, the GKN feller will, I'm sure, extract a bit of value for all shareholders' benefit.Centrica is long gone from the tiny Hyman portfolio and is unlikely to return. Their upstream stuff is pants and their downstream efforts seem now to revolve around selling punters stuff and services that they don't need and that CNA is unlikely to supply very efficiently.Yup, the miners and oilers are staying. Oilers are 15% of the wad, miners 6%. That seems about right. I wish I'd sold out long ago but now is not the time to bail in my view (could be wrong!).Also keeping all the others you mentioned. I'm more or less fully invested now, though Mrs LKH is insisting on holding back a goodly chunk of klebbies in cash. She's not interested in the mechanics of investment but has an annoying habit of making choices which are often better than mine. It must be a woman thing. As for Bart and Jimmy Choo, I still respect his ability and am sure that he can oversee a shoe company just as well as a company like RB. I sold Choo because I'm trying to tidy up the long tail of shares which only represent a tiny part of my shrunken wad but which I feel obliged to follow merely because I have got a bit of skin in the game. I was also a bit bothered that Choo shareholders might be reamed on central charges by the Benckiser mob whom Bart fronts up for. Objective is to get down to Terry Smith's sweet spot of 16 or 17 uncorrelated shares, but I don't suppose I'll get there. Down to 32 now (including a few funds).LKH on the flybridge

BART LK -- I thought you were a big fan of Bart and his legacy at RB.Or is it that his track record in the fashion businesses is not that great?Games

Re: I'm out! LK - What else are you tidying up on?SSE as per Woody's move?Smiths Industries?Drax you sold Centrica?I trust you are in for the long haul for Commodities and Oil?No doubt you will keep Treatt; RSW and QinetiQDGE and Unilever, National Grid, AZN and GSK are a given yes?Games
