Re: FAO Prefinvestor - Kool Keith Pref,I've set up a monthly share purchase for CGI, think this fund gives my heavily UK based portfolio some diversity no matter how small a diversity it is, it all helps...he say's! Will add a lump sum in due course to beef it up a little. Thanks for highlighting this one for me, I like the fact I can hold this outside my isa and collect income tax free dividends as capital gains isn't a concern, Be very nice if it was.Just done a dummy buy on iii for XLK and looks like it would of gone through on my ISA account, so unsure why you think they can be held in ISA's also found this but not fully read it/know how old it is....[link] you get this before BOE declare their interest decision, what do you think of a rate rise? Personally speaking I don't think .25 would make that much difference but if they do put it up, I would think it'll be this time next year before another increase, probably a reduction in-between. Outside of iii I'm in engineering and it's tough out here, hoping the increase in oil price will help, but how long for......Keep me posted on the etf's if you decide to invest in any please.Good Luck, Good Fortune, Good Hea
Re: FAO Prefinvestor - Kool Keith Hi KK,Still interested in these but waiting to see if £ rises if there is a rate hike tomorrow which might result in a better price. Still 28% discount, if correct, is pretty tasty !.Given up on the tech ETFs as on further investigation I found that you couldnt hold any of them in an ISA. Doh !!ATBPref
Re: FAO Prefinvestor Last one....for now, top 25 holdings, Amazon is No13.[link]
Re: FAO Prefinvestor Just tried a dummy buy for 175 shares.....'Your order could not be met, would you like to route the trade to a dealer? Orders routed to the dealing desk are handled on a fill or kill basis'.Not ready to make a purchase yet, but from what you said over on NG thought I would give it a try.
Re: FAO Prefinvestor 2 trade gone through so far, either yours? I might be tempted need to get some non-uk holdings, question is these might actually be better held outside my isa as capital gains probably won't be an issue for me.Can't see much point in the following as only saving is the commission.CGI's Dividend Reinvestment and Share Purchase Plan. The Plan, administered by the Company's Canadian Transfer Agent, offers common shareholders an efficient method of acquiring additional shares. In addition to reinvestment of dividends, shareholders may purchase additional shares for cash (minimum $100 - maximum $5,000) every quarter. Shareholders in Canada and the U.K. are fully eligible to participate in both the dividend reinvestment and share purchase segments of the Plan, while citizens or residents of the U.S. may participate in only the dividend reinvestment segment of the Plan. Shareholders resident outside Canada, apart from those in the U.K. and the U.S., may also participate in the Plan unless prohibited by law of the country in which they reside. For the Plan, shares are purchased on the open market, with participants paying the average cost while the Company pays all administrative charges, including commissions. The Plan may be used for self-directed RRSPs in Canada. Also, a number of Canadian brokers offer dividend reinvestment plans to CGI shareholders.
FAO Prefinvestor Hi Prefinvestor,Looks like there's no income tax to pay on these dividends, just capital gains if you go over your capital gains allowance, is this correct for UK holders or just Canadian holders?Declares Dividend on Common Shares TORONTO, CANADA -- Canadian General Investments, Limited ("CGI" or "the Company" has declared a quarterly dividend of $0.18 per share payable on December 15, 2017 to common shareholders of record at the close of business on November 30, 2017 ("the Dividend". The Dividend is a capital gains dividend for purposes of the Income Tax Act (Canada). Since CGI qualifies as an investment corporation for Canadian income tax purposes, the payment of capital gains dividends allows the Company to recover taxes paid, or payable, on realized capital gains. Non-residents of Canada will not be subject to Canadian withholding tax on the Dividend. CGI is a closed-end equity fund, focused on medium to long-term investments in primarily Canadian corporations. Its objective is to provide better than average returns to investors through prudent security selection, timely recognition of capital gains/losses and appropriate income generating instruments.
